Liminality: an affinity with Guimarães’ derelict architecture in the autobiographical fiction of an individuum

Dissertação de mestardo integrado em ArchitectureInto the in-betweenness(es) is what the dissertation appoints to a time, a place, and an experience. It expresses the present state of the deindustrialized ‘factory of Cavalinho’ (located in Guimarães, Portugal). And it concurrently explores how we interact with its built environment, namely having an environmental experience. In short, the dissertation is, conceivably, a contribution to tracing the term ‘liminality’ in relation to a derelict architecture. By entering liminality, we fictionalize our journey into the in-between. And since the factory is experienced by us, we come to know the factory in ourself and ourself in it. So that in our articulation of theories that tend to be related to the ‘limen’ (which is the threshold, the border, the in-between, ...), the dissertation merges the factory´s present condition with a liminal -topia that interrupts its abandonment.Esta dissertação aponta para um tempo, um lugar e uma experiência no meio de um intervalo, num lugar entre (si). A partir do estado actual da ‘fábrica desindustrializada do Cavalinho’ (localizada em Guimarães, Portugal), a investigação desenvolve uma interacção com o espaço construído sob a forma de uma experiência ambiental. Pretendendo contribuir para uma definição do termo ‘liminaridade’, na sua relação com arquitetura delapidada, fixamos e ficcionamos o nosso percurso nesse lugar intermédio, como se de um método se tratasse. E como a fábrica é experimentada e percorrida por nós, reconhecemo-la em nós e a nós mesmos nela.
