    FPGA based Identification of Frequency and Phase Modulated Signals by Time Domain Digital Techniques for ELINT Systems

    In this paper, a decision tree algorithm based on time-domain digital technique is developed for the identification and classification of diverse radar intra-pulse modulated signals for the electronic intelligence system in real-time. This includes linear frequency modulation, non-linear frequency modulation, stepped frequency modulation and bi-phase modulation. The received signal is digitised and the instantaneous phase and high accuracy instantaneous frequency are estimated. The instantaneous amplitude is also estimated to get the start and stop of the pulse. Instantaneous parameters are estimated using a moving autocorrelation technique. The proposed algorithm is employed on the instantaneous frequency and the modulation is identified. The modulation type and modulation parameter are important for unique radar identification when similar radars are operating in a dense environment. Simulations are carried out at various SNR conditions and results are presented. The model for algorithm is developed using a system generator and implemented in FPGA. These results are compared when the proposed algorithm is used with the existing digital in-phase and quadrature-phase (DIQ) technique of instantaneous frequency and amplitude estimation

    High Accuracy Parameter Estimation for Advanced Radar Identification of Electronic Intelligence System

    Radar identification is one of the vital operations in an electronic intelligence system. The conventional methods based on basic parameters comparison of unique identification of a radar in a cluster of similar radars, is prone to ambiguities. To meet the current tactical requirements of unique identification of a radar, the methodology needs to be based on better feature extraction, even in low SNR conditions. The paper explores a novel technique based on moving autocorrelation for the extraction of intra-pulse and inter-pulse radar parameters. Extensive simulation and empirical studies have been carried out to establish the approach to extend accurate radar parameters in noisy and low SNR conditions. The technique is found to be promising even in field data conditions.     BIOSORPTION OF HEAVY METALS BY ACCLIMATED MICROBIAL SPECIES, ACINETOBACTER BAUMANNII

    Objective: The biosorption of the heavy metal species was achieved using the microbial biomass of Acinetobacter baumannii isolated from soil and sludge and further used as bioremediating agent in situ.Material and method: The isolated Acinetobacter baumannii was allowed to grow in synthetic media amended with heavy metal solution. The waste samples, both solid and liquid were collected and chemical parameters was checked viz. pH, temperature, BOD, COD, TDS, chloride and calcium. The heavy metals Cd, Cr, Cu, Mn, Pb, and Zn were determined in liquid waste and industrial wastewater, while metals viz. Cr, Co, Mn, Ni and Zn were measured in the leachate form. Result and discussion: The bioremediation of waste was carried out by the biosorption process in a batch process by using the micro-organism, Acinetobacter baumannii. Conclusion: It was found that Acinetobacter baumannii reduced Ni by 56% and Cr by 68%., which leads to the conclusion that microbes can tolerate against the heavy metals due to several resistance and catabolic potentials

    Magnetic Ordering and Superconductivity in the RE2_2Ir3_3Ge5_5 (RE = Y, La-Tm, Lu) System

    We find that the compounds for RE = Y, La-Dy, crystallize in the tetragonal Ibam (U2_2Co3_3Si5_5 type) structure whereas the compounds for RE = Er-Lu, crystallize in a new orthorhombic structure with a space group Pmmn. Samples of Ho2_2Ir3_3Ge5_5 were always found to be multiphase. The compounds for RE = Y to Dy which adopt the Ibam type structure show a metallic resistivity whereas the compounds with RE = Er, Tm and Lu show an anomalous behavior in the resistivity with a semiconducting increase in ρ\rho as we go down in temperature from 300K. Interestingly we had earlier found a positive temperature coefficient of resistivity for the Yb sample in the same temperature range. We will compare this behavior with similar observations in the compounds RE3_3Ru4_4Ge13_{13} and REBiPt. La2_2Ir3_3Ge5_5 and Y2_2Ir3_3Ge5_5 show bulk superconductivity below 1.8K and 2.5K respectively. Our results confirm that Ce2_2Ir3_3Ge5_5 shows a Kondo lattice behavior and undergoes antiferromagnetic ordering below 8.5K. Most of the other compounds containing magnetic rare-earth elements undergo a single antiferromagnetic transition at low temperatures (T\leq12K) while Gd2_2Ir3_3Ge5_5, Dy2_2Ir3_3Ge5_5 and Nd2_2Ir3_3Ge5_5 show multiple transitions. The TN_N's for most of the compounds roughly scale with the de Gennes factor. which suggests that the chief mechanism of interaction leading to the magnetic ordering of the magnetic moments may be the RKKY interaction.Comment: 25 pages, 16 figure

    Unusual Ground State Properties of the Kondo-Lattice Compound Yb2Ir3Ge5

    We report sample preparation, structure, electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility and heat capacity studies of a new compound Yb2_2Ir3_3Ge5_5. We find that this compound crystallizes in an orthorhombic structure with a space group PMMN unlike the compound Ce2_2Ir3_3Ge5_5 which crystallizes in the tetragonal IBAM (U2_2Co3_3Si5_5 type) structure. Our resistivity measurements indicate that the compound Yb2_2Ir3_3Ge5_5 behaves like a typical Kondo lattice system with no ordering down to 0.4 K. However, a Curie-Weiss fit of the inverse magnetic susceptibility above 100 K gives an effective moment of only 3.66 μ\muB_B which is considerably less than the theoretical value of 4.54 μ\muB_B for magnetic Yb3+^3+ ions. The value of θP\theta_{P} = -15.19 K is also considerably higher indicating the presence of strong hybridization. An upturn in the low temperature heat capacity gives an indication that the system may order magnetically just below the lowest temperature of our heat capacity measurements (0.4 K). The structure contains two sites for Yb ions and the present investigation suggests that Yb may be trivalent in one site while it may be significantly lower (close to divalent) in the other.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures. submitted to Phys.     Antiferromagnetic ordering in the Kondo lattice system Yb2_2Fe3_3Si5_5

    Compounds belonging to the R2_2Fe3_3Si5_5 series exhibit unusual superconducting and magnetic properties. Although a number of studies have been made on the first reentrant antiferromagnet superconductor Tm2_2Fe3_3Si5_5, the physical properties of Yb2_2Fe3_3Si5_5 are largely unexplored. In this work, we attempt to provide a comprehensive study of bulk properties such as, resistivity, susceptibility and heat-capacity of a well characterized polycrystalline Yb2_2Fe3_3Si5_5. Our measurements indicate that Yb3+^{3+} moments order antiferromagnetically below 1.7 K. Moreover, the system behaves as a Kondo lattice with large Sommerfeld coefficient (γ\gamma) of 0.5~J/Yb mol K2^{2} at 0.3 K, which is well below TN_N. The absence of superconductivity in Yb2_2Fe3_3Si5_5 down to 0.3 K at ambient pressure is attributed to the presence of the Kondo effect.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures, tex document.     Some anisotropic universes in the presence of imperfect fluid coupling with spatial curvature

    We consider Bianchi VI spacetime, which also can be reduced to Bianchi types VI0-V-III-I. We initially consider the most general form of the energy-momentum tensor which yields anisotropic stress and heat flow. We then derive an energy-momentum tensor that couples with the spatial curvature in a way so as to cancel out the terms that arise due to the spatial curvature in the evolution equations of the Einstein field equations. We obtain exact solutions for the universes indefinetly expanding with constant mean deceleration parameter. The solutions are beriefly discussed for each Bianchi type. The dynamics of the models and fluid are examined briefly, and the models that can approach to isotropy are determined.     A new class of solutions of Einstein field equations has been investigated for inhomogeneous cylindrically symmetric space-time with string source. To get the deterministic solution, it has been assumed that the expansion (θ\theta) in the model is proportional to the eigen value σ11\sigma^{1}_{1} of the shear tensor σji\sigma^{i}_{j}.     Universal interpretations of vocal music

    Despite the variability of music across cultures, some types of human songs share acoustic characteristics. For example, dance songs tend to be loud and rhythmic, and lullabies tend to be quiet and melodious. Human perceptual sensitivity to the behavioral contexts of songs, based on these musical features, suggests that basic properties of music are mutually intelligible, independent of linguistic or cultural content. Whether these effects reflect universal interpretations of vocal music, however, is unclear because prior studies focus almost exclusively on English-speaking participants, a group that is not representative of humans. Here, we report shared intuitions concerning the behavioral contexts of unfamiliar songs produced in unfamiliar languages, in participants living in Internet-connected industrialized societies (n = 5,516 native speakers of 28 languages) or smaller-scale societies with limited access to global media (n = 116 native speakers of three non-English languages). Participants listened to songs randomly selected from a representative sample of human vocal music, originally used in four behavioral contexts, and rated the degree to which they believed the song was used for each context. Listeners in both industrialized and smaller-scale societies inferred the contexts of dance songs, lullabies, and healing songs, but not love songs. Within and across cohorts, inferences were mutually consistent. Further, increased linguistic or geographical proximity between listeners and singers only minimally increased the accuracy of the inferences. These results demonstrate that the behavioral contexts of three common forms of music are mutually intelligible cross-culturally and imply that musical diversity, shaped by cultural evolution, is nonetheless grounded in some universal perceptual phenomena

    Bianchi Type V Viscous Fluid Cosmological Models in Presence of Decaying Vacuum Energy

    Bianchi type V viscous fluid cosmological model for barotropic fluid distribution with varying cosmological term Λ\Lambda is investigated. We have examined a cosmological scenario proposing a variation law for Hubble parameter HH in the background of homogeneous, anisotropic Bianchi type V space-time. The model isotropizes asymptotically and the presence of shear viscosity accelerates the isotropization. The model describes a unified expansion history of the universe indicating initial decelerating expansion and late time accelerating phase.
