    Thermalization in 2D critical quench and UV/IR mixing

    Abstract We consider quantum quenches in models of free scalars and fermions with a generic time-dependent mass m(t) that goes from m 0 to zero. We prove that, as anticipated in MSS [1], the post-quench dynamics can be described in terms of a state of the generalized Calabrese-Cardy form |ψ〉 = exp[−κ 2 H − ∑ n >2∞ κ n W n ]|Bd〉. The W n (n = 2, 3, . . ., W 2 = H) here represent the conserved W ∞ charges and |Bd〉 represents a conformal boundary state. Our result holds irrespective of whether the pre-quench state is a ground state or a squeezed state, and is proved without recourse to perturbation expansion in the κ n ’s as in MSS. We compute exact time-dependent correlators for some specific quench protocols m(t). The correlators explicitly show thermalization to a generalized Gibbs ensemble (GGE), with inverse temperature β = 4κ 2, and chemical potentials μ n = 4κ n . In case the pre-quench state is a ground state, it is possible to retrieve the exact quench protocol m(t) from the final GGE, by an application of inverse scattering techniques. Another notable result, which we interpret as a UV/IR mixing, is that the long distance and long time (IR) behaviour of some correlators depends crucially on all κ n ’s, although they are highly irrelevant couplings in the usual RG parlance.     Introduction: Somatization disorder is a debilitating condition, in which patients have multiple physical complaints with no explained cause and no relief even after consultations. Aim: The present study examined the association of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25[OH]D) levels, quality of life, disability, and symptom profile in long standing with somatization disorder. Methods: One-hundred three patients of somatization disorder suffering for ≥2 years, visiting psychiatry outpatient clinic during two consecutive summer season (April to June) of 2015–2016 were recruited. Symptom profile was studied using Patient-Health-Questionnaire (PHQ-15) items (somatic symptoms), PHQ-9 items (depressive symptoms), Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) item (anxiety symptoms).quality of life was assessed using the World Health Organization Quality of Life BREF 26 item, and disability measure was World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule (WHODAS) 2.0. 25(OH) D levels were estimated using chemiluminescence binding assay. Results: The poor quality of life in somatization disorder was significantly associated with disability, symptom profile using PHQ-15, PHQ-9, and GAD-7. 25(OH)D levels were deficient in 56.31% of the study population. Conclusion: The high somatic symptom severity in majority of patients suffering from somatization disorder needs more attention from psychiatrists across cultures so that functional status and quality of life can be improved. Routine estimation of Vitamin D levels and correction of its deficiency may bring about symptomatic relief at an early stage, thereby reducing the morbidity associated with the disorder

    An environmentally friendly synthesis method of activated carbons based on subabul (Leucaena leucocephala) sawdust waste for CO2 adsorption

    A novel micro-mesoporous activated carbon (SBL AC-700) is synthesized from subabul (Leucaena leucocephala) sawdust waste by direct single-stage physical activation at 700 \ub0C for 1 h for carbon capture applications. The synthesized AC is characterized to explore various physiochemical properties like elemental composition, surface morphology and crystallinity, presence of functional groups, surface area, pore size, and pore volume. Additionally, emphasis is given to exploring the thermophysical aspects of the novel AC, the literature regarding which is scarce in the open domain. The CO2 adsorption study is carried out for a 0–1 bar pressure for temperatures ranging from 0 to 75 \ub0C. The analysis revealed that the AC possesses a surface area of 590 m2/g and pore volume and width of 0.27 cm3/g and 1.85 nm, corresponding to a 70% microporosity with a well-developed porous structure. At 25 \ub0C and 1 bar, a CO2 uptake of 40.54 cm3/g is achieved, corresponding to an increment of 6–202% compared to other commercials, chemically and physically activated carbons. Moreover, SBL AC-700 has a thermal conductivity of 0.095 W/m K, 8–131% higher than other benchmarks ACs and much lower specific heat of 0.82 kJ/kg K corresponding to lesser regeneration energy requirements. Experimental data are fitted with various isotherm models, i.e., Langmuir, Freundlich, Sips, R–P, and Toth, out of which R–P and Toth models exhibit the best fit. In continuation, adsorption kinetics is studied to explore the dynamic performance of the SBL AC-700 by using Pseudo-first-order, Pseudo-second-order, Elovich, and intraparticle diffusion kinetic models

    Lithium Battery Ingestion: An Unusual Cause of Bilateral Cord Palsy

    Bilateral vocal cord palsy is a rare but life threatening complication of lithium battery ingestion in children. This complication is mostly missed by otorhinolaryngologists due to lack of awareness on the cited subject. We present one such rare case in an infant, where the clinical presentation was found to be unique but hitherto unreported in the medical literature. This clinical record discusses this case in light of the scant current medical literature on the subject and highlights the importance of cautious monitoring of patients presenting with signs of respiratory distress after lithium battery removal

    Septic Lateral Sinus Thrombosis: Sinus Exploration Is Unnecessary

    The algorithm of treatment of septic lateral sinus thrombosis (SLST) has undergone a paradigm shift with the understanding of the natural history of sigmoid sinus thrombosis. Thus, the recent medical literature promulgates the management of these cases with no sinus exploration. However, in view of marked paucity of literature on the cited subject, not much is known about this form of treatment. We present our experience of treating two paediatric cases of SLST with mastoid surgery and no sinus exploration: both cases had excellent recovery. Finally, conclusions are drawn in light of contemporary literature on this subject
