DESENVOLVIMENTO DA AGRICULTURA EM QUINTAIS URBANOS

The backyards are one of the oldest forms of use and occupation of urban land, in which biodiversity is preserved and Urban Agriculture developed through the combination of fruit trees, perennial crops and around the residence. The objective of this article is to make a brief reflection about the contribution of the practice of agriculture in urban backyards to the promotion of food security, the preservation of biodiversity and the balanced and sustainable development of cities. The methodological approach included a review of the literature and analyzes of statistical data, which enabled a reflexive analysis of the object of study and the systematization of the data. The gardens feature a number of functions, from biodiversity conservation to the sociability of the locals. However, they are being decimated by other urban activities, intensifying the loss of biodiversity. The incentives to practice urban agriculture are strategic in promoting sustainable urban development.Os quintais são uma das formas mais antigas de modos de uso e de ocupação do solo urbano, nos quais se preservam biodiversidade e se desenvolvem a Agricultura Urbana através da combinação de árvores frutíferas, do cultivo de plantas perenes e da criação de animais em terrenos no entorno da residência. O objetivo deste artigo é realizar uma breve reflexão acerca da contribuição da prática da agricultura em quintais urbanos na promoção da segurança alimentar, na preservação da biodiversidade e no desenvolvimento equilibrado e sustentável das cidades. A abordagem metodológica incluiu a revisão de literatura e as análises de dados estatísticos, que possibilitaram uma análise reflexiva do objeto de estudo e a sistematização dos dados. Os quintais apresentam uma série de funções, desde a conservação da biodiversidade à sociabilidade dos moradores. Entretanto estão sendo dizimados por outras atividades urbanas, intensificando a perda da biodiversidade.
