Scale insects (Hemiptera: Coccoidea) of ornamental plants from Sao Carlos, Sao Paulo, Brazil
A list of 35 scale insects collected from 72 ornamental plant species in Sao Carlos, Sao Paulo, Brazil is provided. Regarding host specificity, 30 scale insects were polyphagous, 4 oligophagous, and 1 monophagous. A total of 102 coccoid/plant associations are recorded, 29 of which are new host records for the species; 60 are new host records for the species in Brazil. Pulvinaria urbicola Cockerell, 1893 (Coccidae), Phenacoccus similis Granara de Willink, 1983 (Pseudococcidae), and Orthezia molinarii (Morrison, 1952) (Ortheziidae) are recorded for the first time in Brazil. In addition, we describe the injury caused by scale insects on ornamental plants
Logarithmic behavior of degradation dynamics in metal--oxide semiconductor devices
In this paper the authors describe a theoretical simple statistical modelling
of relaxation process in metal-oxide semiconductor devices that governs its
degradation. Basically, starting from an initial state where a given number of
traps are occupied, the dynamics of the relaxation process is measured
calculating the density of occupied traps and its fluctuations (second moment)
as function of time. Our theoretical results show a universal logarithmic law
for the density of occupied traps , i.e., the degradation is logarithmic and its amplitude depends on the
temperature and Fermi Level of device. Our approach reduces the work to the
averages determined by simple binomial sums that are corroborated by our Monte
Carlo simulations and by experimental results from literature, which bear in
mind enlightening elucidations about the physics of degradation of
semiconductor devices of our modern life
How can one probe Podolsky Electrodynamics?
We investigate the possibility of detecting the Podolsky generalized
electrodynamics constant . First we analyze an ion interferometry apparatus
proposed by B. Neyenhuis, et al (Phys. Rev. Lett. 99, (2007) 200401) who looked
for deviations from Coulomb's inverse-square law in the context of Proca model.
Our results show that this experiment has not enough precision for measurements
of . In order to set up bounds for we investigate the influence of
Podolsky's electrostatic potential on the ground state of the Hydrogen atom.
The value of the ground state energy of the Hydrogen atom requires Podolsky's
constant to be smaller than 5.6 fm, or in energy scales larger than 35.51 MeV.Comment: 12 pages, 2 figure
