The WHO program is aimed at the target audience (elderly people) and consists of 6 fundamental provisions: the prevalence of ageism in the world, the causes or determinants of ageism, the consequences of ageism at the individual level and at the level of society, strategies to minimize ageism, a system of indicators for quantitative assessment of various aspects of ageism and its manifestations, the most effective ways of forming an understanding of the problem in society and explanation of the concepts of age and aging.Conclusion. Carried out within the framework of WHO recommendations and the “Strategy of actions in the interests of elderly citizens in the Russian Federation until 2025”, the activities will help to rethink the perception of the phenomenon of aging of the population and allow more effective use of the provided opportunities to prevent manifestations of gerontological ageism.
Physical Activity, Life Satisfaction, Stress Perception and Coping Strategies of University Students in Belarus during the COVID-19 Pandemic
The COVID-19 restrictions in Belarus turned out to be less stringent than those of its neighboring countries. Objective: We aimed to evaluate physical activity, life satisfaction, perception of stress, choice of coping strategies and their correlations among Belarusian students. An anonymous Internet survey was conducted among 1769 students studying at the faculties of physical culture (415), pedagogical (737), and medical (617) universities. International Physical Activity Questionnaires (IPAQ) and Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS), Perceived Stress Scale-10 (PSS-10), and Coping Orientations to Problems Experienced (mini-COPE) questionnaires were used. The respondents declared sufficient and high levels of physical activity. The level of physical activity was correlated with life satisfaction (typically for student-athletes). The least satisfaction with life and highest level of perceived stress were among future doctors. The minimum indicator of stress was noted in athletes. The most common coping strategy was active coping. Strategies of problem avoidance and
seeking support from outside were not used by student-athletes. These strategies were used by pedagogical and medical students. Student-athletes have the most favorable opportunities, followed by representatives of pedagogical and medical students. The proposed classification of the levels of behavior (optimal, acceptable, satisfactory and risky) makes it possible to adjust lifestyles
Essential Medicines at the National Level : The Global Asthma Network's Essential Asthma Medicines Survey 2014
Patients with asthma need uninterrupted supplies of affordable, quality-assured essential medicines. However, access in many low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) is limited. The World Health Organization (WHO) Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Global Action Plan 2013-2020 sets an 80% target for essential NCD medicines' availability. Poor access is partly due to medicines not being included on the national Essential Medicines Lists (EML) and/or National Reimbursement Lists (NRL) which guide the provision of free/subsidised medicines. We aimed to determine how many countries have essential asthma medicines on their EML and NRL, which essential asthma medicines, and whether surveys might monitor progress. A cross-sectional survey in 2013-2015 of Global Asthma Network principal investigators generated 111/120 (93%) responses41 high-income countries and territories (HICs); 70 LMICs. Patients in HICs with NRL are best served (91% HICs included ICS (inhaled corticosteroids) and salbutamol). Patients in the 24 (34%) LMICs with no NRL and the 14 (30%) LMICs with an NRL, however no ICS are likely to have very poor access to affordable, quality-assured ICS. Many LMICs do not have essential asthma medicines on their EML or NRL. Technical guidance and advocacy for policy change is required. Improving access to these medicines will improve the health system's capacity to address NCDs.Peer reviewe
Badania epidemiologiczne w pracach młodych naukowców: zasady dobrej praktyki publikacyjnej
Epidemiological studies hold a significant position in the research conducted by young scientists. One of the key aims of establishing the epidemiology of non-communicable diseases is studying the incidence of features of states and events connected with health in specified populations. This in turn is closely connected with the assessment of factors affecting health, which is the basis of information used by health care providers and other institutions. Apart from planning and conducting studies, a young scientist has to describe and publish their results. Only a full publication in a peer-reviewed journal represents the highest scientific value. This paper presents epidemiology as a science and methodology by using definitions, classifications and main goals. The short depiction presents epidemiology as a tool for assessing the health of a society and describes the main good practices for publishing the results of epidemiological studies.
Międzynarodowe zespoły badawcze – społeczne narzędzie promocji zdrowia i edukacji zdrowotnej
Background: Research centers, operating in a very dynamic, changing and complex environment in the first decade of the 21st century, face a number of major challenges. Universities set up virtual research teams (VRTs), whose cooperation proves extremely effective, despite geographical distances, borders, differences resulting from time zones, cultural and organizational dissimilarities. They work out common models which are then put into practical action in those academic institutions. For five years now VRTs formed by employees of the colleges of higher education based in Suwalki and Grodno have been working successfully.
Aim of the study: Assessment of joint activities developed by VRTs, based on an analysis of medical and social aspects of pro-health attitudes declared by students of Prof. Edward F. Szczepanik State Vocational College in Suwalki (SVC) and Yanka Kupala State University in Grodno (YKU).
Material and methods: The studies in Grodno and Suwalki were carried out by a VRT coordinated by SVC in Suwalki, within the framework of the “Pro-health program for the years 2013–2016”. We used the online questionnaire system LimeSurvey (social, organizational and statistical tool for implementation of health promotion and health education).
Results: Upon the analysis of 4,878 original electronic surveys, which were conducted in 2013–2015, Suwalki-Grodno-based VRTs obtained extensive knowledge of pro-health attitudes of students of both academic centers. As a result, there were created databases of, among others: a) studies on the impact of health-targeting behaviors, b) studies on the prevalence of psychoactive substances (alcohol, tobacco, drugs) among students, c) studies on knowledge about diseases related to addictions, and d) studies on the model of physical activity among students.
Conclusions: 1. Unconventional forms of work, including also the sphere of science, materialize along with socio-technological developments and the appearance of new, innovative communication media. 2. Activities of VRTs to a significant extent contribute to an international research cooperation. 3. Verification of the health policy implemented by both academic centers poses a challenge to actions undertaken by Grodno and Suwalki VRTs.Wstęp: Ośrodki naukowe pierwszej dekady XXI wieku, działające
w niezwykle dynamicznym, zmiennym i złożonym środowisku,
stają obecnie przed szeregiem ważnych wyzwań.
W uczelniach powstają wirtualne zespoły badawcze (WZB),
które niezwykle efektywnie współpracują ze sobą, pomimo
odległości geograficznej, granic, różnic czasowych, kulturowych
i organizacyjnych.
obu uczelni.
Cel pracy: Ocena wspólnych działań WZB na podstawie analiz
medycznych i społecznych aspektów postaw prozdrowotnych
studentów Państwowej Wyższej Szkoły Zawodowej im.
prof. Edwarda F. Szczepanika w Suwałkach oraz Państwowego
Uniwersytetu im. Janki Kupały w Grodnie.
Materiał i metody: Badania w Grodnie i Suwałkach wykonano
w zakresie działań WZB koordynowanych przez uczelnię
w Suwałkach, w ramach „Programu prozdrowotnego na
lata 2013–2016”. Wykorzystano internetowy system ankiet
LimeSurvey (społeczne narzędzie organizacyjne i statystyczne
dla wdrożenia promocji zdrowia i edukacji zdrowotnej).
Wyniki: Suwalsko-grodzieński WZB z analizy 4878 autorskich
elektronicznych ankiet, przeprowadzonych w latach 2013–2015, uzyskał obszerną wiedzę na temat postaw prozdrowotnych studentów obu uczeni. Powstały bazy danych
gromadzące badania dotyczące m.in.: a) wpływu zachowań
studentów na zdrowie, b) rozpowszechnienia środków psychoaktywnych
(alkohol, tytoń, narkotyki) wśród studentów,
c) znajomości chorób związanych z uzależnieniami oraz
d) modelu aktywności fizycznej wśród studentów.
Wnioski: 1. Niekonwencjonalne formy sposobów współpracy,
także w dziedzinie nauki, powstają wraz z rozwojem
społeczno-technologicznym oraz pojawieniem się nowych
innowacyjnych mediów komunikacyjnych. 2. Działania WZB
istotnie wspomagają międzynarodową współpracę naukową.
Epidemiological studies as a basis of information for diagnosis of the allergic diseases of the respiratory system and skin of the children 6–7 and 13–14 years in the Grodno region
Cel pracy: Celem pracy jest ocena częstotliwości występowania astmy i chorób alergicznych, głównych objawów alergicznych i oddechowych wśród miejskich i wiejskich dzieci w wieku 6–7 i 13–14 lat (w grupach wiekowych według badań ISAAC) w rejonie Grodna.
lekarza. Wskaźnik występowania astmy wyniósł wśród dzieci
miejskich 1,74% (19 osób), a wiejskich – 1,0% (11 dzieci). Po
głębszej analizie odpowiedzi ustalono, że 60 dzieci (2,74%)
miało w ciągu ostatnich 12 miesięcy świsty w klatce piersiowej i napady kaszlu. Częstotliwość występowania alergicznego nieżytu nosa i atopowego zapalenia skóry wynosiła
około 4% i 10%.
narodowym. Background: Widespread, medical and social consequences,
impact on quality of life and the significant cost of allergic
diseases justify a number of measures for the prevention of
diseases. What is clear is that official statistics may not match
the true prevalence of allergic diseases in general, especially
asthma.
Aim of the study: Estimate the prevalence of asthma and allergic diseases, the main symptoms of allergic and respiratory
among urban and rural children aged 6–7 years and 13–14
years in the Grodno region carried out in accordance with
internationally recognized research methodology.
Material and methods: The survey questionnaire (based on
a survey ISAAC) 2187 was attended by parents of children 6–7
years and 13–14 years of Grodno and region (1091 children
from the city, and in 1096 from the village). 955 children aged
6–7 years, 1232 at the age of 13–14 years. Knowing this with
asthma may be suspected in patients, who feel shortness of
breath accompanied by wheezing, tightness in the chest or
cough and allergic diseases (allergic rhinitis and atopic der-
matitis), analyzed the incidence of these symptoms and dis-
eases among children.
Results: Demonstrated a low incidence of asthma among chil-
dren in the age group of standardized. Parents of 30 children
(1.37% respondents) confirms the existence of disease in chil-
dren under physician diagnose disease. Prevalence of asthma
among urban children was 1.74% (19 people) and rural – 1.0%
(11 children). With a deeper analysis of responses established
with 60 children (2.74%) had in the last 12 months wheezing in
the chest and coughing. The incidence of allergic rhinitis and
atopic dermatitis is about 4% and 10%. These diseases often
found only among children with asthma.
Conclusions: Since the identification of asthma in children
based on the diagnosis by the doctor is not high, can’t be
excluded that this reflects a failure to recognize the disease.
Noted marked differences in the prevalence of respiratory
symptoms, manifesting linking asthma and asthma with allergic diseases. It seems necessary to continuously monitor
these phenomena through the continuation of epidemiological studies as a basis for the development of information and
implementation of prevention programs and epidemiological evaluation of the effectiveness of prevention at regional and international
Quality of life of the disabled with the pain in the lower back after the application of the therapeutic massage
chorobach dolnego odcinka kręgosłupa prowadzą do obniżenia
Materiał i metody: Zabiegom zostało poddanych 30 osób (17
mężczyzn i 13 kobiet) w wieku 25–66 lat, czynnych zawodowo,
z Zakładu Pracy Chronionej „Agema Serwis”. Posiadali oni orzeczenia o stopniu niepełnosprawności umiarkowanym
lub znacznym. Ocena jakości życia była przeprowadzona na
podstawie ankiety przy użyciu wskaźników jakościowych przed
i po zastosowaniu programu rehabilitacyjnego w klasycznych
aspektach: a) samopoczucie i subiektywne odczuwanie bólu;
b) samoobsługa i codzienne funkcjonowanie w środowisku
domowym; c) funkcjonowanie w pracy i wykonywanie czynności
zawodowych; d) życie towarzyskie i społeczne.
Wyniki: Przeprowadzone badania ankietowe potwierdziły, że
w odczuciu respondentów uległa poprawie jakość życia we
wszystkich badanych aspektach. Po terapii 43,3% osób oceniło,
że czuje się dobrze, a 26,8% – bardzo dobrze. Źle czuły się
tylko cztery osoby. U większości badanych nastąpiła poprawa
w samoobsłudze i wykonywaniu czynności życia codziennego
w środowisku domowym i w pracy zawodowej. Jedna czwarta badanych osób nie odczuwała bólu w trakcie długotrwałego
siedzenia w pracy, ból przeszkadzał nieznacznie 16 osobom (53,3%), zaś średnio lub często – 6 (20%). Poprawę jakości snu odnotowało 22 pacjentów (73,3%). Niestety, tylko wśród niewielkiej części respondentów nastąpił wzrost aktywności
społecznej i towarzyskiej.
towarzyskich.
Wnioski: Program zabiegów masażu leczniczego stanowi
cenną i efektywną terapię psychofizyczną, dzięki której można
Background: Every dysfunction, ailment or prolonged pain
affecting lower parts of the spine leads to the decline of the
quality of life. Thus, any therapeutic procedure, including the massage, which results in the reduction of the pain and the increase of medical fitness has a substantial impact on
its improvement .
Aim of the study: The aim of the study was to assess the quality
of life after the application of a proprietary therapeutic massage
program in the disabled with the pain in the lower back.
Material and methods: The research was carried out in 30
people (17 men and 13 women) aged 25–66 being on the staff
of ‘Agema Service’ – a sheltered workshop. They were certified
as moderately or severely disabled. The assessment of the quality of their life was performed upon the survey using
qualitative indicators before and after the application of the
rehabilitation program in aspects such as a) well-being and
subjective pain sensation; b) self-service and daily functioning
in home environment; c) functioning at work and performing
professional activities; d) social life.
Results: The survey confirmed that respondents feel the
improved quality of their life in all the aspects examined in
the survey. After the treatment, 43.3% of people stated that
they felt good and 26.8% felt very well. Only 4 patients felt
badly. The majority of the respondents noticed the improvement
in their daily activities at home and work. One quarter of them had no pain during prolonged sitting hours at work. The pain slightly disturbed 16 persons (53.3%), while 6 of them
confirmed it appeared sometimes or often (20%). 22 patients
(73.3%) reported a significant improvement in the quality of
their sleep. Unfortunately, only a small group of the respondents
increased their social activity. Only 7 patients (23.4%) noted
that their social life improved considerably, which meant that
the pain did not influence their physical activity and social
gatherings were more welcome.
Conclusions: The program of the therapeutic massage treatments is a valuable and effective psychophysical technique.
It helps in a relatively short period of time achieve a relief of
symptoms of the spinal pain which most often affect people’s
mood, especially in the disabled living in a sheltered workshop.
It confirmed the importance of medical rehabilitation of persons
with disabilities to reduce their pain and the impact it has on vocational and social rehabilitation. Despite the reduction
of pain in the lower back, unfortunately, it does not motivate
much to increase physical activity
Evaluation of the possibility of using Anderson and Dedrick’s Trust in Physician Scale in Belarusian conditions
Introduction: A patient that trusts a doctor feels safer and more easily adapts to a doctor's recommendations. Aim of the study: To assess the possibility of using the patient's trust scale by Anderson and Dedrick in Belarusian conditions. Materials and Methods: The study used the Trust in Physician Scale (TPS) by Anderson and Dedrick. Validation was performed on a group of 251 randomly selected individuals. The validation process consisted of two parts: translation and evaluation of the psychometric properties of the newly translated instrument, and its purpose was to compare the results obtained at the intercultural (international) level and apply the test in Belarus. Results: Internal consistency of the Russian TPS was high (Cronbach’s alpha = .891). The highest mean scores were for items “My doctor is a real expert in taking care of medical problems like mine” - 3.95±0.77; “I trust my doctor to put my medical needs above all other considerations when treating my medical problems” - 3.83±0.80; “I trust my doctor’s judgments about my medical care” - 3.66±0.88; and “I trust my doctor so much, I always try to follow his/her advice” - 3.64±0.99. Conclusions: The Russian language scale fulfills all the criteria of psychometric equivalence with the original version of The Trust in Physician Scale
