Exact Point Cloud Downsampling for Fast and Accurate Global Trajectory Optimization
This paper presents a point cloud downsampling algorithm for fast and
accurate trajectory optimization based on global registration error
minimization. The proposed algorithm selects a weighted subset of residuals of
the input point cloud such that the subset yields exactly the same quadratic
point cloud registration error function as that of the original point cloud at
the evaluation point. This method accurately approximates the original
registration error function with only a small subset of input points (29
residuals at a minimum). Experimental results using the KITTI dataset
demonstrate that the proposed algorithm significantly reduces processing time
(by 87\%) and memory consumption (by 99\%) for global registration error

Single-Shot Global Localization via Graph-Theoretic Correspondence Matching
This paper describes a method of global localization based on graph-theoretic
association of instances between a query and the prior map. The proposed
framework employs correspondence matching based on the maximum clique problem
(MCP). The framework is potentially applicable to other map and/or query
modalities thanks to the graph-based abstraction of the problem, while many of
existing global localization methods rely on a query and the dataset in the
same modality. We implement it with a semantically labeled 3D point cloud map,
and a semantic segmentation image as a query. Leveraging the graph-theoretic
framework, the proposed method realizes global localization exploiting only the
map and the query. The method shows promising results on multiple large-scale
simulated maps of urban scenes
Telmisartan improves nonalcoholic steatohepatitis in medaka (Oryzias latipes) by reducing macrophage infiltration and fat accumulation
We investigated the efficacy of the antihypertensive drug telmisartan (Tel) and the mechanisms underlying the progression from simple steatosis to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) in a medaka (Oryzias latipes) NASH model. We used the NASH activity score (NAS) developed in humans to assess the histology of the medaka NASH model and found that NAS increased with time. Further, TUNEL-positive apoptosis hepatocytes were found in the medaka NASH model. Tel administration resulted in the increased expression of liver peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ, carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1 and acyl-CoA oxidase 1 and decreased the number of 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine-positive hepatocytes and the migration of macrophages positive for diastase-periodic-acid-Schiff. Medaka NAS was improved by Tel administration but fatty acid content was not affected. Tel reduced the infiltration of macrophages into the liver and ameliorated NASH pathology
Positive allosteric adenosine A2A receptor modulation suppresses insomnia associated with mania- and schizophrenia-like behaviors in mice
Background: Insomnia is associated with psychiatric illnesses such as bipolar disorder or schizophrenia. Treating insomnia improves psychotic symptoms severity, quality of life, and functional outcomes. Patients with psychiatric disorders are often dissatisfied with the available therapeutic options for their insomnia. In contrast, positive allosteric modulation of adenosine A2A receptors (A2ARs) leads to slow-wave sleep without cardiovascular side effects in contrast to A2AR agonists.Methods: We investigated the hypnotic effects of A2AR positive allosteric modulators (PAMs) in mice with mania-like behavior produced by ablating GABAergic neurons in the ventral medial midbrain/pons area and in a mouse model of schizophrenia by knocking out of microtubule-associated protein 6. We also compared the properties of sleep induced by A2AR PAMs in mice with mania-like behavior with those induced by DORA-22, a dual orexin receptor antagonist that improves sleep in pre-clinical models, and the benzodiazepine diazepam.Results: A2AR PAMs suppress insomnia associated with mania- or schizophrenia-like behaviors in mice. A2AR PAM-mediated suppression of insomnia in mice with mania-like behavior was similar to that mediated by DORA-22, and, unlike diazepam, did not result in abnormal sleep.Conclusion: A2AR allosteric modulation may represent a new therapeutic avenue for sleep disruption associated with bipolar disorder or psychosis
Carbon impurities behavior and its impact on ion thermal confinement in high-ion-temperature deuterium discharges on the Large Helical Device
The behavior of carbon impurities in deuterium plasmas and its impact on thermal confinement were investigated in comparison with hydrogen plasmas in the Large Helical Device (LHD). Deuterium plasma experiments have been started in the LHD and high-ion-temperature plasmas with central ion temperature (T i) of 10 keV were successfully obtained. The thermal confinement improvement could be sustained for a longer time compared with hydrogen plasmas. An isotope effect was observed in the time evolution of the carbon density profiles. A transiently peaked profile was observed in the deuterium plasmas due to the smaller carbon convection velocity and diffusivity in the deuterium plasmas compared with the hydrogen plasmas. The peaked carbon density profile was strongly correlated to the ion thermal confinement improvement. The peaking of the carbon density profile will be one of the clues to clarify the unexplained mechanisms for the formations of ion internal transport barrier and impurity hole on LHD. These results could also lead to a better understanding of the isotope effect in the thermal confinement in torus plasma
