    Measurement of e+eγχcJe^+e^- \to \gamma\chi_{cJ} via initial state radiation at Belle

    Full text link
    The process e+eγχcJe^+e^- \to \gamma\chi_{cJ} (JJ=1, 2) is studied via initial state radiation using 980 fb1^{-1} of data at and around the Υ(nS)\Upsilon(nS) (nn=1, 2, 3, 4, 5) resonances collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ee^+e^- collider. No significant signal is observed except from ψ(2S)\psi(2S) decays. Upper limits on the cross sections between s=3.80\sqrt{s}=3.80 and 5.56 GeV5.56~{\rm GeV} are determined at the 90% credibility level, which range from few pb to a few tens of pb. We also set upper limits on the decay rate of the vector charmonium [ψ(4040\psi(4040), ψ(4160)\psi(4160), and ψ(4415)\psi(4415)] and charmoniumlike [Y(4260)Y(4260), Y(4360)Y(4360), and Y(4660)Y(4660)] states to γχcJ\gamma\chi_{cJ}.Comment: Accepted by PR

    Inclusive cross sections for pairs of identified light charged hadrons and for single protons in e+ee^+e^- at s=\sqrt{s}= 10.58 GeV

    We report the first double differential cross sections of two charged pions and kaons (e+ehhXe^+e^- \rightarrow hhX) in electron-positron annihilation as a function of the fractional energies of the two hadrons for any charge and hadron combination. The dependence of these di-hadron cross sections on the topology (same, opposite-hemisphere or anywhere) is also studied with the help of the event shape variable thrust and its axis. The ratios of these di-hadron cross sections for different charges and hadron combinations directly shed light on the contributing fragmentation functions. For example, we find that the ratio of same-sign pion pairs over opposite-sign pion pairs drops toward higher fractional energies where disfavored fragmentation is expected to be suppressed. These di-hadron results are obtained from a 655fb1655\,{\rm fb}^{-1} data sample collected near the Υ(4S)\Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ee^+ e^- collider. Extending the previously published single-pion and single-kaon cross sections, single-proton (e+epXe^+e^- \rightarrow pX) cross sections are extracted from a 159fb1159\,{\rm fb}^{-1} data sub-sample.Comment: submitted to PR

    We present a search for a non-Standard-Model invisible particle X0X^0 in the mass range 0.1-1.8GeV/c20.1\textrm{-}1.8 \,{\rm GeV}/{c^2} in B+e+X0B^{+}\to e^{+} X^{0} and B+μ+X0B^{+}\to \mu^{+} X^{0} decays. The results are obtained from a 711 fb1711~{\rm fb}^{-1} data sample that corresponds to 772×106BBˉ772 \times 10^{6} B\bar{B} pairs, collected at the Υ(4S)\Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+ee^+ e^- collider. One BB meson is fully reconstructed in a hadronic mode to determine the momentum of the lepton of the signal decay in the rest frame of the recoiling partner BB meson. We find no evidence of a signal and set upper limits on the order of 10610^{-6}.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures, 3 table

    Evidence of Υ(1S)J/ψ+χc1\Upsilon(1S) \to J/\psi+\chi_{c1} and search for double-charmonium production in Υ(1S)\Upsilon(1S) and Υ(2S)\Upsilon(2S) decays

    Using data samples of 102×106102\times10^6 Υ(1S)\Upsilon(1S) and 158×106158\times10^6 Υ(2S)\Upsilon(2S) events collected with the Belle detector, a first experimental search has been made for double-charmonium production in the exclusive decays Υ(1S,2S)J/ψ(ψ)+X\Upsilon(1S,2S)\rightarrow J/\psi(\psi')+X, where X=ηcX=\eta_c, χcJ(J= 0, 1, 2)\chi_{cJ} (J=~0,~1,~2), ηc(2S)\eta_c(2S), X(3940)X(3940), and X(4160)X(4160). No significant signal is observed in the spectra of the mass recoiling against the reconstructed J/ψJ/\psi or ψ\psi' except for the evidence of χc1\chi_{c1} production with a significance of 4.6σ4.6\sigma for Υ(1S)J/ψ+χc1\Upsilon(1S)\rightarrow J/\psi+\chi_{c1}. The measured branching fraction \BR(\Upsilon(1S)\rightarrow J/\psi+\chi_{c1}) is (3.90±1.21(stat.)±0.23(syst.))×106(3.90\pm1.21(\rm stat.)\pm0.23 (\rm syst.))\times10^{-6}. The 90%90\% confidence level upper limits on the branching fractions of the other modes having a significance of less than 3σ3\sigma are determined. These results are consistent with theoretical calculations using the nonrelativistic QCD factorization approach.Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures, 1 table. The fit range was extended to include X(4160) signal according to referee's suggestions. Other results unchanged. Paper was accepted for publication as a regular article in Physical Review

    Measurements of the Υ(10860)\Upsilon(10860) and Υ(11020)\Upsilon(11020) resonances via σ(e+eΥ(nS)π+π)\sigma(e^+e^-\rightarrow\Upsilon(n{\rm S})\pi^+\pi^-)

    We report new measurements of the total cross sections for e+eΥ(nS)π+πe^+e^-\to \Upsilon(n{\rm S})\pi^+\pi^- (nn = 1, 2, 3) and e+ebbˉe^+e^-\to b\bar b from a high-luminosity fine scan of the region s=10.63\sqrt{s} = 10.63-11.0511.05 GeV with the Belle detector. We observe that the Υ(nS)π+π\Upsilon(n{\rm S})\pi^+\pi^- spectra have little or no non-resonant component and extract from them the masses and widths of Υ(10860)\Upsilon(10860) and Υ(11020)\Upsilon(11020) and their relative phase. We find M10860=(10891.1±3.21.7+0.6)M_{10860}=(10891.1\pm3.2^{+0.6}_{-1.7}) MeV/c2c^2 and \Gamma_{10860}=(53.7^{+7.1}_{-5.6}\,^{+1.3}_{-5.4}) MeV and report first measurements M_{11020}=(10987.5^{+6.4}_{-2.5}\,^{+9.0}_{-2.1}) MeV/c2c^2, \Gamma_{11020}=(61^{+9}_{-19}\,^{+2}_{-20}) MeV, and \phi_{\rm 11020}-\phi_{\rm 10860} = (-1.0\pm0.4\,^{+1.4}_{-0.1}) rad.Comment: University of Cincinnati preprint UCHEP-15-01, submitted to Physical Review D - Rapid Communication

    Study of π0\pi^0 pair production in single-tag two-photon collisions

    Full text link
    We report a measurement of the differential cross section of π0\pi^0 pair production in single-tag two-photon collisions, γγπ0π0\gamma^* \gamma \to \pi^0 \pi^0, in e+ee^+ e^- scattering. The cross section is measured for Q2Q^2 up to 30 GeV2^2, where Q2Q^2 is the negative of the invariant mass squared of the tagged photon, in the kinematic range 0.5 GeV < W < 2.1 GeV and cosθ|\cos \theta^*| < 1.0 for the total energy and pion scattering angle, respectively, in the γγ\gamma^* \gamma center-of-mass system. The results are based on a data sample of 759 fb1^{-1} collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ee^+ e^- collider. The transition form factor of the f0(980)f_0(980) and that of the f2(1270)f_2(1270) with the helicity-0, -1, and -2 components separately are measured for the first time and are compared with theoretical calculations.Comment: 36 pages, 37 figures, 11 tables, Belle Preprint 2015-15, KEK Preprint 2015-2

    Invariant-mass and fractional-energy dependence of inclusive production of di-hadrons in e+ee^+e^- annihilation at s=\sqrt{s}= 10.58 GeV

    Full text link
    The inclusive cross sections for di-hadrons of charged pions and kaons (e+ehhXe^+e^- \rightarrow hhX) in electron-positron annihilation are reported. They are obtained as a function of the total fractional energy and invariant mass for any di-hadron combination in the same hemisphere as defined by the thrust event-shape variable and its axis. Since same-hemisphere di-hadrons can be assumed to originate predominantly from the same initial parton, di-hadron fragmentation functions are probed. These di-hadron fragmentation functions are needed as an unpolarized baseline in order to quantitatively understand related spin-dependent measurements in other processes and to apply them to the extraction of quark transversity distribution functions in the nucleon. The di-hadron cross sections are obtained from a 655fb1655\,{\rm fb}^{-1} data sample collected at or near the Υ(4S)\Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ee^+ e^- collider.Comment: 21 pages, 18 figures plus 25 figures in supplemental material, submitted to PR

    We report the analysis of the three-body e+e- => B B-bar pi, B B*-bar pi, and B* B*-bar pi processes, including the first observation of the Zb+-(10610) =>[B B*-bar+c.c.]+- and Zb+-(10650) => [B*B*-bar]+- transitions. We measure visible cross sections for the three-body production of sigma_vis(e+e- => [B B*-bar+c.c.]+-pi-+=(11.2+-1.0(stat.)+-1.2(syst.)) pb and sigma_vis(e+e- => [B*B*-bar]+-pi-+)=(5.61+-0.73(stat.)+-0.66(syst.)) pb and set a 90% C.L. upper limit of sigma_vis(e+e- => [BB-bar]+-pi-+)<2.1 pb. The results are based on a 121.4 1/fb data sample collected with the Belle detector at a center-of-mass energy near the Y(5S) peak.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figure

    Observation of a new charged charmoniumlike state in B -> J/psi K pi decays

    Full text link
    We present the results of an amplitude analysis of anti-B0 -> J/psi K- pi+ decays. A new charged charmoniumlike state Zc(4200)+ decaying to J/psi pi+ is observed with a significance of 6.2 sigma. The mass and width of the Zc(4200)+ are 4196 +31-29 +17-13 MeV/c^2 and 370 +70-70 +70-132 MeV, respectively; the preferred assignment of the quantum numbers is J^P = 1^+. In addition, we find evidence for Zc(4430)+ -> J/psi pi+. The analysis is based on a 711 fb^-1 data sample collected by the Belle detector at the asymmetric-energy e+ e- collider KEKB.Comment: 14 pages, 13 figure
