Open Access and Institutional Repositories in Bulgaria

    Get PDF
The paper presents the current situation regarding open access, institutional repositories (IRs) and journals in Bulgaria. It focuses on e- publications and related research content available in digital format on the web. It includes development of IRs in Bulgaria and discusses their content, software and various access restrictions that apply to content. A survey is used to identify current state of open access for IR and e-journals not just those that are using OAI-PMH

Survey of Existing Services in the Mathematical Digital Libraries and Repositories in the EuDML Project

    Get PDF
This paper presents a survey of the existing services provided by the digital libraries and repositories on mathematics of the content provider partners in the EuDML project. The purpose is to support the development of the concepts, criteria and methods for the continuous evaluation of these and new relevant existing services. The work was concentrated on the classification of the relevant services in order to specify a common evaluating structure

Advanced spectrophotometric chemometric methods for resolving the binary mixture of doxylamine succinate and pyridoxine hydrochloride

The prediction power of partial least squares (PLS) and multivariate curve resolution-alternating least squares (MCR-ALS) methods have been studied for simultaneous quantitative analysis of the binary drug combination – doxylamine succinate and pyridoxine hydrochloride. Analysis of first-order UV overlapped spectra was performed using different PLS models – classical PLS1 and PLS2 as well as partial robust M-regression (PRM). These linear models were compared to MCR-ALS with equality and correlation constraints (MCR-ALS-CC). All techniques operated within the full spectral region and extracted maximum information for the drugs analysed. The developed chemometric methods were validated on external sample sets and were applied to the analyses of pharmaceutical formulations. The obtained statistical parameters were satisfactory for calibration and validation sets. All developed methods can be successfully applied for simultaneous spectrophotometric determination of doxylamine and pyridoxine both in laboratory-prepared mixtures and commercial dosage forms

Bioactive glass in the treatment of infected pseudoarthrosis of the distal tibia in a thirty five years old man. Case report

Among the most serious complications of modern osteosyntheses are nonunion and infections. The pathology is challenging even for experienced surgeons, and the treatment often ends in failure. Bioactive glass represents an attractive alternative to conventional methods, as it combines a unique chemical formula (53% SiO2, 23% Na2O, 20% CaO and 4% P2O) that is osteoinductive and increases the local pH as well as the osmotic pressure, which leads to its antibacterial effect. Herein, we present a clinical case of a 35-year-old man with infected pseudarthrosis of the distal tibia treated with bioactive glass. The excellent clinical and radiological results at the 6-month follow-up and positive data from the literature lead us to be optimistic about the treatment of these severe conditions

Medium-term results after partial (unicompartmental) knee arthroplasty with a mobile platform

    Get PDF
Background: Early gonarthrosis is characterized by involvement of one compartment of the knee joint, most commonly the medial tibio-femoral joint (AMOA). Surgical treatment includes debridement, chondroplasty, corrective osteotomy, unicondylar knee arthroplasty (UKA), or total joint replacement (TKE). Materials and results: The aim of the study is a retrospective analysis of the clinical results after UKA from a cohort of patients operated at the Clinic of Orthopedics and Traumatology, University Hospital "Queen Joanna - ISUL", Medical University Sofia. Patients in the cohort reported a excellent functional outcome, with the exception of two of the participants in the study. Conclusion: UKA is a suitable surgical alternative for teams that have experience with the technique. Careful consideration of the preoperative parameters of patients, as well as creating acceptable and realistic expectations about the postoperative results are crucial for a positive end result
