The systematics of some Antarctic sea-stars (asteroids)

The material, comprising 363 specimens, was collected during the summers of 1959 and 1960, by the New Zealand Oceanographic Institute, from 29 stations in the Ross Sea. Fourteen genera are included, and a total of 17 species are described, with a summary of variations and the geographic and bathymetric ranges. Peribolaster powelli nov. sp. is described. Except for 3 species, all have been previously recorded from the Ross Sea and the majority are circumpolar in distribution. Diagnoses to families and southern genera are given

Revision of the Southern Hemisphere Asteroidea Order Paxillosida

Collections, mainly from Antarctic and Subantarctic waters from the basis for the revision of the Southern Hemisphere representatives of the Order Paxillosida (Asteroidea). One new family, the family Pentopliidae, with one species, Pentoplia felli, characterised by the five very large, actinal, “grab-like” pedicellariae, is described here as well as a further 3 new genera and 13 new species. Many new distribution records, particularly for Antarctic and Subantarctic areas are established. There are keys for all taxa and in most cases complete descriptions of species are given. Distribution of species is discussed throughout the text
