    University and College Profiles available on Indian Research Information Network System (IRINS): A Comparative Study

    Indian Research Information Network System (IRINS) is a research information management system that provides details of publications and citations by researchers in academic and research institutes in India. It is an undisputed fact that the productivity of researchers is not uniform within and beyond institutions. A quantitative study was formulated to compare the productivity of researchers within and between categories of central university, state university, deemed university, private university, and college. The coefficient of variation (C.V.) and coefficient of range (C.R.) was measured to know about dispersions among data of publications, patents, Scopus citations, and Crossref citations. It was found that central universities and state universities have a higher number of publications and citations whereas colleges have less number of the same. Private universities have less number of publications, however better than colleges in case of citations. Deemed universities have the highest dispersion within the group. It is suggested to increase subscriptions of quality resources in the colleges and private universities and upgrade library services to enhance the quality and quantity of publications by researchers there

    Expressed Emotion and Social Support in Rehospitalized Psychiatric Patients

    Background: The phenomenon of hospital readmission of the psychiatric patient has been a matter of concern ever since the concepts of deinstitutionalization and community care of these patients have been emphasized. There are pieces of evidence from the literature that the readmission rate has been increasing substantially. The role of psychiatric hospitals has shifted dramatically. Inpatient programs are now focused on acute stabilization, leaving most treatment to communityĀ­ based providers. Aim: Aim of the study is to assess the psychosocial aspects of re-hospitalization of psychiatric patients namely Bipolar Affective Disorder and Schizophrenia and difference between both the groups. Methods: On the basis of purposive sampling 100 re-hospitalized (50 Bipolar Affective Disorder and 50 Schizophrenia) patients were taken from inpatient IMH, Rohtak. The socio-demographic data sheet was filled-up for assessment of socio-cultural aspects, social support questionnaire was administered for the assessment of the level of social support and attitude questionnaire was applied on the caregivers for assessment of the level expressed emotion. Ā Results: Most of the re-hospitalized Schizophrenia patients face a high level of expressed emotion and poor social support in comparison to Bipolar Affective Disorder patients. Conclusion: The findings of the study illustrate that high expressed emotion and poor social support are associated with rehospitalization.     A Mathematical Model of Central Dogma of Molecular Biology employing a Novel Irrational-Integral-Imaginary (i3) Encoding and Numerical Approximation based on Cellular Automaton

    Cellular Automaton (CA) is usually used to model the spatio-temporal evolution of dynamical systems. In this work, a special class of the same known as 'Outer-totalistic' Cellular Automaton is applied to examine if there is a rationale behind the correlation between 64 possible codons and the resulting 20 amino-acids. Also, an attempt is made to mathematically model the central dogma of molecular biology in an intelligible format, including transcription and translation. Results suggest that our irrational-integral-imaginary (i3) encoding approach forms not only a satisfactory basis for a mathematical model of translation of mRNA to protein but also that of transcription from ssDNA (single stranded DNA) to mRNA (messenger RNA)

    Plant Species Classification Using Transfer Learning by Pretrained Classifier VGG-19

    Deep learning is currently the most important branch of machine learning, with applications in speech recognition, computer vision, image classification, and medical imaging analysis. Plant recognition is one of the areas where image classification can be used to identify plant species through their leaves. Botanists devote a significant amount of time to recognizing plant species by personally inspecting. This paper describes a method for dissecting color images of Swedish leaves and identifying plant species. To achieve higher accuracy, the task is completed using transfer learning with the help of pre-trained classifier VGG-19. The four primary processes of classification are image preprocessing, image augmentation, feature extraction, and recognition, which are performed as part of the overall model evaluation. The VGG-19 classifier grasps the characteristics of leaves by employing pre-defined hidden layers such as convolutional layers, max pooling layers, and fully connected layers, and finally uses the soft-max layer to generate a feature representation for all plant classes. The model obtains knowledge connected to aspects of the Swedish leaf dataset, which contains fifteen tree classes, and aids in predicting the proper class of an unknown plant with an accuracy of 99.70% which is higher than previous research works reported.Comment: Under review process in 'IETE Journal of Research

    Study of Dual to Ratio-Cum-Product Estimator of Finite Population Mean under Double Sampling in Sample Surveys

    Abstract A class of estimator based on dual to ratio and dual to product-type estimator in double sampling for estimating finite population mean is proposed. The bias and mean square error of the proposed estimator are obtained in two different cases. A comparative study has been made with usual estimators, dual to ratio estimator, dual to product type estimator in double sampling in two different cases. The proposed estimator is found to be an improvement over the other estimators as special cases

    Chromosome count, meiotic abnormalities and pollen sterility in Lahaul sweetvetch (Hedysarum astragaloides Benth. ex Baker, Fabaceae), an endemic and threatened species from India

    Male meiotic studies were carried out on eight different accessions of Hedysarum astragaloides Benth. ex Baker (Fabaceae), an endemic and threatened species of northwest Himalaya, India. Although genetic factors such as meiosis, chromosome number, and ploidy level may be causative for the evolution, endemism, rare distribution or even extinction of the species, no detailed information exists. Keeping this in mind H. astragaloides has been studied cytologically. Male meiotic investigations revealed diploid level (2n=2x=14) for species and normal meiotic course in the accessions from the Manali Hills resulting in nearly 100% pollen fertility. However, the accessions scored from the Manimahesh Hills and Pangi Valley depicted inter-pollen mother cell transfer of chromatin material and structural heterozygosity for reciprocal translocations. Consequent upon these meiotic anomalies, some pollen sterility (21%) resulted. On account of this sweeping genetic outcome, the incidence of anomalies such as this in an endemic and threatened species warrants grave consideration. It is sensible to conclude that conservation measures should include the collection of germplasm from the localities where plants are meiotically stable with high gametic fertility, to ensure good germination and healthy plants for future use. Seeds from meiotically normal individuals should be given priority for inclusion in seed banks

    Fotokemijska toksičnost lijekova namijenjenih okularnoj uporabi

    The present investigation was undertaken to evaluate the possible ocular phototoxicity of drugs used in ophthalmic formulations. Sulphacetamide, ketoconazole, voriconazole, diclofenac, and ketorolac were assessed in the concentrations available in the market for their ocular use. The suitable models viz Henā€™s Egg Test Chorioallantoic Membrane (HET-CAM) test, Isolated Chicken Eye (ICE) test, and Red Blood Cell (RBC) haemolysis test as recommended by ECVAM, ICCVAM, and OECD guidelines were performed. Results of HET-CAM and ICE tests suggest that sulphacetamide is moderately toxic in the presence of light/UV-A and very slightly irritant without irradiation. Ketoconazole and voriconazole were found slightly irritant in presence of light/UV-A and non-irritant in dark. Diclofenac and ketorolac demonstrated slight irritancy in the light and were found to be non-irritant in dark. The results suggest that some of the drugs have potential toxic effect in the presence of light. The extent of phototoxicity might get extended when used for longer time. The recommendation is that these drugs should be stored and used in the dark for a specified time and be labelled with specific instructions for patients, especially for those working longer in the sunlight.Cilj ovog ispitivanja bio je istražiti moguću okularnu fototoksičnost lijekova koji se koriste u oftalmoloÅ”kim formulacijama. Sulfacetamid, ketokonazol, vorikonazol, diklofenak i ketorolak ispitivani su u koncentracijama koje su dostupne na tržiÅ”tu u njihovom obliku koji je namijenjen za okularnu uporabu. Primijenjeni su testovi iritacije na kokoÅ”jem jajetu (Henā€™s Egg Test Chorioallantoic Membrane - HETCAM), izoliranom kokoÅ”jem oku (Isolated Chicken Eye - ICE) i test hemolize crvenih krvnih stanica (Red Blood Cell - RBC) prema preporukama ECVAM-a, ICCVAM-a i OECD-a. Rezultati HET-CAM i ICE testova upućuju na umjerenu toksičnost sulfacetamida u prisutnosti svjetla/UV-A te vrlo blagu iritaciju u mraku. Ketokonazol i vorikonazol pokazali su blagu iritaciju u prisutnosti svjetla/UV-A te nikakvu iritaciju u mraku. Diklofenak i ketorolak pokazali su blagu iritaciju na svjetlu i nikakvu iritaciju u mraku. Rezultati upućuju na moguću toksičnost nekih od navedenih lijekova u prisutnosti svjetla. Razmjer fototoksičnosti može biti povećan pri produljenoj uporabi lijeka. Preporučuje se čuvati navedene lijekove na zatamnjenome mjestu te ih označiti odgovarajućim uputama za koriÅ”tenje, osobito za osobe koje su dulje vrijeme izložene sunčevoj svjetlosti

    DEVELOPMENT AND IN VITRO EVALUATION OF FAST DISSOLVING TABLETS OF TIZANIDINE HYDROCHLORIDE BY DIRECT COMPRESSION METHOD

    In the present work, fast dissolving tablets (FDTs) have been prepared by direct compression method using Tizanidine hydrochloride as a drug candidate. Tizanidine HCl is a centrally acting ƎĀ±-2 adrenergic agonist muscle relaxant with a slightly bitter taste having short half-life of 2.5 h. The tablets were prepared with three superdisintegrants e.g. sodium starch glycolate, crosscarmellose sodium and crospovidone. Formulations were evaluated for pre compression parameters such as bulk density, tapped density, angle of repose, CarrĆ¢ā‚¬ā„¢s index and HausnerĆ¢ā‚¬ā„¢s ratio. The prepared tablets were also evaluated for hardness, friability, thickness, drug content, disintegration time, wetting time and in-vitro dissolution studies. The compatibility of drug with other ingredients was checked by FTIR studies. In-vitro release is presented by zero order and first order plot. From the point of view of maximum drug release within 20 minutes, formulation TZN8 within 8 formulations is the best and hence optimized one. From this study it was concluded that fast dissolving tablets prepared by direct compression method using different superdisintegrants enhanced dissolution which will lead to improved bioavailability and effectiveness of tizanidine hydrochloride
