Types and Abundance of Phytoplankton of the Boko-Boko Peat Swamp in the Langgam Village, Langgam District, Pelalawan Regency, Riau Province

The area around the Boko-Boko peat swamp has been used for palm plantation. Remains of fertilizer and pestiside used in the plantation may enter the water and decrease the water quality of the swamp and thus reduce the water quality in general. To understand the type and abundance of phytoplankton in the Boko-Boko peat swamp's waters, a research was conducted in March 2016. There were three sampling stations namely Station 1, Station 2, and Station 3. Samplings were conducted 3 times, once/week. Results shown that there are 18 species of phytoplankton present in the peat swamp. They were classified into four classes, namely: Bacillariophyceae (6 species), Chloropyhceae (1 species), Cyanophyceae (5 species) and Xanthophycea (3 Species). The average of phytoplankton abundance was around 10,948 – 18,186 cells/L, species diversity index (H') was 2.082 -2.424, index equatibility (E) was 0.81 – 0.86 and dominance index (C) was 0.218 – 0.288. While the water quality parameters were as follows: temperature 30.1 – 30.4 0C, transparency 48.6 - 60 cm, depth 148.3 – 180 cm, pH 5, CO2 : 7.32 – 9.99 mg/L, DO : 2.54 – 3.26 mg/L, nitrate : 0.4444 – 0.6436 mg/L and phosphate : 0.7779 – 0.123 mg/L. Based on the abundance of pyhtoplankton, it can be concluded that the peat swamp Boko - Boko can be categorized as mesotropic

As a basis to determine the trophic status of the waters. A research aims tounderstand the trophic status of the waters of the Bandar Kayangan Lembah Sarireservoir was conducted in Mach-April 2016.There were 4 stations, namely St 1 (in theinlet from Ambang River), St 2 (in the inlet from Merbau River), St3 (in the middle ofthe lake) and St 4 (in the dam). Samplings were conducted 3 times, once/ week. Watersamples were taken from the water surface. Results shown that nitrate concentration was ranged from 0.075 – 0.096 mg/L,phosphate from 0.208 – 0.293 mg/L, temperature 31-32Β°C, transparency 56.8 – 60.2 cm,depth 219.3 – 378.7 cm, velocity0.25 – 0.40 cm/s, pH was4, dissolved oxygen (DO)5.38 – 8.31mg/L. Based on nitrate concentration, the trophic status of the BandarKayangan Lembah Sari reservoir was categorized as oligotrophic, whereas based onphosphate concentration, it can be categorized as eutrophic

Salo River is one of the Kampar River's tributaries. Several activities conducted along the river produced pollutant that affects the water quality of the river in general. A research aims to understand the water condition in the Salo River based on physical-chemical parameters was conducted from April to May 2015. There were three stations (St1, St2 and St3) and water samples were taken once/week for a 4 weeks period. Water quality parameters measured were current speed, depths, temperature, transparency, turbidity, pH, DO , CO2, BOD5, nitrate and phosphate content. Results shown that the current speed was 17.5-38 cm/second, depths 29-36.3 cm, temperature 28-28.5 ΒΊC, turbidity 3.34-5.36 FTU, pH 5, DO 6.89- 8.23 mg/L, CO2 7.99-8.99 mg/L, BOD5 2.39-7.29 mg/L, nitrate : 0.0275-0.0555 mg/L, and phosphate 0.0375-0.0525 mg/L. Nitrate and phosphate concentration indicate that the Salo River is in oligotrophic condition

Phosphate Concentration From the Water Around the Floating Cage Fish Culture Area and From the Area with No Cage, in the DAM Site of the Koto Panjang Reservoir

In floating cage fish culture activities, degradation of feed remain and fish feces willincrease the Phosphate content in the surrounding area. A research aims to understand thePhosphate concentration in the water from the cage area and from the area that has no cage hasbeen done from July - November 2014. There were 3 stations, namely 200 m upstream nof thecage area (S1), in the cage area (S2) and 200 m downstream of the cage area (S3). Samplingswere conducted in the DAM site 4 times, once/2 weeks. In each station, water samples werecollected from 3 different depth, surface; 2 secchi and 4 secchi depths. Parameters measuredwere pH, Phosphate concentration, Dissolved Oxygen, transparancy, temperature and depth. Results shown that the concentration of Phosphate in the S1was 0.03 mg/L – 0.13 mg/L; in theS2 was 0.13 mg/L – 0.35 mg/L; and in the S3 was 0.07 mg/L – 0.22 mg/L. The highestconcentration of the Phosphate was in S2, while the lowest was in the upstream (S1). Phosphateconcentration indicates that the DAM site area of the Koto Panjang can be classified aseutrophic, especially in the area around the cage. Other water quality parameter measured weretemperature: 30.6oC – 31oC; transparancy 1.98 m – 2.55 m; depth 27 m – 40 m; pH 5 and freeCO2: 4.66 mg/L- 15.31 mg/L. the values of water quality parameters indicate that the waterquality in the DAM site of the Koto Panjang is good and might be able to support the life ofaquatic organisms in thet area

This research has been done in Pinang Luar Oxbow Lake from Mei-Juni2013. This research aims to understand the vertical profile of nitrate andorthophosphate in Pinang Luar oxbow lake. The research used survey method.Sample were taken in three stations, namely station 1, station 2 and station 3.Sampling vertical based on depth, at surface, 1,5 secchi disk, 2,5 secchi disk, andin the bottom. The parameters of water quality measured nitrate, orthophosphate, temperature, brightness, depth, current, pH, and dissolved oxygen (DO). Theresult shown concentration of nitrate range of 0,030 - 0,123 mg/l, and theconcentration of orthophosphate range of 0,013 – 0,040 mg/l. The value oftemperature is 310C, transparency range of 65 – 70 cm, depth range of 261,7 –461,7 cm, current range of 2,57 -3,24 cm/second. The concentration of dissolvedoxygen (DO) range of 1,87 – 6,4 mg/l. The value of pH is 6. The vertical profileof nitrate and orthophosphate showed increased with the increment of depth. Theparameters of water quality were observed still support the aquatic organisms

Samsam swamp is located in the peat soil area and flooded during rainy season. To understand the water quality of the swamp, a research has been conducted from Maret-April 2016. There were four sampling sites, namely S1 is in the upstream (almost no human activity); S2 (around palm plantation), S3 (around the newly planted palm plantation) and S4 (far from palm plantation). Water samples were taken once/week for a 3 weeks period.Water quality parameters measured were depths, temperature, transparency, pH, DO, CO2, nitrate and phosphate. Results shown that depths was 39-170 cm, temperature: 28-32 oC, pH : 4-5, DO :3.96-4.93 mg/L, CO2: 4-11,99 mg/L, nitrate : 0.33-0.63 mg/L, and phosphate 0.37-0.65 mg/L. Nitrate concentration indicate that the Samsam peat swamp was categorized as mesotrophic-eutrophic, and phosphate concentration indicate that the Samsam peat swamp is hypertrophic
