The findings have clarified the correlation of duration of companiesā€™ action and work experience of employers on the attitude to personnel and on involving it in a management process in Latgale region. The research results allowed developing proposals to improve the implementation of strategic management by taking into account the role of personnel in this process

    Increasing participation of the elderly people in the labor market has significant potential to reduce the demographic burden. People who want to stay in the labor market longer and are physically fit to work longer should create the conditions for these opportunities. Research is needed to discover these options. Extending people's working lives depends on many factors. One of them is a working environment that is specific to each sector and different in each company. The aim of this research is to study the impact of some working environment factors on people's decision to work in retirement age in the education sector. This topic has not been sufficiently studied in Latvia yet. Express surveys and the survey methods were used for self-assessment of the impact of the working environment on people's decision to stay in the labor market longer. The developed proposals concern to creation of career support strategies for the elderly employeed. It will be able to promote the growth of labor market potential in Latvia in the education sector.

The polycentric development of cities and their surroundings is the main way for solution of this problem. Attractiveness of cities has a direct correlation to their competitiveness. Taking into account that tourism is one of the development directions related to all the towns in Latgale region, the object of this article is research of the attractiveness of towns from the touristsā€™ point of view. The main question of this research: Are the regional linguocultural aspects capable to develop a unique tourism product and increase attractiveness of a city? Tourists from Latviaā€™s regions have been surveyed in the Rezekne. Results of this survey and conclusions related to the role of unique local culture in attractiveness of polycentric development cities are described in this article

    OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE REGIONAL UNIVERSITY IN DECREASING EMIGRATION

    The trend in the decreasing number of inhabitants is a very significant regional problem in Latvia. During recent years many people of Latvia have emigrated as economic refugees to Ireland, the United Kingdom, Germany and other countries. More than 30% of them are well-educated young people who gained higher education in Latvia. Most of them are employed as unskilled labourers there. The potential causes of emigration of well-educated young people are analysed in this research study. The aim of the research study is to reveal potential emigration problems of the young generation and to research some opportunities for the regional university in decreasing youth emigration. Potential emigration problems are identified by using findings of a survey of students, organized at Rezekne University of Applied Sciences. The suggestions about opportunities for the regional university in decreasing youth emigration were developed by taking into account the results of the survey and cooperation possibilities between the regional university and municipalities and by changing the approach to the study process

    RESEARCH INTO SOME ECONOMIC ASPECTS RELATED TO EMIGRATION: THE CASE OF SLOVAKIA AND LATVIA

    The common problem in the EU countries is a high rate of youth unemployment. Many well- educated young people emigrate from their native countries with the aim to look for better job opportunities abroad. Slovakia and Latvia are the countries with a high rate of youth emigration. The major reason for emigration is the economic situation in both countries - high rate of unemployment and low wages. Usually emigrants from these countries are employed as unskilled workers abroad. Thereby the native countries of emigrants lose well-educated people but the destination countries of migrants do not exploit the skills and knowledge of these people. In this case this problem is a social problem at the EU level. The aim of this research study is to evaluate and to compare the economic situation in Slovakia and Latvia, as well as in the destination countries of migrants. Suggestions referred to the decrease in human capital flight or brain drain from Latvia and Slovakia are presented in this paper. The main sources exploited in the analysis embrace the European statistical database and the statistical databases of the Slovak Republic and the Republic of Latvia. This research focuses on the annual data of two countries covering a period of 2004-2014. The year 2004 for both countries is the year of their accession to the EU.
