Opaluch and Just reported the top 20 departments in pages per faculty of articles in the American Journal of Agricultural Economics for the five year period 1968-1972. To determine how much has changed and how much has not during the intervening two decades, the analysis was repeated for the five year period 1988-1992. Some things seem not to change. University of California, Berkeley, remains at the pinnacle twenty years later. And 13 of the top 20 departments two decades ago, remain there during the 1988-1992 period. But seven did change, and the most notable aspect is that the number of Northeast departments in the top 20 rose from two to five.Teaching/Communication/Extension/Profession,

This thesis aims to study the different social expectations of University of Kansas sorority women and the evolution of those social mores over time. Very little study on this topic has been done previously. Beth Bailey’s Sex in the Heartland is one of the few works that discusses the Associated Women Students in relation to the sexual revolution at KU but does not include extensive discussion of sorority women’s roles. From its founding in 1948 until its reinvention in 1970, the Associated Women Students (AWS) was the authority for University of Kansas (KU) women regarding all regulations and social events that placed desirability and emphasis a more socially conservative college woman. Integral to these operations were KU sorority women, who were significantly involved within the AWS and strong believers in social conservatism. Sororities utilized the infrastructure of the AWS to provide consistent and effective resistance to changes in gender roles and sexual mores for women. Historically, the years 1948-1975 at the University of Kansas are significant because it shows a regional version of change that reflects national trends

San Filippo v. Bongiovanni: The Public Concern Criteria and the Scope of the Modern Petition Right

If the person on the street were asked to name a right guar- anteed to all Americans by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution, freedom of speech would likely come quickly to mind, along with the concomitant right of free press. The rights to practice one\u27s religion and peaceably assemble, even the judicially created right of free association might follow closely behind. Few people, how- ever, would mention the right of the people.., to petition the government for redress of grievances. \u27 Fewer still would be able to give a good definition of petitioning, or to describe the types of activities protected by the right. One obvious reason for the general lack of awareness of the existence and contours of the petition right is the almost total absence of judicial scrutiny directed at the Petition Clause in the years since the Framers included it in the First Amendment as a separate textual guarantee. This judicial silent treatment stands in stark contrast to the eager and exacting scrutiny applied to the other First Amendment guarantees such as free speech, press, and religion. The substance and scope of these rights have been alternately reduced and expanded over time as the rights themselves are continuously redefined by the courts to fit the sensibilities of each generation. The petition right, deprived of the nuance and repetition-engendered familiarity provided by this sort of natural, ongoing evolution, arrives into the late twentieth century somewhat awkwardly, a little-understood visitor from another age
