    Net-Mediated Pubic Opinion Analysis of China’s Real Estate

    With the development of Internet technology, the analysis of net-mediated public opinion based on text mining, has become increasingly concerned by the academic community in recent years. In this paper, we do research on net-mediated public opinion of China\u27s real estate in the second quarter of 2015empirically with the association rules, text tendency analysis and other technology of data mining and visualization. On the basis of the demonstration, a basic framework of net-mediated public opinion analysis is constructed. According to the analysis of this paper, the distribution and association of hot topics in this quarter were found, and the overall tendencies of the topics were reviewed, also some relevant policy recommendations were given

    Multidimensional Health Groups and Healthcare Utilization Among Elderly Chinese: Based on the 2014 CLHLS Dataset.

    Based on multidimensional health, we aimed to identify health groups among the elderly Chinese population, and examine its relationship with socio-demographic factors on healthcare utilization. Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey in 2014 was adopted. For 2981 participants aged ≥65 years, without missing any health indicators, latent class analysis was adopted to identify health groups. For 1974 participants with complete information, the two-part model was used to assess how health groups and socio-demographic characteristics influence the outpatient and inpatient expenditure. Four health groups were identified and labeled as "Lacking Socialization" (10.4%), "High Comorbidity" (16.7%), "Severe Disability" (7.8%), and "Relative Health" (65.1%). Compared with the relative health group, the lacking socialization group cost higher inpatient expenditure ( p = 0.02). Those in the high comorbidity and severe disability groups were more likely to use healthcare services and cost higher outpatient expenditure ( p < 0.01 for all). The effects of socio-demographic factors were also discussed. The findings enhanced our understanding of the heterogeneity of multidimensional health status and complex healthcare demands in the elderly Chinese population. Moreover, it is valuable for improving the allocation of healthcare resource targeted for different groups of the ageing population

    Comparison of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy running models between outsourcing cooperation and rental cooperation conducted in Taiwan

    Background/PurposeWe conducted a retrospective study to compare the cost and effectiveness between two different running models for extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (SWL), including the outsourcing cooperation model (OC) and the rental cooperation model (RC).MethodsBetween January 1999 and December 2005, we implemented OC for the SWL, and from January 2006 to October 2011, RC was utilized. With OC, the cooperative company provided a machine and shared a variable payment with the hospital, according to treatment sessions. With RC, the cooperative company provided a machine and received a fixed rent from the hospital. We calculated the cost of each treatment session, and evaluated the break-even point to estimate the lowest number of treatment sessions to make the balance between revenue and cost every month. Effectiveness parameters, including the stone-free rate, the retreatment rate, the rate of additional procedures and complications, were evaluated.ResultsCompared with OC there were significantly less treatment sessions for RC every month (42.6±7.8 vs. 36.8±6.5, p=0.01). The cost of each treatment session was significantly higher for OC than for RC (751.6±20.0 USD vs. 684.7±16.7 USD, p=0.01). The break-even point for the hospital was 27.5 treatment sessions/month for OC, when the hospital obtained 40% of the payment, and it could be reduced if the hospital got a greater percentage. The break-even point for the hospital was 27.3 treatment sessions/month for RC. No significant differences were noticed for the stone-free rate, the retreatment rate, the rate of additional procedures and complications.ConclusionOur study revealed that RC had a lower cost for every treatment session, and fewer treatment sessions of SWL/month than OC. The study might provide a managerial implication for healthcare organization managers, when they face a situation of high price equipment investment

    Incorporating gene co-expression network in identification of cancer prognosis markers

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Extensive biomedical studies have shown that clinical and environmental risk factors may not have sufficient predictive power for cancer prognosis. The development of high-throughput profiling technologies makes it possible to survey the whole genome and search for genomic markers with predictive power. Many existing studies assume the interchangeability of gene effects and ignore the coordination among them.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>We adopt the weighted co-expression network to describe the interplay among genes. Although there are several different ways of defining gene networks, the weighted co-expression network may be preferred because of its computational simplicity, satisfactory empirical performance, and because it does not demand additional biological experiments. For cancer prognosis studies with gene expression measurements, we propose a new marker selection method that can properly incorporate the network connectivity of genes. We analyze six prognosis studies on breast cancer and lymphoma. We find that the proposed approach can identify genes that are significantly different from those using alternatives. We search published literature and find that genes identified using the proposed approach are biologically meaningful. In addition, they have better prediction performance and reproducibility than genes identified using alternatives.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>The network contains important information on the functionality of genes. Incorporating the network structure can improve cancer marker identification.</p

    A generalized DEMATEL theory with a shrinkage coefficient for an indirect relation matrix

    In this paper, a novel decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) theory with a shrinkage coefficient of indirect relation matrix is proposed, and a useful validity index, called Liu’s validity index, is also proposed for evaluating the performance of any DEMATEL model. If the shrinkage coefficient of an indirect relation matrix is equal to 1, then this new theory is identical to the traditional theory; in other words, it is a generalization of the traditional theory. Furthermore, the indirect relation is always considerably greater than the direct one in traditional DEMATEL theory, which is unreasonable and unfair because it overemphasizes the influence of the indirect relation. We prove in this paper that if the shrinkage coefficient is equal to 0.5, then the indirect relation is less than its direct relation. Because the shrinkage coefficient belongs to [0.5, 1], according to Liu’s validity index, we can find a more appropriate shrinkage coefficient to obtain a more efficient DEMATEL method. Some crucial properties of this new theory are discussed, and a simple example is provided to illustrate the advantages of the proposed theory
