Mobile Broadband Possibilities considering the Arrival of IEEE 802.16m & LTE with an Emphasis on South Asia

    Get PDF
This paper intends to look deeper into finding an ideal mobile broadband solution. Special stress has been put in the South Asian region through some comparative analysis. Proving their competency in numerous aspects, WiMAX and LTE already have already made a strong position in telecommunication industry. Both WiMAX and LTE are 4G technologies designed to move data rather than voice having IP networks based on OFDM technology. So, they aren't like typical technological rivals as of GSM and CDMA. But still a gesture of hostility seems to outburst long before the stable commercial launch of LTE. In this paper various aspects of WiMAX and LTE for deployment have been analyzed. Again, we tried to make every possible consideration with respect to south Asia i.e. how mass people of this region may be benefited. As a result, it might be regarded as a good source in case of making major BWA deployment decisions in this region. Besides these, it also opens the path for further research and in depth thinking in this issue.Comment: IEEE Publication format, ISSN 1947 5500, http://sites.google.com/site/ijcsis

Prospect of Enhanced Geothermal system in baseload power generation

    Get PDF
Given the strength of commodity prices in recent years, concerns over energy security and widening adoption of carbon emission pricing, renewables are well positioned to play growing role in global energy mix. Geothermal energy is on the face of it. By harnessing the heat of the earth, geothermal power plants tap into a virtually inexhaustible and continuous source of energy, using a small footprint facility to provide baseload electricity that is virtually CO2 and waste free. Geothermal projects today center on the exploitation of hydrothermal resources- reservoirs of naturally occurring water. This could change with Enhanced Geothermal System (EGS), a new form of geothermal exploitation being tested in areas that are not hydrothermal. This paper discusses the prospect of Enhanced (or Engineered) Geothermal System as a means to the baseload power generation. It also focuses on the technology behind creating engineered reservoirs, drilling costs and also the economics involved. It also reviews the environmental impacts as well as the areas for possible developments

Relationship between Personality Traits of the Urban Poor Concerning Solid Waste Management and Household Income and Education

    Get PDF
This study analyzes the relationship between knowledge, attitude, and behaviour of the urban poor householders concerning solid waste management systems and monthly household income and education. To attain the objective, the study employed statistical techniques such as t-tests of equality of means, one-way ANOVA, chi-squared „likelihood ratio“ test and simple descriptive statistics. The findings show that the urban poor communities with low income and education have been proven to behave in ways matching with and conducive to environment-friendly solid waste management, for instance, by practicing recycling and waste source reduction. This study also proves that the urban low-income communities generally have a very proactive role from a sound environmental management perspective, as they are the main recyclers and source-reducers of solid waste. The study suggests that policies should be formulated to focus on promoting knowledge, education, skills, and empowerment of the urban poor as means of promoting their living conditions

Embedded programmable web-based ECG monitoring & detection system using a fast algorithm

    Get PDF
This paper presents the design of a complete portable package for a low cost embedded programmable ECG measurement and monitoring system implemented by a fast algorithm in detecting ECG characteristics points. This proposed system is expected to monitor the electrical activity of heart of the patient under critical care more conveniently and accurately for diagnosing which can be interfaced with computer to bring it under a network system widely for the doctor to monitor the patient's condition sitting in his own office without being physically present near to the patient's bed

Utilization of social media for different business purposes: A social media age?

    Get PDF
The utilization of social networking sites (SNSs) and social networking information (SNI) as parts of broader social media (SM) for various business purposes and practices have gained substantive importance from the academicians and practitioners in recent years. This paper theoretically aims to highlight some of such utilization based on published papers. We carefully selected 132 such papers from “Google Scholar” searching for most frequently used keywords such as SM, SNS, SNI, business, human resource management (HRM), marketing, branding, talent search & acquisition, recruitment & selection etc. After reviewing those papers, we identified that, in general, SM is an increasingly used platform for different business purposes. We anticipate that, despite of several flaws, SNSs will continue to gain momentous attention of all types of users in upcoming years creating a social media based business world. We are hopeful that the paper will be useful for the academicians, practitioners and policymakers from a number of viewpoints

Forest-based Tourism in Bangladesh: Challenges Unveiled for the Sundarbans

    Get PDF
Tourism is one of the ever-growing industries all around the world. It has been highlighted recently as a priority sector for Bangladesh to utilize the country’s natural beauty, cultural, and archaeological heritage. Among lots of attractions, the Sundarbans Reserved Forest (SRF) in Bangladesh is the single most extensive mangrove forest in the world. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has declared the Sundarbans as a world heritage site since it represents the world’s largest continuous mangrove forest. Despite having so many advantageous factors and parameters, Sundarbans has not been able to attract the deserved level of attention and remains impoverished. This study has considered the Sundarbans as a single holistic case to understand various challenges within a lens of forest-based tourism aligning the tourism development context of Bangladesh. In so doing, a qualitative research approach has been employed. Under such an approach, multiple data collection techniques have been utilized to collect empirical evidence including in-depth interviews, participant observation, and secondary (both published and unpublished) sources. Findings of the study indicate that tourism development in Sundarbans is challenged by inadequate infrastructures, lack of proper planning and management, dominance of wealthy urban elites, lack of training and education, limited support from local authorities, issues of security, and deception from fraudulent intermediaries. This research is particularly meaningful for tourism policymakers in Bangladesh who lack research support for their decisions. Keywords: forest-based tourism, challenges, the Sundarbans, tourism policymakers, Banglades

Redesigning archive literacy service by using social media as a tool: Cases in Japan archive centers

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study is to explore the type of social media tools used in archive centers; and to analyse the scope of using social media in archival literacy. The study employed a qualitative research methodology. Primary data were collected through a structured open and close-ended questionnaire from person in-charge/planning manager/manager/director of the prefecture, municipal, city, and university archive centers in Japan. A total of 92 questionnaires had been distributed, and 68 (75.56%) responses were collected for analysis. Results show that the National Archives of Japan (NAJ) has a good number of twitter and Facebook followers along with a good number of the subscribers of YouTube and RSS. So far, though prefecture and municipal archive centers use social media and other web-based tools, most of them provide only basic information about their archival center. They do not evaluate and utilize users' feedback for revitalizing their service. The study proposed an interactive archive literacy model integrating users, archive centers, and social media tools to make the user literate
