Energy-Efficient Non-Orthogonal Transmission under Reliability and Finite Blocklength Constraints
This paper investigates an energy-efficient non-orthogonal transmission
design problem for two downlink receivers that have strict reliability and
finite blocklength (latency) constraints. The Shannon capacity formula widely
used in traditional designs needs the assumption of infinite blocklength and
thus is no longer appropriate. We adopt the newly finite blocklength coding
capacity formula for explicitly specifying the trade-off between reliability
and code blocklength. However, conventional successive interference
cancellation (SIC) may become infeasible due to heterogeneous blocklengths. We
thus consider several scenarios with different channel conditions and
with/without SIC. By carefully examining the problem structure, we present in
closed-form the optimal power and code blocklength for energy-efficient
transmissions. Simulation results provide interesting insights into conditions
for which non-orthogonal transmission is more energy efficient than the

The Influence of Information Security Stress on Security Policy Compliance: A Protection Motivation Theory Perspective
The occurrence of security incidents will not only cause substantial loss to the enterprise but also serious damage to goodwill. An enterprise has to formulate and implement effective security policies to reduce the occurrence of security incidents. However, the process of promoting the security policy will put stress on employees. The focus of this paper is whether these pressures will affect staff\u27s compliance with the security policies based on the protection motivation theory. This study uses a survey method and 324 responses are collected. The results show that security task stress and security job stress have a significant impact on the formation of security role stress. Security role stress impacts threat and coping appraisals leading to security compliance
Examining The Factors That Affect ERP Assimilation
The aim of this study is to identify the factors that influence the assimilation of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems in the post-implementation stage. Building on organizational information processing theory (OIPT) and absorptive capacity (AC), we propose an integrated model, which examines the relationship among organizational fit, absorptive capacity, environmental uncertainty, and ERP assimilation. Based on the survey data from 98 firms that have implemented ERP, most of the proposed hypotheses were supported, showing that initial fit, potential AC, realized AC, and heterogeneity jointly affect ERP assimilation. Task uncertainty (hostility and heterogeneity) negatively moderates the relationship between initial fit and ERP assimilation. The implications for both theory and practice are discussed

Increased ATP generation in the host cell is required for efficient vaccinia virus production
To search for cellular genes up-regulated by vaccinia virus (VV) infection, differential display-reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (ddRT-PCR) assays were used to examine the expression of mRNAs from mock-infected and VV-infected HeLa cells. Two mitochondrial genes for proteins that are part of the electron transport chain that generates ATP, ND4 and CO II, were up-regulated after VV infection. Up-regulation of ND4 level by VV infection was confirmed by Western blotting analysis. Up-regulation of ND4 was reduced by the MAPK inhibitor, apigenin, which has been demonstrated elsewhere to inhibit VV replication. The induction of ND4 expression occurred after viral DNA replication since ara C, an inhibitor of poxviral DNA replication, could block this induction. ATP production was increased in the host cells after VV infection. Moreover, 4.5 μM oligomycin, an inhibitor of ATP production, reduced the ATP level 13 hr after virus infection to that of mock-infected cells and inhibited viral protein expression and virus production, suggesting that increased ATP production is required for efficient VV production. Our results further suggest that induction of ND4 expression is through a Bcl-2 independent pathway
Field and intensity correlations in amplifying random media
We study local and nonlocal correlations of light transmitted through active
random media. The conventional approach results in divergence of ensemble
averaged correlation functions due to existence of lasing realizations. We
introduce conditional average for correlation functions by omitting the
divergent realizations. Our numerical simulation reveals that amplification
does not affect local spatial correlation. The nonlocal intensity correlations
are strongly magnified due to selective enhancement of the contributions from
long propagation paths. We also show that by increasing gain, the average mode
linewidth can be made smaller than the average mode spacing. This implies that
light transport through a diffusive random system with gain could exhibit some
similarities to that through a localized passive system, owing to dominant
influence of the resonant modes with narrow width.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
Numerical study of light correlations in a random medium close to Anderson localization threshold
We applied finite difference time domain (FDTD) algorithm to the study of
field and intensity correlations in random media. Close to the onset of
Anderson localization, we observe deviations of the correlation functions, in
both shape and magnitude, from those predicted by the diffusion theory.
