Critical Velocity for Vortex Shedding in a Bose-Einstein Condensate
We present measurements of the critical velocity for vortex shedding in a
highly oblate Bose-Einstein condensate with a moving repulsive Gaussian laser
beam. As a function of the barrier height , the critical velocity
shows a dip structure having a minimum at , where is
the chemical potential of the condensate. At fixed , we
observe that the ratio of to the speed of sound monotonically
increases for decreasing , where is the beam width and
is the condensate healing length. The measured upper bound for
is about 0.4, which is in good agreement with theoretical predictions for a
two-dimensional superflow past a circular cylinder. We explain our results with
the density reduction effect of the soft boundary of the Gaussian obstacle,

Relaxation of superfluid turbulence in highly oblate Bose-Einstein condensates
We investigate thermal relaxation of superfluid turbulence in a highly oblate
Bose-Einstein condensate. We generate turbulent flow in the condensate by
sweeping the center region of the condensate with a repulsive optical
potential. The turbulent condensate shows a spatially disordered distribution
of quantized vortices and the vortex number of the condensate exhibits
nonexponential decay behavior which we attribute to the vortex pair
annihilation. The vortex-antivortex collisions in the condensate are identified
with crescent-shaped, coalesced vortex cores. We observe that the
nonexponential decay of the vortex number is quantitatively well described by a
rate equation consisting of one-body and two-body decay terms. In our
measurement, we find that the local two-body decay rate is closely proportional

VALIDATION OF OPTIMALLY DESIGNED STATOR-PROPELLER SYSTEM BY EFD AND CFD
The development of energy-saving devices to lower the energy efficiency design index (EEDI) of ships has been actively researched worldwide. One such device is an asymmetric pre-swirl stator, which helps to improve the propulsion efficiency by recovering the rotational energy generated during propeller rotation. Determining the pitch angle is the most important factor in the design of an efficient asymmetric pre-swirl stator. To optimize the pitch angle of an asymmetric pre-swirl stator, this study deals with potential-flow, computational fluid dynamics, and model tests. The model delivered power at a design speed of 24 kt was compared by changing the pitch angle by ±2° with respect to the reference angle designed using a potential-flow program. The commercial code Star-CCM+ was used for the numerical analysis, and the model was also tested in a towing tank at Pusan National University. This study proposes an effective method for determining and verifying the optimal pitch angle of an asymmetric pre-swirl stator
In Vitro Chemosensitivity Using the Histoculture Drug Response Assay in Human Epithelial Ovarian Cancer
The choice of chemotherapeutic drugs to treat patients with epithelial ovarian cancer has not depended on individual patient characteristics. We have investigated the correlation between in vitro chemosensitivity, as determined by the histoculture drug response assay (HDRA), and clinical responses in epithelial ovarian cancer. Fresh tissue samples were obtained from 79 patients with epithelial
ovarian cancer. The sensitivity of these samples to 11 chemotherapeutic agents was tested using the HDRA method according to established methods, and we analyzed the results retrospectively. HDRA showed that they were more chemosensitive to carboplatin, topotecan and belotecan, with inhibition rates of 49.2%, 44.7%, and 39.7%, respectively, than to cisplatin, the traditional drug of choice in epithelial ovarian cancer. Among the 37 patients with FIGO stage Ⅲ/Ⅳ serous adenocarcinoma
who were receiving carboplatin combined with paclitaxel, those with carboplatin-sensitive samples on HDRA had a significantly longer median disease-free interval than patients with carboplatin-
resistant samples (23.2 vs. 13.8 months, p<0.05), but median overall survival did not differ significantly
(60.4 vs. 37.3 months, p=0.621). In conclusion, this study indicates that HDRA could provide useful information for designing individual treatment strategies in patients with epithelial ovarian cancer
Malnutrition and Associated Factors with Nutritional Status among Orphan Children: An Evidence-Based Study from Nepal
Background: Malnutrition is a common public health problem among children in low and middle-income developing countries. Orphan's children are vulnerable and neglected groups in society and are more prone to malnutrition. The study aims to identify the prevalence of underweight, stunting, thinness, and factors associated with nutritional status among orphan children.
Methods: Quantitative method & analytical cross-sectional research design were used to assess the nutritional status and its associated factors among orphan children in Pokhara Valley, Nepal. The sample size of 160 children was obtained by a simple random technique. The semi-structured questionnaire, digital bathroom scale, stadiometer was used as the data collection technique. Data management and analysis were done from Epi-info, SPSS 25 version, and WHO Anthro plus.
Findings: The majority of children were malnourished (80.6%) with the prevalence of stunting (55.1%), thinness (13.8%), and overweight (6.9%). Prevalence of underweight, stunting, and thinness was high among the boys (85.5%, 26.3%, and 15.8%), but overweight was more prevalent among the girls (7.1%). Ethnicity, sex, age, stay duration in an orphanage, and education of caregivers was associated with the nutritional status of orphan children (p <0.05). Non-privileged children and children below 11 years were more prone to malnutrition.
Conclusion: Malnutrition is highly prevalent in orphan children and needs to be addressed. There is still limited study available on the nutritional status of orphan children in Nepal. Nutritional status should be monitored regularly for early identification and timely intervention of malnutrition to promote the nutrition health status of orphan childre
