    A reliable micro-grid with seamless transition between grid connected and islanded mode for residential community with enhanced power quality

    This paper presents a reliable micro-grid for residential community with modified control techniques to achieve enhanced operation during grid connected, islanded and resynchronization mode. The proposed micro-grid is a combination of solar photo-voltaic (PV), battery storage system and locally distributed DG systems with residential local loads. A modified power control technique is developed such that, local load reactive power demand, harmonic currents and load unbalance is compensated by respective residential local DG. However, active power demand of all local residential load is shared between the micro-grid and respective local DG. This control technique also achieves constant active power loading on the micro-grid by supporting additional active power local load demand of respective residential DG. Hence, proposed modified power control technique achieves transient free operation of the micro-grid during residential load disturbances. An additional modified control technique is also developed to achieve seamless transition of micro-grid between grid connected mode and islanded mode. The dynamic performance of this micro-grid during grid connected, islanded and re-synchronization mode under linear and non-linear load variations is verified using real time simulator (RTS)

    Response of Garlic to Organic and Inorganic Fertilizers

    An experiment was carried out to study the response of organic and inorganic fertilizers on growth, yield and quality of garlic (Allium sativum L.) cv. Yamuna Safed-3. The results revealed that the combined application of 25% RDF with 75% N through FYM @ 20 t/ha gave higher marketable bulb yield of 19.34t/ha as compared to other treatments which were statistically on par with 100% RDF (18.53 t/ha ) and 50% RDF + 50% N supplied as FYM (18.94 t/ha). It is suggested that for better biometric observations, bulb characters and marketable bulb yield in garlic, combined use of inorganic and organic source of nutrient supply is preferable

    Microfabrication of a biomimetic arcade-like electrospun scaffold for cartilage tissue engineering applications

    Designing and fabricating hierarchical geometries for tissue engineering (TE) applications is the major challenge and also the biggest opportunity of regenerative medicine in recent years, being the in vitro recreation of the arcade-like cartilaginous tissue one of the most critical examples due to the current inefficient standard medical procedures and the lack of fabrication techniques capable of building scaffolds with the required architecture in a cost and time effective way. Taking this into account, we suggest a feasible and accurate methodology that uses a sequential adaptation of an electrospinning-electrospraying set up to construct a system comprising both fibres and sacrificial microparticles. Polycaprolactone (PCL) and polyethylene glycol were respectively used as bulk and sacrificial biomaterials, leading to a bi-layered PCL scaffold which presented not only a depth-dependent fibre orientation similar to natural cartilage, but also mechanical features and porosity compatible with cartilage TE approaches. In fact, cell viability studies confirmed the biocompatibility of the scaffold and its ability to guarantee suitable cell adhesion, proliferation and migration throughout the 3D anisotropic fibrous network. Additionally, likewise the natural anisotropic cartilage, the PCL scaffold was capable of inducing oriented cell-material interactions since the morphology, alignment and density of the chondrocytes changed relatively to the specific topographic cues of each electrospun layer.publishe

    Not AvailableFortification of mince with PUFA-containing oil is an innovative area in product development. In this study, functional sausages were developed from Rohu mince with different concentrations of cod liver oil (CLO) and evaluated for their physiochemical and fatty acid compositions. Fortification of mince sausage with 4% CLO showed highest gel strength (323.58 g.cm) to the product. The CLO product had a higher n-3/n-6 ratio (1.79–3.65 versus 1.19 in control). The electrophoretic pattern of proteins showed the polymerization of proteins in the presence of CLO. The scanning electron microscopy revealed fine texture, absence of more voids, and homogenous structure in 4% CLO-fortified sausages. Hardness values are improved by the addition of CLO with a positive whiteness index and showed better sensory scores during the study period. Therefore, fortification of mince sausages with CLO could improve the health benefits by providing the optimal concentration of essential fatty acids along with good consumer acceptance.Not Availabl
