Seasonal Study of Some Chemical Parameters in Daryabganj Lake, District Etah

In India, great regional differences are found in the topography, geology, climate etc. As a result of these differences, the limnological resources (lake, pond & reservoirs) are very unevenly distributed. The inland fisheries include, besides capture fishes of the lake, rivers and large bodies of waters, the culture fishery whose contribution to the dietary of man is of the highest importance. From the catch statistics of these waters, it becomes quite clear that fish production is low in comparison to those of other countries like China, Japan, Indonesia etc. The efforts for increasing fish production in inland waters are underway; however, any effort towards developing the fish resources requires intimate knowledge

Production of nuclei and antinuclei in pp and Pb-Pb collisions with ALICE at the LHC

We present first results on the production of nuclei and antinuclei such as (anti)deuterons, (anti)tritons, (anti)3He and (anti)4He in pp collisions at \s = 7 TeV and Pb-Pb collisions at \sNN = 2.76 TeV. These particles are identified using their energy loss (dE/dx) information in the Time Projection Chamber of the ALICE experiment. The Inner Tracking System gives a precise determination of the event vertex, by which primary and secondary particles are separated. The high statistics of over 360 million events for pp and 16 million events for Pb-Pb collisions give a significant number of light nuclei and antinuclei (Pb-Pb collisions: \sim30,000 anti-deuterons(dˉ\bar{d}) and \sim4 anti-alpha(4Heˉ\bar{^4He})). The predictions of various particle ratios from the THERMUS model is also discussed.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures, parallel talk at Quark Matter 2011, May 23rd-28th 2011, Annecy, Franc

Phylogenetic Study of Indian Collembolan: an Evaluation in Uttar Pradesh

Springtails (Collembola) from the largest of the three lineages of modern hexapods that are no longer considered insects (the other two are the Protura and Diplura). Although the three orders are sometimes grouped together in a class called Entognatha because they have internal mouthparts, they do not appear to be any more closely related to one another than they all are to insects, which have external mouthparts. Collembolans are omnivorous, free-living organisms that prefer moist conditions. They do not directly engage in the decomposition of organic matter but contribute to it indirectly through the fragmentation of organic matter and the control of soil microbial communities. The word "Collembola" is from the ancient Greek "Glue" and "Peg"; this name was given due to the existence of the collophore, which was previously thought to stick to surfaces in order to stabilize the insect. It is necessary to study the phylogeny of collembolans to explore evolutionary status

Impact of Salt Stress on Carbohydrate Metabolism in Cicer Arietinum L.

Cereals are used as an important food of Indian diet. They are an important source of carbohydrates and proteins, so they are essential to a predominant diet. Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is one of the important crops of India, mainly grown for their seeds which contain 20.6% protein, 2.2% fat and 61.2% carbohydrate, ranking next to wheat and barley both in acreage and in the production of grain. The major portion of crop production is consumed by the people in many forms like Dal, Besan, Crushed or whole grain, boiled or roasted gram or in sweet preparation. It is also used as a protein-rich diet for horses, and other cattle in the forms of soaked grain. Keeping the above views several Cicer varieties will be screened for their salt tolerance behaviour. Salt tolerant and salt susceptible variety will be selected for further comparative studies to expect that the findings of the present investigation would not only help with a better understanding of the mechanism of salt tolerant behaviour of Cicer at the physiological and biochemical levels and also suggest possibilities of selecting a variety suitable for salt stress condition
