HDIdx: High-Dimensional Indexing for Efficient Approximate Nearest Neighbor Search

    Get PDF
Fast Nearest Neighbor (NN) search is a fundamental challenge in large-scale data processing and analytics, particularly for analyzing multimedia contents which are often of high dimensionality. Instead of using exact NN search, extensive research efforts have been focusing on approximate NN search algorithms. In this work, we present "HDIdx", an efficient high-dimensional indexing library for fast approximate NN search, which is open-source and written in Python. It offers a family of state-of-the-art algorithms that convert input high-dimensional vectors into compact binary codes, making them very efficient and scalable for NN search with very low space complexity

BH3 mimetic ABT-737 sensitizes colorectal cancer cells to ixazomib through MCL-1 downregulation and autophagy inhibition.

The proteasome inhibitor MLN9708 is an orally administered drug that is hydrolyzed into its active form, MLN2238 (ixazomib). Compared with Bortezomib, MLN2238 has a shorter proteasome dissociation half-life and a lower incidence and severity of peripheral neuropathy, which makes it an attractive candidate for colorectal cancer treatment. In the present study, we observed that MLN2238 induced autophagy, as evidenced by conversion of the autophagosomal marker LC3 from LC3I to LC3II, in colorectal cancer cell lines. Mcl-1, an anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 family protein, was markedly elevated after treating a colorectal cancer cell line with MLN2238. We proved that inhibiting Mcl-1 expression enhances MLN2238 induced apoptosis and negatively regulates autophagy. Co-administration of BH3 mimetic ABT-737 with MLN2238 synergistically kills colorectal cancer cells through MCL-1 neutralization and autophagy inhibition. Furthermore, the synergistic killing effect of the combination therapy is correlated with P53 status in colorectal cancer. These data highlight that the combination of ABT-737 with MLN9708 is a promising therapeutic strategy for human colorectal cancer

1S0 pairing correlation in symmetric nuclear matter with Debye screening effects

AbstractThe 1S0 pairing of symmetric nuclear matter is discussed in the framework of relativistic nuclear theory with Dyson–Schwinger equations (DSEs). The in-medium nucleon and meson propagators are treated in a more self-consistent way through meson polarizations. The screening effects on mesons due to in-medium nucleon excitation are found to reduce the 1S0 pairing gap and shift remarkably the gap peak to low density region

Acquisition of non-canonical word orders in Mandarin Chinese

To better understand Mandarin-speaking children’s acquisition of non-canonical word orders, we tested comprehension and production of Mandarin non-canonical active ba-construction and passive bei-construction, in comparison with canonical active SVO sentences among 180 children between three and 6 years of age. Our results showed that children had more difficulties with bei-construction compared to SVO sentences in both comprehension and production, but early problems of ba-construction only lied in production. We discussed these patterns in connection with two accounts of language acquisition which attribute language development to the maturation of grammar or to the exposure to the input, respectively
