    Influence of Salvia miltiorrhizae on the Mesenteric Lymph Node of Rats with Severe Acute Pancreatitis or Obstructive Jaundice

    Objective. To observe the effect of salvia miltiorrhizae injection on inflammatory mediator levels and mesenteric lymph nodes in severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) and obstructive jaundice (OJ) rats and explore the protective mechanism of salvia miltiorrhizae on the lymph nodes of these rats. Methods. A total of 288 rats were used in SAP-associated and OJ-associated experiments. The rats were randomly divided into sham-operated group, model control group, and treated group. At various time points after operation, the pathological changes in mesenteric lymph nodes of rats in each group were observed, respectively. Results. The pathological severity scores in lymph nodes of SAP rats in treated group were significantly lower than those in model control group (P < .05) while the pathological changes in lymph nodes of OJ rats in treated group also showed varying degrees of mitigation. Conclusion. Salvia miltiorrhizae can exert protective effects on the lymph nodes of SAP or OJ rats via a mechanism that is associated with reducing the contents of inflammatory mediators in blood

    CASE REPORT Disseminated Bacillus Calmette-Guérin Disease after BCG Vaccination: A Case Report from China

    ABSTRACT Background: Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccination is recommended for newborn infants worldwide to prevent tuberculosis. However, complications do occur inevitably in a very low rate, among which the most serious is disseminated disease. The disseminated bacillus Calmette-Guérin disease is a rare disease with high fatality, and can be seen among persons with an underlying immunodeficiency. Case presentation: We report a 4-month-old male infant presenting with recurrent fever, an isolated left axillary massand swelling at the site of BCG inoculation. The cellular immune function analysis showed that the value of CD4/CD8 was 0.994, indicating the existence of immunodeficiency.The results of blood culture and throat swab culture showed conditional pathogen infection. He died of cardiopulmonary failure. Conclusion: In this case, necropsy played a significant role in the final diagnosis of disseminated pulmonary tuberculosis

    Regulation of the expression of DAPK1 by SUMO pathway.

    Death Associated Protein Kinase 1 (DAPK1) is an important signaling kinase mediating the biological eect of multiple natural biomolecules such as IFN-, TNF-, curcumin, etc. DAPK1 is degraded through both ubiquitin-proteasomal and lysosomal degradation pathways. To investigate the crosstalk between these two DAPK1 degradation pathways, we carried out a screen using a set of ubiquitin E2 siRNAs at the presence of Tuberous Sclerous 2 (TSC2) and identified that the small ubiquitin-like molecule (SUMO) pathway is able to regulate the protein levels of DAPK1. Inhibition of the SUMO pathway enhanced DAPK1 protein levels and the minimum domain of DAPK1 proteinrequired for this regulation is the kinase domain, suggesting that the SUMO pathway regulates DAPK1 protein levels independent of TSC2. Suppression of the SUMO pathway did not enhance DAPK1 protein stability. In addition, mutation of the potential SUMO conjugation sites on DAPK1 kinase domain did not alter its protein stability or response to SUMO pathway inhibition. These data suggested that the SUMO pathway does not regulate DAPK1 protein degradation. The exact molecular mechanism underlying this regulation is yet to be discovered

    Sustainable Flame Retardant Coatings Derived from Chinese Lacquer Blend with Synergistic Flame Retardant Silicon-Modified Ammonium Polyphosphate

    The intumescent flame retardant has a high efficiency of carbonization, oxygen barrier, and thermal interruption effect, which is considered to be a promising green and environmentally friendly flame retardant. Herein, we demonstrated a new approach to improve the flame retardant performance of Chinese lacquer films by adding silicon modified ammonium polyphosphate (SAPP), leading to superior flame retardant. SAPP drastically raised the limiting oxygen index (LOI) from 20.1% to 30.6%, and at the same time, the impact resistance was increased from 7 cm to 20 cm without changing the hardness of the lacquer films. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and scanning electron microscopy were used to investigate the chemical components and morphology of the residual char of Chinese lacquer and SAPP composite films. The thermal degradation process of films was detected and analyzed by thermogravimetry and microcalorimetry, and the possible flame retardant mechanism was discussed. This simple approach opens up a new way to design for improved flame retardancy of organic film polymers
