Solid waste management is a system involving all subsystems of management such as institutional, law, financing, operational, and community participation. Waste law which shelters the solid waste management is the umbrella of all local regulation (Perda). But in fact, its implementation and aplication have not run well as expected. Using a simple analisys method from personal experience as an Adipura award appraiser, thewriter tried to reveal the strengths and weaknesses in waste management all this time. The result shows that local governments, in general, haven't considered the wastemanagement subsystems integratedly in handling the municipal garbage. They usually see the problem partially, not as an integrated system which includes all the subsystems. Municipal waste management should not become a proses which is independent fromthe other subsystems. It is recommended that the head of regional government see the waste management

This paper presents the design and implementation of amobile embedded system using an Arduino microprocessor to monitorand record key operational indicators of a distribution transformer, such as transformer oil level, temperature and vibration of adistribution transformer in a substation. If there is any abnormalityor an emergency situation, the system sends SMS (Short MessageService) messages to designated mobile telephones containinginformation about the abnormality of the mentioned parameters.Providing early warning of the abnormality of the distributiontransformer can be accomplished by shutting down the entire unitwith the aid on-line monitoring system integrates with Global ServiceMobile (GSM) Modem. Furthermore, the design generally consiststand-alone single chip microcontroller, modem and sensor packageslocated on distribution transformer site. In general, the design isdeveloped for the user to easily recognize the distribution transformerthat is suffered by any high vibration and rise in temperatures andlocated in remote or suburban area which is rarely and hard to reachfor manual monitoring. The ultimate objective is to monitor thetransformer oil level and temperature of 24 hours, 7 days a weekcontinuously besides the current and voltage parameter whichincluded in basis monitoring syste

An overview of passive techniques for heat transfer augmentation in microchannel heat sink

Active and passive cooling are the two possible methods for removing heat. An active cooling system is the one that involves the use of energy as opposed to passive cooling that uses no energy. Passive cooling methods are cost effective and more reliable than active cooling due to the absence of moving parts. Microchannel heat sink is one of high-tech devices that have widely considered passive cooling methods especially for electronics cooling. In this paper, the use of passive cooling methods in microchannel heat sink is comprehensively discussed. This paper also present the effects of some important parameters such as the type of channel types, surface roughness, fluid additives, and Reynolds number on the rate of heat transfer in microchannel heat sink. Finally, the conclusions and important summaries were presented according to the data collected

Development of a remote accessible electrical power measuring system for domestic customer

Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) is a power utility company in Malaysia that performs three main thrust in the electricity sector. One of which is the distribution sector. The distribution sector involves other activity associated with the customer. Many initiatives have been introduced by TNB to satisfy all its customers. This research introduces a method of reading electric meter without sending meter readers to the premises of the customers. This method was introduced to large power customers (LPC) to ensure total consumption recorded is accurate. Since 2005, remote metering reading project has been using global packet radio service (GPRS) technology as a medium of communication. However, GPRS communication system at that time has not been widely used. Use of electronic meters is introduced to LPC because this meter can provide current information about electricity consumption. A total of 45,000 users of LPC involved in the installation of electronic meters and global system for mobile communication (GSM) modem in which this system can determine the amount of electric current consumption compared to manual meter reading is applied. In this project, the XBee radio module is used to send data to a GSM modem. From GSM modem, users can get the total electricity consumption through the SMS (short message service) system in their mobile phones. This project aim is to facilitate the customers so that they do not have to waste time going to the Kedai Tenaga (electricity payment counter) to find out the amount of energy consumed during the period. TNB can also collect the metering details without sending personnel to produce monthly bills
