Earlier when the internet was not there, rumours were spread by word of mouth technique but in this era of technology where we have social networking sites like twitter, rumours can be spread easily and quickly and a situation of panic can arise. Twitter is an American online news and social networking service on which users finds the latest news and world events faster. It is used for communication, interaction withpeople, announcement of event etc. from breaking news to sports, politics and everyday interests, one can find this service very addictive and an easy way to gather information about a certain event. Businesses can also use it to build their own brands and for marketing. But the founders of twitter like jack Dorsey forgot one thing that every coin has two sides. While twitter is a great way to interact with the masses, it is also a home of spammers. Spamming is a very common thing on twitter. Spammers create twitter accounts to perform a variety of tasks like posting links with unrelated tweets and the speed at which these fake and malicious misinformation spread on twitter in a real-time emergencies always causing a huge flood of tweets on twitter. In this paper, we demonstrated an analytical study of those rumoured tweets by twitter data. Using some of the rumoured tweets posted during the Chennai flood in 2015 and some non-rumoured tweets, we trained a classifier. The ability to track rumours and predict their outcomes have many applications for journalists, emergency services, and thereforehelp in minimizing the impact of false and fake information on this twitter platform

The world that we are living in today, Rumours outrace the truth every single time. Lack of true information can make a big lie true online because people are interesting in unusual claims with no evidence to prove and that’s how a lie can be circulated around the world through social media. Twitter was created as a tool for both business and personal use. Even by having a 140 characters limit in a single tweet, twitter is today’s tesla tower (platform) for all kinds of conversations including debates about the government, politics, news and so on. But twitter has some negative powers also. It is also a platform where some quirky and sadistic people start a rumour just to create a situation of panic or to get a reaction. And as a normal human behaviour, we all believe in something if it keeps on spreading and coming back to us over and over again. The problem with social media networking services like twitter is that it is addictive and youth tends to spend most of their time on these platforms just to connect with someone but mostly got influenced by the biased opinions about a certain individual or an event and made by their own judgement on the basis of all the lies they keep seeing on social media. It is going on ever since. You heard something about someone and you made a tweet about it and bam within two or three hours, your tweet is being retweeted by millions and a huge flood of those tweets made a headline in the news. That’s how easy it is today to mould the truth. Sure we got the access to almost everything but it is because of our choices and desires we are making the world suffer by a single lie. In this project, we tend to find the difference between the rumours and the true facts by finding the origin source of rumoured tweets by our classifier. We propose an algorithm by which we can track the origin and eliminate them by using the various modules. This project have many applications for news anchors, politicians etc. and it will help in eradicating the false news that can affect the society in a bad way
