The Experimental Study on Lung Transplantation

Previous studies in the laboratory have been shown that homografts of the lung in canine can survive extended period of time, if methotrexate is given to the recipient animal, Several homografts survive more than a month. A series of fifty unrelated mongrel pairs have been subjected to, homotransplantation of the left lung. In each case the donor lung was stored in vitro 2 to 12 hours before placement in the recipient animal. The lung was perfusated with 5% dextrose, 3.6% PVP and plasma at 4°C by infusion pump and was ventilated with room air by respirator. It has been eluciated by histologic and electromicroscopic study including autopsy and survival rate that the safety storage period had been within 4 to 6 hours to prevent a fine change on donor lung due to storages

Redox flow batteries are suitable for large-capacity energy storage in principle and for applications in combination with renewable energy. However, thorough cost reduction is a challenge for their full-scale introduction. Therefore, we have developed a titanium (Ti) -manganese (Mn) electrolyte as an inexpensive electrolyte. In the electrolyte development, we found that the presence of Ti ions (IV) in the Mn electrolyte suppressed the disproportionation reaction of Mn ions (III) and the particle growth of MnO₂ precipitation. In the electrode development, we found carbon electrode materials with excellent oxidation durability and reactivity. We optimized the surface treatment conditions of the carbon electrode to obtain a high energy-efficiency of 83.2% in Ti-Mn electrolyte. Then, we confirmed that 10 kW-class cells using the developed material could provide long-term stable charge-discharge for more than 140 cycles at an energy density of more than 14 kWh/m³.論

Variations in Rectal Volumes and Dosimetry Values Including NTCP due to Interfractional Variability When Administering 2D-Based IG-IMRT for Prostate Cancer

We estimated variations in rectal volumes and dosimetry values including NTCP with interfractional motion during prostate IG-IMRT. Rectal volumes, DVH parameters, and NTCPs of 20 patients were analyzed. For this patient population, the median (range) volume on the initial plan for the rectum was 45.6 cc (31.3–82.0), showing on-treatment spread around the initial prediction based on the initial plan. DVH parameters of on-treatment CBCT analyses showed systematic regularity shift from the prediction based on the initial plan. Using the Lyman-Kutcher-Burman model, NTCPs of predicted late rectal bleeding toxicity of rectal grade ≥ 2 (RTOG) and the QUANTEC update rectal toxicity for the prediction based on the initial plan were 0.09% (0.02–0.24) and 0.02% (0.00–0.07), respectively, with NTCPs from on-treatment CBCT analyses being 0.35% (0.01–6.16) and 0.12% (0.00–4.11), respectively. Using the relative seriality model, for grade ≥ 2 bleeding rectal toxicity, NTCP of the prediction based on the initial plan was 0.64% (0.15–1.22) versus 1.48% (0.18–7.66) for on-treatment CBCT analysis. Interfraction variations in rectal volumes occur in all patients due to physiological changes. Thus, rectal assessment during 2D-based IG-IMRT using NTCP models has the potential to provide useful and practical dosimetric verification

Multiple myeloma relapse in the irradiated liver : Involvement of hepatocyte growth factor akin to that after hepatocyte transplantation

AbstractWe described a rare case of multiple myeloma in a 60-year-old man, in whom relapse limited to the irradiated area in the left lobe of the liver developed following radiotherapy for lesions in 11th and 12th thoracic spines. Immunohistochemical analysis revealed expression of hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) and hepatocyte growth factor receptor (c-Met) in the hepatocytes in the irradiated area of the liver. We speculate that the malignant plasma cells might have proliferated in response to local increase of HGF production in the irradiated liver. The role of HGF in the extraosseous spread of multiple myeloma and also under the experimental condition of hepatic transplantation is discussed.</jats:p
