Spatial energy spectrum of primordial magnetic fields

    Get PDF
Here, we analyze the primordial magnetic field transition between a radiative and a matter-dominated universe. The gravitational structure formation affects its evolution and energy spectrum. The structure excitation can trigger magnetic field amplification and the steepening of its energy density spectrum.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures, accepted for A&

    Order reduction in semiclassical cosmology

We investigate the Robertson-Walker cosmology with Lagrangian R+α1R2+α2RμνRμν+LradR+\alpha_1\hbar R^2+\alpha_2\hbar R^{\mu\nu}R_{\mu\nu} +L_{rad} where LradL_{rad} means classical source with traceless energy-momentum tensor. We weaken the self-consistence condition (L. Parker, J. Z. Simon, Phys. Rev. {D47}(1993),{1339}). Quantum corrections are expressed as contributions to the effective equation of state. We show that the empty space-time is stable within the class of radiation-filled expanding universes with no order reduction of the field equations.Comment: to be published in Phys.Rev.D vol. 59, 6 pages with 2 figure

Cosmic ray acceleration at supergalactic accretion shocks: a new upper energy limit due to a finite shock extension

Accretion flows onto supergalactic-scale structures are accompanied with large spatial scale shock waves. These shocks were postulated as possible sources of ultra-high energy cosmic rays. The highest particle energies were expected for perpendicular shock configuration in the so-called "Jokipii diffusion limit", involving weakly turbulent conditions in the large-scale magnetic field imbedded in the accreting plasma. For such configuration we discuss the process limiting the highest energy that particles can obtain in the first-order Fermi acceleration process due to finite shock extensions to the sides, along and across the mean magnetic field. Cosmic ray outflow along the shock structure can substantially lower (below ~10^18 eV for protons) the upper particle energy limit for conditions considered for supergalactic shocks.Comment: A&A, accepte

Centering Animality in Law and Liberation: The Zoopolitics of Reclaiming the Animal in Personhood

    Get PDF
Although there is widespread agreement that the property status of nonhuman animals is indefensible, the debate about how to remedy their situation is ongoing. This paper explores three possibilities for approaching the issue of legal status: (1) extending the existing concept of personhood beyond the human to other animals; (2) developing an alternative legal subjectivity for nonhuman animals that is neither property nor personhood; (3) redefining personhood in animal terms while retaining the rights-bearing significance of personhood and decentering the human from animal subjectivity in law. I offer a critique of the first two strategies and defend the third on both conceptual and political grounds, as most responsive to the requirements of a genuinely liberatory politics. I call this the centering animality approach and apply it to the legal context through my proposal of animal personhood

On some Turkish auxiliary verbs in Giovanni Molino’s "Dittionario della lingua italiana, turchesca" (1641)

Some Turkish verbs, besides their basic function, have an auxiliary function, forming compound verbs with nominal forms. This function is known not only in modern Turkish but also in Ottoman-Turkish. The purpose of this paper is to present the verbs etmek, olmak, eylemek, kılmak as examples of this function. The lexical material excerpted from Giovanni Molino’s seventeenth-century Italian-Turkish Dictionary constitutes the basis for the analysis. When analysing the material we can ascertain that in Ottoman-Turkish the verb etmek especially was frequently involved in the process of forming compound verbs, olmak rather less so, with eylemek and kılmak rarely performing this function. Indeed, the verbs etmek and olmak can still be observed to perform this function in modern Turkish, however, not on the same scale as in Ottoman-Turkish
