Comparison of Growth Performance of Goat Kids under Supplementation with Different Probiotics
This study was conducted to assess the comparative growth performance of goat kids supplemented with yeast as individual
probiotic and yeast based combined probiotic preparation. Fifteen male crossbred Malabari goat kids of three months age and
having body weights in the range of 8.5 kg to 10.5 kg were selected, dewormed and divided randomly into three treatment groups
each having 5 animals (Average body weight of each group being 9.5-9.6 kg). The first group of goats (T1) was kept as control
and was not supplemented with any probiotics. The second group of goats (T2) was supplemented with yeast, Saccharomyces
cerevisiae while the third group (T3) was supplemented with a Saccharomyces cerevisiae based combined probiotic containing
Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Saccharomyces boulardii, Lactobacillus acidophilus and Propionibacterium freudenreichii. The
final body weights of both the probiotic supplemented kids (T2 and T3) were significantly (P<0.05) higher than unsupplemented
kids in control (T1) group. The body weight among both the yeast (T2) and Saccharomyces cerevisiae based combined probiotic
supplemented groups also differed significantly (P<0.05). Similarly, goat kids fed Saccharomyces cerevisiae based combined
probiotic preparation had higher average daily weight gain over individual yeast fed and control goats
Gender Mainstreaming and Impact of Self Help Groups in Marine Fisheries Sector
Fisheries sector provides employment to over 12 million people
and plays a paramount role in Indian economy. Women
constitute nearly half of the population and one third of the
labour force. Though womenтАЩs role in Indian marine fisheries
sector with a coast line of 8129 km is very prominent, there is
generally a gender bias in respect of their works and the
inequalities between men and women are observed in the social, cultural and
economic lives. The development and empowerment of weaker sections and
gender mainstreaming in the Indian fisheries sector in a broader visualization will
be materialized to a substantial extent with poverty eradication programmers
through the transparent media namely Self Help Groups (SHGs). However an indepth
analysis of the impact of SHGs in bringing out gender mainstreaming was
lacking in the present scenario of Indian marine fisheries sector. Integrating
gender perspective in SHG ventures in marine fisheries sector is inevitable because
the gender mainstreaming approach advances gender equity and equality in the
fisheries fabric of the society

Women SHGs in the Midst of Covid 19 Pandemic: A Cautionary Glimpse on a Transition in Kerala Fisheries
A study was conducted on the impact of Covid 19 pandemic among selected microenterprises of womenтАЩs Self Help Groups (SHGs) in marine fisheries sector in Kerala State. Their level of performance and extent of empowerment were assessed through appropriate indices of measurement based on the data from SHGs of 16 different conspicuous fishery based micro enterprises in Kerala state. The gender analysis and economic feasibility analysis based on personal interview and focus group interaction meetings with members of SHGs were undertaken. The male and female counterparts of the families of respondents were separately interviewed to assess the gender mainstreaming impact in terms of equity and equality to access and control over the resources, participation profile, decision making, gender need analysis etc
