    Escherichia coli merupakan flora normal yang terdapat dalam usus.Infeksi Escherichia coli sering kali berupa diare, kram perut, demam, serta muntah.Es kristal adalah es yang berbentuk pipa dan bolong ditengahnya. Es kristal biasanya sering digunakan sebagai bahan pendingin maupun penyegar minuman. Es kristal dapat tercemar oleh bakteri atau mikroorganisme jika tangan pedagang kurang bersih atau wadah penyimpanan dan cara penyajian es kristal yang kurang higienis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui ada tidaknya bakteri Escherichia coli pada es kristal yang diperjualbelikan oleh pedagang di Jalan Kapten Muslim Medan. Jenis penelitian ini adalah deskriptif. Populasi penelitian yaitu seluruh es kristal yang diperjualbelikan oleh pedagang di Jalan Kapten Muslim Medan yang berjumlah 8 sampel. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada bulan Juli sampai Agustus 2017 di Laboratorium Mikrobiologi Universitas Sari Mutiara Indonesia Medan.Sampel diteliti dengan menggunakan metode Most Probable Number (MPN) dengan media Lactosa Broth, Brilliant Green Lactosa Bile Broth (BGLB), Endo Agar dan Imvic. Hasil penelitian dari 8 sampel es kristal yang diperiksa dengan nomor sampel S1 sampai S8 maka didapatkan hasil positif (+) yang tercemar oleh bakteri Escherichia coli yaitu pada sampel S2, S3, S4, S5, S7, S8, sedangkan hasil negatif terdapat pada sampel S1 dan S6. Untuk itu kepada para pedagang agar selalu memperhatikan kebersihan diri, kebersihan lingkungan, kebersihan tempat atau wadah penyimpanan es kristal serta menjaga kebersihan peralatan untuk pengambilan es kristal.  Kata kunci :Escherichia coli, Es kristal, MPN

    Identification of Staphylococcus Aureus in Patients Diabetic Ulcus In Bunda Thamrin Hospital Medan

    Staphylococcus aureus can cause infection that usually presents with characteristic signs of inflammation, necrosis, and abscess formation. Staphylococcus aureus is responsible for 80% of suppurative diseases with the skin surface as its natural habitat. Skin infections and open wounds such as ulcers, burns, and surgical wounds increase the likelihood of bacterial infection and result in systemic infection. Identification of Staphylococcus aureus in diabetic ulcer patients was carried out at the Microbiology Laboratory of Bunda Thamrin Hospital Medan from February to March 2022 with a total sample of 6 people, this study is descriptive Experiment using isolation and identification methods. The results showed that of the 6 samples, 50% of the samples were contaminated with Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, 50% of the samples were contaminated with gram-negative rods. From the results of the study it can be concluded that Staphylococcus aureus is one of the bacteria that causes infection in diabetic ulcer patients.     Kertas merupakan salah satu kebutuhan pokok yang sangat penting bagi manusia. Jumlah kebutuhan kertas setiap tahun terus mengalami peningkatan. Limbah ampas tahu dan limbah kulit pisang kepok merupakan limbah yang cukup banyak ada di Indonesia. ampas tahu mengandung kadar selulosa 30,4%,sedangkan kulit pisang kepok memiliki kandungan selulosa yang tinggi (60-65%), hemiselulosa 6-8%, dan lignin 5-10%.  Tujuan pengabdian masyarakat ini untuk memberikan informasi dan meningkatkan pengetahuan mengenai pemanfaatan limbah ampas tahu dan limbah kulit pisang kepok menjadi kertas ramah lingkungan. Kegiatan ini dilakukan karena masih banyak  masyarakat yang belum memahami manfaat dari limbah ampas tahu dan limbah kulit pisang kepok menjadi kertas ramah lingkungan. Hasil kegiatan pelaksanaan program pengabdian masyarakat, memahami limbah ampas tahu dan limbah kulit pisang kepok menjadi kertas ramah lingkungan sehingga limbah tersebut dapat bernilai. Kesimpulan bahwa penyuluhan terlaksana sesuai pelaksanaan dan rencana, mendapat  sambutan yang baik oleh masyarakat Kelurahan Timbang Langkat Kecamatan Binjai Timur, Sumatera Utara, peserta mendapatkan informasi serta pengetahuan dan menerapkan informasi tersebut bagi keluarga dan masyarakat

    Obat tradisional adalah bahan atau ramuan bahan yang berupa bahan tumbuhan, bahan hewan, bahan mineral, sediaan sarian (galenik) atau campuran dari bahan tersebut yang secara turun temurun telah digunakan. Jamu merupakan sebagai obat tradisonal, pada umumnya jamu tidak dapat menyembuhkan segala macam penyakit dan efek kerjanya almiah tidak secepat obat kimia. Akhir-akhir ini sering ditambahkan bahan kimia obat yang dilarang berdasarkan ketentuan BPOM (Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan). Antalgin merupakan obat analgetik-antipiretik dan antiinflamasi. Tujuan pengabdian masyarakat ini untuk memberikan penyuluhan dan informasi kandungan yang terdapat dalam jamu antalgin dalam mengatasi pegal linu. Hasil kegiatan pelaksanaan program pengabdian masyarakat kandungan yang terdapat dalam jamu antalgin dalam mengatasi pegal linu. Banyak faktor yang mendasari penggunaan jamu seperti resiko efek samping yang kecil dan biaya yang relatif murah. Melihat cukup besarnya permintaan masyarakat akan jamu, banyak produsen yang memanfaatkan kesempatan ini dengan memproduksi berbagai macam produk unggulan mereka. Kesimpulan bahwa penyuluhan terlaksana sesuai pelaksanaan dan rencana, mendapat  sambutan yang baik dari pemerintah setempat Kelurahan Tualang, Kecamatan Perbaungan, Kabupaten Serdang Bedagai, Sumatra Utara, masyarakat sekitar mendapatkan informasi serta pengetahuan dan menerapkan informasi tersebut bagi keluarga dan masyarakat lainnya

    Antioxidants are chemical compounds that can donate one or more electrons (electron donors) to free radicals to inhibit oxidative reactions. One example that has the potential as an antioxidant is yogurt. Yogurt is a food that contains a number of live bacteria that have a beneficial effect on health because it has antioxidant, antimicrobial, antidiarrheal activity and can boost the immune system. There are several factors that can affect the antioxidant activity of yogurt including temperature, storage conditions, and additional ingredients used such as adding fruit flavors. The purpose of this study was to determine the antioxidant activity of probiotics from yogurt drinks with various brands. Samples were taken from supermarkets in Medan City with 3 different brands coded A, B, and C. The antioxidant activity was determined by the DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) method using a visible spectrophotometer measured at wavelengths. 516 nm. The results showed that there were two samples of yogurt drink coded A and B which were included in the strong category and code C samples were included in the weak category. Yogurt drink with brand code A has the strongest antioxidant activity compared to other brand yogurt drinks (B and C) with IC50 values from samples code A (80.52 ml), B (90.14 ml), and C (194, 81 ml)

    Breast milk (ASI) is the best food for babies. Breast milk has advantages compared to other milk, including guaranteed cleanliness, the composition of breast milk is also very suitable for digestion, growth, and development of babies, one of the compositions contained in breast milk is protein. Currently, many mothers cannot breastfeed their own babies, so they choose infant formula as a substitute for breast milk. The purpose of this study was to determine differences in protein levels in infant formula and breast milk. Determination of protein content was carried out using the Kjeldahl method which is a simple method for determining total nitrogen in protein and other nitrogen-containing compounds. The Kjeldahl method is carried out through 3 processes, namely: the destruction process, the distillation process, and the titration process according to the procedures and tools used in the Chemistry Laboratory of the Sari Mutiara Indonesia University. The results of the determination of protein levels using the Kjeldahl method contained a protein with average levels in infant formula brand A (10.10 -+ 0.96) %, infant formula brand B (10.95 -+ 2.43) %, infant formula brand C (11.0666 -+ 1.6932) %, and breast milk (20.5733 -+ 3.1828) %

    Traditional medicine is an ingredient or ingredient in the form of plant material, animal material, mineral material, preparation of extracts (galenic), or a mixture of these materials which have been used for generations. Jamu is traditional medicine, in general, herbal medicine cannot cure all kinds of diseases and its natural effect is not as fast as chemical drugs. Lately, medicinal chemicals are often added which are prohibited under the provisions of BPOM (Food and Drug Supervisory Agency). Antalgin is an analgesic-antipyretic and anti-inflammatory drug. Identification of antalgin in herbal aches and pains by thin layer chromatography aims to determine whether the herbal aches and pains circulating around Jalan Captain Muslim, Medan city contain levorphanoll drug chemicals or not. Antalgin identification in herbal pain relief was applied using Thin Layer Chromatography method with 60 F Silica gel stationary phase and chloroform-acetone-toluene (65: 25:10) mobile phase. From the results of identification by thin-layer chromatography (TLC) on herbal pain relief, it was found that the Rf value of the chromatogram spot on the levorphanol 0.16 reference standard was close to the sample Rf value (E) of 0.12. Based on the examination that has been carried out, it can be concluded that the positive herbal pain relief contains levorphanol drug chemicals so that the sample (E) tested does not meet the requirements

    The availability of clean water is decreasing along with the development of dense population growth. Many households choose Refill Drinking Water as an alternative because the price is relatively cheap. However, no one can guarantee the pathogenic bacteria contained in Refill Drinking Water. This study aims to determine the presence of Escherichia coli bacteria in refill drinking water in Kualasimpang City. This type of research is descriptive with an observational approach. The population in this study were all Refill Drinking Water Depots (DAMIU) in Kualasimpang City in 2018, totaling 21 Refill Drinking Water Depots (DAMIU). The research sample was distributed gallon water, this sample was taken from 5 Refill Drinking Depots which were selected using the Random Sampling method. The results of the study did not show the presence of Escherichia coli bacteria in refilled drinking water but only Coliform pathogenic bacteria. The quality of the water means that it is in accordance with the standards of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia No.492/MENKES/PER/IV/2010 concerning the requirements for the quality of drinking water, where drinking water must not contain bacteria in it
