    Haldane phases and phase diagrams of the S = 3/2, 1 bilinear-biquadratic Heisenberg model on the orthogonal dimer chain

    We systematically study the effects of higher-order interactions on the S = 3/2, 1 orthogonal dimer chains using exact diagonalization and density matrix renormalization group. Due to frustration and higher spin, there are rich quantum phases, including three Haldane phases, two gapless phases and several magnetically ordered phases. To characterize these phases and their phase transitions, we study various physical quantities such as energy gap, energy level crossing, fidelity susceptibility, spin correlation, entanglement spectrum and central charge. According to our calculations, the biquadratic term can enhance the Haldane phase regions. In particular, we numerically identify that a Haldane phase in S = 3/2 case is adiabatically connected to the exact AKLT point when adding bicubic term. Our study on the orthogonal dimer model, which is a 1D version of Shastry-Sutherland model, provides insights into understanding the possible S = 3/2, 1 Haldane phases in quasi-1D and 2D frustrated magnetic materials.Comment: 14 pages, 17 figure

    Detecting Multimedia Generated by Large AI Models: A Survey

    The rapid advancement of Large AI Models (LAIMs), particularly diffusion models and large language models, has marked a new era where AI-generated multimedia is increasingly integrated into various aspects of daily life. Although beneficial in numerous fields, this content presents significant risks, including potential misuse, societal disruptions, and ethical concerns. Consequently, detecting multimedia generated by LAIMs has become crucial, with a marked rise in related research. Despite this, there remains a notable gap in systematic surveys that focus specifically on detecting LAIM-generated multimedia. Addressing this, we provide the first survey to comprehensively cover existing research on detecting multimedia (such as text, images, videos, audio, and multimodal content) created by LAIMs. Specifically, we introduce a novel taxonomy for detection methods, categorized by media modality, and aligned with two perspectives: pure detection (aiming to enhance detection performance) and beyond detection (adding attributes like generalizability, robustness, and interpretability to detectors). Additionally, we have presented a brief overview of generation mechanisms, public datasets, and online detection tools to provide a valuable resource for researchers and practitioners in this field. Furthermore, we identify current challenges in detection and propose directions for future research that address unexplored, ongoing, and emerging issues in detecting multimedia generated by LAIMs. Our aim for this survey is to fill an academic gap and contribute to global AI security efforts, helping to ensure the integrity of information in the digital realm.     Can Overconfidence be Debiased by Low-Probability/High-Consequence Events?

    During the first half of 2008, China suffered three natural disasters: a heavy snow storm, an outbreak of hand-foot-mouth disease, and a severe earthquake. The aim of the present study is to explore how low-probability/high-consequence events influence overconfidence. In Study 1, opportunity samples were obtained by recruiting residents in three different types of disaster-hit areas to answer a peer-comparison probability judgment questionnaire about 1 month after the corresponding disaster occurred. The performance of 539 participants in disaster-hit areas was compared with that of 142 residents in a nondisaster area. The findings indicate that residents in disaster-hit areas were less overconfident than those in the nondisaster area on both positive and negative events. In Study 2, we surveyed a total of 336 quake-victims 4 and 11 months after the earthquake to examine whether the impact of disasters on overconfidence would decay with time. The resulting data indicate that the disaster victims became more overconfident as time elapsed. The overall findings suggest that low-probability/high-consequence events could make people less overconfident and more rational and seem to serve as a function of debiasing.</p

    Introduction. This study aimed to explore the effects of TGF-β1 on regulating activities of cementoblasts and osteoblasts with or without stress. Material and Methods. Human recombinant TGF-β1 was added with different doses. Immunohistochemical test of osteoprotegerin (OPG)/receptor activator of nuclear factor-kappaB ligand (RANKL) and Alizarin Red-S staining were conducted. Mechanical compressive stress was obtained by increasing the pressure of gaseous phase. OPG/RANKL expression was detected in both cells through quantitative real-time PCR. Results. Similar significant differences (P<0.05) existed in OPG/RANKL change with increasing concentration of TGF-β1 without mechanical stress for cementoblasts and osteoblasts. However, under 3 h stress, OPG increased and RANKL decreased significantly (P<0.01) but with similar OPG/RANKL change. Moreover, under 24 h stress, OPG change exhibited no difference (P>0.05), but RANKL decreased significantly (P<0.01) at 10 and 100 ng/mL TGF-β1 in cementoblasts. In osteoblasts, OPG increased significantly (P<0.01) at 10 and 100 ng/mL, whereas RANKL decreased with statistical difference (P<0.05) at 1 and 10 ng/mL. Conclusions. The effects of TGF-β1 on OPG/RANKL expression of cementoblasts and osteoblasts are similar even without mechanical stress. However, these effects are different under mechanical compressive stress

    A new lanthanum(III)–copper(I) heterometallic coordination polymer, [Cu7La3Br6(C6H4NO2)8(C8H4O4)(H2O)4]n, has been prepared by a hydro­thermal method. Of the three La atoms in the asymmetric unit, two are eight-coordinate with bicapped trigonal–prismatic configurations; the third is nine-coordinated and has a tricapped trigonal–prismatic coordination geometry. Of the seven Cu atoms, two are two-coordinate with CuBrN and CuN2 ligand sets, three have trigonal configurations, viz. CuBrN2, CuBr2N and CuBr3, while the remaining two adopt distorted tetra­hedral CuBr3N geometries. In the crystal structure, adjacent La centers are linked by isonicotinate (IN−) and benzene-1,2-dicarboxyl­ate ligands to form a two-dimensional La–carboxyl­ate layer in the ab plane. These layers are further inter­connected with each other by bridging [Cu(IN)2] motifs, leading to an unusual three-dimensional heterometallic Cu–halide–lanthanide–organic framework, with the inorganic [Cu6Br6]n chains located in the resulting channels. Two Cu atoms are disordered over two positions, both with site occupancy factors of 0.80 and 0.20. O—H⋯O hydrogen bonding between water molecules and carboxylate O atoms helps to consolidate the crystal packing

    Clinical observation of phacoemulsification and IOL combined with goniosynechialysis for age-related cataract merging with PACG

    AIM: To investigate the curative effect of phacoemulsification and intraocular lens(IOL)implantation combined with goniosynechialysis in the treatment of age-related cataract merging with primary angle-closure glaucoma(PACG).METHODS: Totally 80 patients with age-related cataract merging with PACG were in our hospital from January 2014 to January 2016. The preoperative average intraocular pressure(IOP)was 33.22±3.17mmHg; the average depth of anterior chamber was 2.07±0.15mm; the dynamic situation of primary angle closure ≤1/2 cycle by gonioscope. They were randomly divided into Group A and B for doing a study. All the two groups were treated with phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation. And the Group A was with goniosynechialysis. The following up period was 2mo, and we observed the IOP, chamber depth and the anterior chamber angle.RESULTS: The change of chamber depth and intraocular pressure about the two groups: the average intraocular pressure of the Group A was 15.11±3.67mmHg,the chamber depth was 3.11±0.08mm; those of the Group B were 17.24±1.67mmHg, 2.76±0.15mm respectively; the differences had statistical significance(PPCONCLUSION: The phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation combined with goniosynechialysis in the treatment of age-related cataract merging with primary angle-dosure glaucoma is safe and reliable. It's simple to operate, and do not increase the risk of surgery
