The construction industry of today’s world is becoming more challenging and the projects, on the other hand, are becoming more complex than before. The projects in construction industry consume huge proportions of resources especially in-terms of financial resources. Malaysian construction industry is also no exception to this challenging environment. Different concepts and technology innovations have been developed to mitigate and rule out factors affecting the performance of the construction industry. Building Information Modeling is one of them (BIM). The BIM technology helps building in a virtual environment prior to physical construction. This objective of this study is to propose a model / frame work based on BIM technology which will allow reducing the potential adverse affects of delays, cost overrun, productivity, quality and other errors in the light of the available literature and past construction practices. The paper highlights the challenging issues like construction delays, claims, design changes, delayed approvals etc. Keywords: Building Information Modelling (BIM), Construction Industry, Construction delays, Claims, Malaysian Construction Industr

Consequently, many clinical studies have linked nutrition with skin physiology. It is doubtful whether such individuals who consult doctors practicing dermatology are aware of such research findings and are uncertain of the reliable source of such information. We talked about the patient\u27s view concerning diet and skin care, such as the factors they think had negative or positive effects on their skin and the types of information they accessed from where Methods: A questionnaire was distributed among the enrolled participants, which was 409 total, from people in the city of Mecca. This survey gave their views on the role of nutrition. The responses were classified as diseases. Results and discussion: Of the 409 respondents, nearly 83% believed that diet impacts the health of their skin. No case of agreement differed more likely between the respondents with healthy skin and those with general skin diseases (P = 0.34). The subjects reported that the information about skin diseases they found was more likely to have come from trustworthy sources, like medical professionals and scholarly literature (p=0.02). Furthermore, a P-value of .002 showed that people whose opinions differed from opinion leaders tended to satisfy their information needs from reliable sources. Nevertheless, this occurrence of P-value 0.046 indicates that the relation is getting weaker when blogging is online. Conclusions: All healthcare professionals must be updated about the changing online resources as more patients are conversant with the Internet. With our research, dermatologists can give nutrition advice that will be helpful to their patients

Abstract

Background

Korean red ginseng (KRG) is a ginseng that has been cultivated and aged for 4-6 years or more, and goes through an extensive cleaning, steaming and drying process. KRG contains more than 30 kinds of saponin components and has been reported as having various biological properties, such as anti-fatigue action, immune restoration, and neurovegetative effect. The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of a KRG-containing drug (KRGCD) on gastric ulcer models in mice.

Methods

Stomach ulcers were induced by oral ingestion of hydrochloride (HCl)/ethanol or indomethacin. Treatment with KRGCD (30, 100, and 300 mg/kg, p.o.) occurred 1 hr before the ulcer induction. Effect of KRGCD on anti-oxidant activity and gastric mucosal blood flow with a laser Doppler flowmeter in mice stomach tissue was evaluated.

Results

KRGCD (100 and 300 mg/kg, p.o.) significantly decreased ethanol- and indomethacin-induced gastric ulcer compared with the vehicle-treated (control) group. KRGCD (100 and 300 mg/kg) also decreased the level of thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) and increased gastric mucosal blood flow compared with the control group.

Conclusions

These results suggest that the gastroprotective effects of KRGCD on mice ulcer models can be attributed to its ameliorating effect on oxidative damage and improving effect of gastric mucosal blood flow.</p

Evaluating the association of biallelic OGDHL variants with significant phenotypic heterogeneity

BACKGROUND: Biallelic variants in OGDHL, encoding part of the α-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase complex, have been associated with highly heterogeneous neurological and neurodevelopmental disorders. However, the validity of this association remains to be confirmed. A second OGDHL patient cohort was recruited to carefully assess the gene-disease relationship. METHODS: Using an unbiased genotype-first approach, we screened large, multiethnic aggregated sequencing datasets worldwide for biallelic OGDHL variants. We used CRISPR/Cas9 to generate zebrafish knockouts of ogdhl, ogdh paralogs, and dhtkd1 to investigate functional relationships and impact during development. Functional complementation with patient variant transcripts was conducted to systematically assess protein functionality as a readout for pathogenicity. RESULTS: A cohort of 14 individuals from 12 unrelated families exhibited highly variable clinical phenotypes, with the majority of them presenting at least one additional variant, potentially accounting for a blended phenotype and complicating phenotypic understanding. We also uncovered extreme clinical heterogeneity and high allele frequencies, occasionally incompatible with a fully penetrant recessive disorder. Human cDNA of previously described and new variants were tested in an ogdhl zebrafish knockout model, adding functional evidence for variant reclassification. We disclosed evidence of hypomorphic alleles as well as a loss-of-function variant without deleterious effects in zebrafish variant testing also showing discordant familial segregation, challenging the relationship of OGDHL as a conventional Mendelian gene. Going further, we uncovered evidence for a complex compensatory relationship among OGDH, OGDHL, and DHTKD1 isoenzymes that are associated with neurodevelopmental disorders and exhibit complex transcriptional compensation patterns with partial functional redundancy. CONCLUSIONS: Based on the results of genetic, clinical, and functional studies, we formed three hypotheses in which to frame observations: biallelic OGDHL variants lead to a highly variable monogenic disorder, variants in OGDHL are following a complex pattern of inheritance, or they may not be causative at all. Our study further highlights the continuing challenges of assessing the validity of reported disease-gene associations and effects of variants identified in these genes. This is particularly more complicated in making genetic diagnoses based on identification of variants in genes presenting a highly heterogenous phenotype such as "OGDHL-related disorders"

Black Girls Speak STEM: Counterstories of Informal and Formal Learning Experiences

    Get PDF
This study presents the interpretations and perceptions of Black girls who participated in I AM STEM – a community-based informal science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) program. Using narrative inquiry, participants generated detailed accounts of their informal and formal STEM learning experiences. Critical race methodology informed this research to portray the dynamic and complex experiences of girls of color, whose stories have historically been silenced and misrepresented. The data sources for this qualitative study included individual interviews, student reflection journals, samples of student work, and researcher memos, which were triangulated to produce six robust counterstories. Excerpts of the counterstories are presented in this article. The major findings of this research revealed that I AM STEM ignited an interest in STEM learning through field trips and direct engagement in scientific phenomena that allowed the girls to become agentic in continuing their engagement in STEM activities throughout the year. This call to awaken the voices of Black girls to speak casts light on their experiences and challenges as STEM learners ⎯ from their perspectives. The findings confirm that when credence and counterspaces are given to Black girls, they are poised to reveal their luster toward STEM learning. This study provided a space for Black girls to reflect on their STEM learning experiences, formulate new understandings, and make connections between the informal and formal learning environments within the context of their everyday lives, thus offering a more holistic approach to STEM learning that occurs across settings and over a lifetime

Allyphenyline, a novel α2-adrenoceptor (AR) ligand, has been shown to selectively activate α2C-adrenoceptors (AR) and 5HT1A receptors, but also to behave as a neutral antagonist of α2A-ARs. We exploited this unique pharmacological profile to analyze the role of α2C-ARs and 5HT1A receptors in the regulation of gastric mucosal integrity and gastrointestinal motility
