Environmental problem is the key to the healthy development of China’s eco-economy, and the environmental responsibility of micro-enterprises under the vision of “Dual Carbon” has attracted more attention. Under the effect of formal environmental regulation, firms will improve their environmental performance by improving technology and resource utilization. As an informal environmental system, can government environmental information disclosure (GEID) guide firms to actively carry out green innovation, ultimately improve the carbon emission problem of firms, have a positive impact on the carbon performance of enterprises, and provide strong support to protect ecological environment? To address this question, this study used the Pollution Information Transparency Index (PITI) to measure GEID, and empirically tested the impact of GEID on corporate carbon performance using a sample of listed companies involved in China’s mining and manufacturing industries from 2013 to 2018. The study found that the higher the degree of GEID, the better was the corporate carbon performance. However, the improved public participation weakened the effect of GEID on corporate carbon performance. GEID reduced the carbon emission intensity of firms and improved their carbon performance via green innovation. Further research indicated that the enhanced GEID in state-owned enterprises significantly improved carbon performance of firms. This study provides empirical evidence for GEID to improve corporate carbon performance, and also proposes a policy strategy for the government to guide firms to undertake green innovation and promote firms to improve efficient carbon use

Objectives: This study examined whether social capital (SC) mediated the association between internalized homophobia (IH) and condomless sex among men who have sex with men (MSM), with the interaction of SC and IH considered. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted between November 2018 and April 2019 in Sichuan Province, China. A total of 540 participants were recruited to investigate their IH, SC, and condomless sex. A four-way decomposition of causal mediation analysis was used to test SC’s roles in the association between IH and condomless sex. Results: Condomless sex was prevalent (46.7%) among the participants, which was significantly associated with IH [odds ratio (OR) = 1.70] and SC (OR = 0.55). A direct effect [excess risk ratio (RR = 0.32)] and an indirect effect (excess RR = 0.16) of SC were found to be significant in the association between IH and condomless sex. Heterogeneities in effects were observed when taking the SC’s domains (e.g., individual and family-based SC) as mediators. SC’s effects were significant only in the homosexual subgroup. Conclusion: IH-based intervention with consideration of SC can be tailored to MSM to decrease condomless sex and curb the spread of HIV, especially for the homosexual subgroup

Haploinsufficiency of A20 in a Chinese child caused by loss-of-function mutations in TNFAIP3: A case report and review of the literature

    Get PDF
Case PresentationA 3-year-and-6-month-old child was reported to have recurrent high fever with generalized lymph node enlargement and significant elevation of inflammatory markers such as C-reactive protein and procalcitonin in tests. Later, whole exome sequencing determined that the child's disease was haploinsufficiency of A20 (HA20).ResultsAfter immunosuppressive therapy, the child's symptoms improved significantly, and the inflammatory markers dropped to the normal range.ConclusionBecause of the characteristics of HA20, this disease is often underdiagnosed and misdiagnosed in clinical practice. By reporting this case of HA20 in a child, we hope to increase the awareness of this disease in the clinic

BackgroundAntisaccade is closely associated with cognitive ability in Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, studies regarding antisaccade in the early stages of AD are scarce. Considering that first-degree family history is a well-established risk factor for AD, we explored the influence of family history on the performance of antisaccade tasks in individuals with normal cognition.MethodsIn total, 44 participants (aged 50–66 years) with a family history of AD (FH+) and 44 age-, gender-, and educational level-matched controls (FH-) were enrolled in our study. After cognitive assessment using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment and Mini-mental State Examination, participants underwent antisaccade trials, and all parameters were recorded using an eye tracker.ResultsWhile the average velocity was relatively lower in FH+ individuals than in FH− individuals (107.9 ± 14.3°/s vs. 132.9 ± 23.7°/s, p < 0.001), FH+ individuals surprisingly showed relatively fewer uninhibited reflexive saccades (44.7 ± 26.0% vs. 56.2 ± 24.7%, p = 0.037) than the control group. They also required a relatively shorter time to detect and correct false saccades (121.6 ± 40.7 ms vs. 143.9 ± 37.0 ms, p = 0.023).ConclusionsThis study showed that family history is associated with alterations in antisaccadic parameters, suggesting that eye tracking can be used to assess oculomotor control and executive function in individuals at risk of developing dementia

Talaromyces marneffei (TM) infection is rarely seen in clinical practice, and its pathogenesis may be related to deficiency in antifungal immune function. Human caspase recruitment domain-containing protein 9 (CARD9) is a key molecule in fungal immune surveillance. There have been no previous case reports of TM infection in individuals with CARD9 gene mutations. Herein, we report the case of a 7-month-old Chinese boy who was admitted to our hospital with recurring cough and fever with a papular rash. A blood culture produced TM growth, which was confirmed by metagenomic next-generation sequencing. One of the patient’s sisters had died of TM septicaemia at 9 months of age. Whole exome sequencing revealed that the patient had a complex heterozygous CARD9 gene mutation with a c.1118G>C p.R373P variation in exon 8 and a c.610C>T p.R204C variation in exon 4. Based on the culture results, voriconazole antifungal therapy was administered. On the third day of antifungal administration, his temperature dropped to within normal range, the rash gradually subsided, and the enlargement of his lymph nodes, liver, and spleen improved. Two months after discharge, he returned to the hospital for a follow-up examination. His general condition was good, and no specific abnormalities were detected. Oral voriconazole treatment was continued. Unexplained TM infection in HIV-negative individuals warrants investigation for immune deficiencies

【Abstraact】An imbalance in the lineages of immunosuppressive regulatory T cells (Treg cells) and the inflammatory TH17 subset of helper T cells leads to the development of autoimmune and/or inflammatory disease. Here we found that TAZ, a coactivator of TEAD transcription factors of Hippo signaling, was expressed under T H17 cell–inducing conditions and was required for TH17 differentiation and TH17 cell–mediated inflammatory diseases. TAZ was a critical co-activator of the TH17-defining transcription factor RORγt. In addition, TAZ attenuated Treg cell development by decreasing acetylation of the Treg cell master regulator Foxp3 mediated by the histone acetyltransferase Tip60, which targeted Foxp3 for proteasomal degradation. In contrast, under T regcell–skewing conditions, TEAD1 expression and sequestration of TAZ from the transcription factors RORγt and Foxp3 promoted Treg cell differentiation. Furthermore, deficiency in TAZ or overexpression of TEAD1 induced Treg cell differentiation, whereas expression of a transgene encoding TAZ or activation of TAZ directed TH17 cell differentiation. Our results demonstrate a pivotal role for TAZ in regulating the differentiation of Treg cells and TH17 cells.J. IntroductionEarly detection of the virus in the environment or in infected pigs is a critical step to stop African swine fever virus (ASFV) transmission. The p22 protein encoded by ASFV KP177R gene has been shown to have no effect on viral replication and virulence and can serve as a molecular marker for distinguishing field virus strains from future candidate KP177R deletion vaccine strains.MethodsThis study established an ASFV detection assay specific for the highly conserved ASFV KP177R gene based on recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) and the CRISPR/Cas12 reaction system. The KP177R gene served as the initial template for the RPA reaction to generate amplicons, which were recognized by guide RNA to activate the trans-cleavage activity of Cas12a protein, thereby leading to non-specific cleavage of single-stranded DNA as well as corresponding color reaction. The viral detection in this assay could be determined by visualizing the results of fluorescence or lateral flow dipstick (LFD) biotin blotting for color development, and was respectively referred to as fluorescein-labeled RPA-CRISPR/Cas12a and biotin-labeled LFD RPA-CRISPR/Cas12a. The clinical samples were simultaneously subjected to the aforementioned assay, while real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) was employed as a control for determining the diagnostic concordance rate between both assays.ResultsThe results showed that fluorescein- and biotin-labeled LFD KP177R RPA-CRISPR/Cas12a assays specifically detected ASFV, did not cross-react with other swine pathogens including PCV2, PEDV, PDCoV, and PRV. The detection assay established in this study had a limit of detection (LOD) of 6.8 copies/μL, and both assays were completed in 30 min. The KP177R RPA-CRISPR/Cas12a assay demonstrated a diagnostic coincidence rate of 100% and a kappa value of 1.000 (p < 0.001), with six out of ten clinical samples testing positive for ASFV using both KP177R RPA-CRISPR/Cas12a and RT-qPCR, while four samples tested negative in both assays.DiscussionThe rapid, sensitive and visual detection assay for ASFV developed in this study is suitable for field application in swine farms, particularly for future differentiation of field virus strains from candidate KP177R gene-deleted ASFV vaccines, which may be a valuable screening tool for ASF eradication

Thinopyrum intermedium (2n = 6x = 42, JJJSJSStSt) is one of the important resources for the wheat improvement. So far, a few Th. intermedium (Thi)-specific molecular markers have been reported, but the number is far from enough to meet the need of identifying alien fragments in wheat-Th. intermedium hybrids. In this study, 5,877,409 contigs were assembled using the Th. intermedium genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS) data. We obtained 5,452 non-redundant contigs containing mapped Thi-GBS markers with less than 20% similarity to the wheat genome and developed 2,019 sequence-tagged site (STS) molecular markers. Among the markers designed, 745 Thi-specific markers with amplification products in Th. intermedium but not in eight wheat landraces were further selected. The distribution of these markers in different homologous groups of Th. intermedium varied from 47 (7/12/28 on 6J/6St/6JS) to 183 (54/62/67 on 7J/7St/7JS). Furthermore, the effectiveness of these Thi-specific markers was verified using wheat-Th. intermedium partial amphidiploids, addition lines, substitution lines, and translocation lines. Markers developed in this study provide a convenient, rapid, reliable, and economical method for identifying Th. intermedium chromosomes in wheat. In addition, this set of Thi-specific markers can also be used to estimate genetic and physical locations of Th. intermedium chromatin in the introgression lines, thus providing valuable information for follow-up studies such as alien gene mining
