On the rotation of ONC stars in the Tsallis formalism context
The theoretical distribution function of the projected rotational velocity is
derived in the context of the Tsallis formalism. The distribution is used to
estimate the average for a stellar sample from the Orion Nebula Cloud
(ONC), producing an excellent result when compared with observational data. In
addition, the value of the parameter q obtained from the distribution of
observed rotations reinforces the idea that there is a relation between this
parameter and the age of the cluster.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figure
Magnetic quantum phase transitions of the antiferromagnetic J_{1}-J_{2} Heisenberg model
We obtain the complete phase diagram of the antiferromagnetic -
model, , within the framework of the
nonlinear sigma model. We find two magnetically ordered phases, one with N\'
eel order, for , and another with collinear order, for
, separated by a nonmagnetic region, for , where a gapped spin liquid is found. The transition at is of
the second order while the one at is of the first order and the
spin gaps cross at . Our results are exact at
and agree with numerical results from different methods.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure
A Time-Periodic Lyapunov Approach for Motion Planning of Controllable Driftless Systems on SU(n)
For a right-invariant and controllable driftless system on SU(n), we consider
a time-periodic reference trajectory along which the linearized control system
generates su(n): such trajectories always exist and constitute the basic
ingredient of Coron's Return Method. The open-loop controls that we propose,
which rely on a left-invariant tracking error dynamics and on a fidelity-like
Lyapunov function, are determined from a finite number of left-translations of
the tracking error and they assure global asymptotic convergence towards the
periodic reference trajectory. The role of these translations is to avoid being
trapped in the critical region of this Lyapunov-like function. The convergence
proof relies on a periodic version of LaSalle's invariance principle and the
control values are determined by numerical integration of the dynamics of the
system. Simulations illustrate the obtained controls for and the
generation of the C--NOT quantum gate.Comment: Submitte
Strong evidences for a nonextensive behavior of the rotation period in Open Clusters
Time-dependent nonextensivity in a stellar astrophysical scenario combines
nonextensive entropic indices derived from the modified Kawaler's
parametrization, and , obtained from rotational velocity distribution. These
's are related through a heuristic single relation given by , where is the cluster age. In a nonextensive
scenario, these indices are quantities that measure the degree of
nonextensivity present in the system. Recent studies reveal that the index
is correlated to the formation rate of high-energy tails present in the
distribution of rotation velocity. On the other hand, the index is
determined by the stellar rotation-age relationship. This depends on the
magnetic field configuration through the expression , where
and denote the saturation level of the star magnetic field and its
topology, respectively. In the present study, we show that the connection
is also consistent with 548 rotation period data for single
main-sequence stars in 11 Open Clusters aged less than 1 Gyr. The value of
2.5 from our unsaturated model shows that the mean magnetic field
topology of these stars is slightly more complex than a purely radial field.
Our results also suggest that stellar rotational braking behavior affects the
degree of anti-correlation between and cluster age . Finally, we suggest
that stellar magnetic braking can be scaled by the entropic index .Comment: 6 pages and 2 figures, accepted to EPL on October 17, 201
Quasi-homologous spherically symmetric branes and their symmetry breaking
We revisit the dynamical system based approach of spherically symmetric
vacuum braneworlds, pointing out and studying the existence of a transcritical
bifurcation as the dark pressure parameter changes its sign, we analyze some
consequences of not discard the brane cosmological constant. For instance, it
is noteworthy that the existence of an isothermal state equation between the
dark fluid parameters cannot be obtained via the requirement of a
quasi-homologous symmetry of the vacuum.Comment: 20 pages, 12 figures. To appear in EPJ
Displaying desire and distinction in housing
The article discusses the significance of cultural capital for the understanding of the field of housing in contemporary Britain. It explores the relationship between housing and the position of individuals in social space mapped out by means of a multiple correspondence analysis. It considers the material aspects of housing and the changing contexts that are linked to the creation and display of desire for social position and distinction expressed in talk about home decoration as personal expression and individuals' ideas of a `dream house'. It is based on an empirical investigation of taste and lifestyle using nationally representative survey data and qualitative interviews. The article shows both that personal resources and the imagination of home are linked to levels of cultural capital, and that rich methods of investigation are required to grasp the significance of these normally invisible assets to broaden the academic understanding of the field of housing in contemporary culture
Solution for a local straight cosmic string in the braneworld gravity
In this work we deal with the spacetime shaped by a straight cosmic string,
emerging from local gauge theories, in the braneworld gravity context. We
search for physical consequences of string features due to the modified
gravitational scenario encoded in the projected gravitational equations. It is
shown that cosmic strings in braneworld gravity may present significant
differences when compared to the general relativity predictions since its
linear density is modified and the deficit angle produced by the cosmic string
is attenuated. Furthermore, the existence of cosmic strings in that scenario
requires a strong restriction to the braneworld tension: , in Planck units.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figure
