    Summing Up All Genus Free Energy of ABJM Matrix Model

    The localization technique allows us to compute the free energy of the U(N)_k x U(N)_{-k} Chern-Simons-matter theory dual to type IIA strings on AdS_4 x CP^3 from weak to strong 't Hooft coupling \lambda = N / k at finite N, as demonstrated by Drukker, Marino, and Putrov. In this note we study further the free energy at large 't Hooft coupling with the aim of testing AdS/CFT at the quantum gravity level and, in particular, sum up all the 1/N corrections, apart from the worldsheet instanton contributions.     Aplastic anemia successfully treated with rituximab: The possible role of aplastic anemia-associated autoantibodies as a marker for response

    金沢大学医薬保健研究域医学系A 1-yr-old Japanese male infant developed hepatitis-associated aplastic anemia (AA), and anti-thymocyte globulin (ATG) plus cyclosporine A (CsA) was administered without any appreciable effects. Laboratory examination of the patient\u27s serum obtained before therapy revealed various autoantibodies, such as PA-IgG, anti-platelets, anti-single-stranded DNA (ssDNA), and anti-double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) antibodies (Abs) in addition to anti-DRS-1 Abs and anti-moesin Abs, both of which are known to be detectable in approximately 40% of all patients presenting with AA. He was therefore treated with 17.5mg/kg/d rituximab 5.5months after ATG/CsA therapy. The same rituximab therapy was repeated three times once a month thereafter. His neutrophil counts started to increase 50d after the first rituximab therapy and he achieved a complete remission at 16months after the last rituximab administration. All of the autoantibodies including anti-ssDNA, dsDNA, DRS-1, and moesin became undetectable when he attained the remission. Anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody therapy may be effective in a subset of patients with AA characterized by the presence of autoantibodies. © 2011 John Wiley & Sons A/S

    Vulnerable carotid arterial plaque causing repeated ischemic stroke can be detected with B-mode ultrasonography as a mobile component: Jellyfish sign

    Mobile plaque is associated with increased risk of ischemic stroke, but definitions have remained unclear. We have previously reported that carotid ultrasonography can detect the mobile component of the carotid plaque surface, which rises and falls in a manner inconsistent with arterial pulsatile wall motion (Jellyfish sign). However, clinical and pathological features of Jellyfish sign remain unclear. The subjects comprised of 165 patients with carotid plaque and degree of area stenosis >= 50% on ultrasonography. Using magnetic resonance imaging, we quantified intraplaque hemorrhage (IPH) and defined ischemic stroke in each patient. Fifteen surgical specimens were obtained by carotid endarterectomy, and pathological features (area of fibrous cap and intraplaque atheromatous lesion) were compared with ultrasonographic plaque surface movement rate. Carotid plaques with IPH were seen in 78 cases, with Jellyfish sign in 31 cases. Jellyfish sign was not detected in patients without IPH. In these 15 patients, the fibrous cap covered the atheromatous lesion, and cap thickness correlated negatively with Jellyfish-positive plaque surface movement rate. Kaplan-Meier and Cox multiple regression analysis demonstrated that the most important predictor of ischemic stroke during follow-up is Jellyfish sign, not IPH. Stroke events in patients with Jellyfish sign repeated within a short interval after diagnosis. Jellyfish sign on ultrasonography is a sign of high-risk plaque vulnerability, suggesting rupture of the fibrous cap associated with the release of thrombogenic factors into the arterial lumen, and resulting in repeated ischemic stroke during a short interval after diagnosis

    Enhanced growth and lipid productivity by living Chlorella sorokiniana immobilized in Ca-alginate beads

    The bottleneck for the production of biofuels from microalgae consists on costly harvesting processes and low lipid production, immobilization technology could play a part on making the production of biofuels more feasible. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of alginate immobilization on the growth and lipid productivity of the microalgae Chlorella sorokiniana , so far, the main focus of immobilization technology has been its use for wastewater treatment and nutrient removal from effluents. The microalgae Chlorella sorokiniana was cultured in both free and immobilized forms under optimal autotrophic growth conditions. Microalgae were immobilized in calcium alginate beads generated by mixing algal cells with a sodium alginate solution, followed by extrusion into a CaCl _2 solution. The results obtained in this study showed that the growth of the microalgae immobilized in alginate beads, was enhanced and achieved a dry cell weight 1.4-fold higher than that of a free cell culture, a higher light transmittance was also achieved in the alginate immobilized culture, and the lipid productivity was increased from 54.21 ± 2.48 mg l ^−1 d in the free cell culture to 82.22 ± 8.48 mg l ^−1 d in the immobilized culture. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of immobilization technology for promoting growth and lipid productivity in the microalgae Chlorella sorokiniana

    Concentration of Lipase from Aspergillus oryzae Expressing Fusarium heterosporum by Nanofiltration to Enhance Transesterification

    Nanofiltration membrane separation is an energy-saving technology that was used in this study to concentrate extracellular lipase and increase its total activity for biodiesel production. Lipase was produced by recombinant Aspergillus oryzae expressing Fusarium heterosporum lipase (FHL). A sulfonated polyethersulfone nanofiltration membrane, NTR-7410, with a molecular weight cut-off of 3 kDa was used for the separation, because recombinant lipase has a molecular weight of approximately 20 kDa, which differs from commercial lipase at around 30 kDa for Callera(TM) Trans L (CalT). After concentration via nanofiltration, recombinant lipase achieved a 96.8% yield of fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) from unrefined palm oil, compared to 50.2% for CalT in 24 h. Meanwhile, the initial lipase activity (32.6 U/mL) of recombinant lipase was similar to that of CalT. The composition of FAME produced from recombinant concentrated lipase, i.e., C14:1, C16:0, C18:0, C18:1 cis, and C18:2 cis were 0.79%, 34.46%, 5.41%, 45.90%, and 12.46%, respectively, after transesterification. This FAME composition, even after being subjected to nanofiltration, was not significantly different from that produced from CalT.
