A New Non-Abelian Topological Phase of Cold Fermi Gases in Anisotropic and Spin-Dependent Optical Lattices

To realize non-Abelian s-wave topological superfluid (TS) of cold Fermi gases, generally a Zeeman magnetic field larger than superfluid pairing gap is necessary. In this paper we find that using an anisotropic and spin-dependent optical lattice (ASDOL) to trap gases, a new non-Abelian TS phase appears, in contrast to an isotropic and spin-independent optical lattice. A characteristic of this new non-Abelian TS is that Zeeman magnetic field can be smaller than the superfluid pairing gap. By self-consistently solving pairing gap equation and considering the competition against normal state and phase separation, this new phase is also stable. Thus an ASDOL supplies a convenient route to realize TS. We also investigate edge states and the effects of a harmonic trap potential

Precision Measurement of M1 Optical Clock Transition in Ni12+

Highly charged ions (HCIs) have drawn significant interest in quantum metrology and in search for new physics. Among these, Ni12+ is considered as one of the most promising candidates for the next generation of HCI optical clocks, due to its two E1-forbidden transitions M1 and E2, which occur in the visible spectral range. In this work, we used the Shanghai-Wuhan Electron Beam Ion Trap to perform a high-precision measurement of the M1 transition wavelength. Our approach involved an improved calibration scheme for the spectra, utilizing auxiliary Ar+ lines for calibration and correction. Our final measured result of the M1 transition wavelength demonstrates a five-fold improvement in accuracy compared to our previous findings, reaching the sub-picometer level accuracy. In combination with our rigorous atomic-structure calculations to capture the electron correlations and relativistic effects, the quantum electrodynamic (QED) corrections were extracted. Moreover, comparing with an estimate of the one-electron QED contributions by using the GRASP2018 package, we found that the present experimental accuracy is high enough for testing the higher-order QED corrections for such a complex system with four electrons in the p subshell.Comment: 15 pages, 5 figure

Fusarium wilt caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense (Foc), is one of the most devastating diseases in bananas resulting in significant loss of Cavendish bananas production worldwide. Here we show the agronomic traits and the resistance of 'Guijiao 9' in the field trials from 2012 to 2017. And then we dissect and compare the transcriptome response from these two cultivars (cv. 'Guijiao 9' and cv. Williams) in an attempt to understand the molecular basis that contribute to the enhanced Foc tropical race 4 (Foc-TR4) resistance. 'Guijiao 9' is a Cavendish cultivar with strong resistance to Foc-TR4, which was reflected in a lower disease severity and incidence in glasshouse and field trails, when compared to the susceptible cultivar Williams. Gene expression profiles of 'Guijiao 9' and Williams were captured by performing RNA-Seq analysis on 16 biological samples collected over a six day period post inoculation with Foc-TR4. Transcriptional reprogramming in response to Foc-TR4 was detected in both genotypes but the response was more drastic in 'Guijiao 9' than in Williams. Specific genes involved in plant-pathogen interaction and defense signaling including MAPK, calcium, salicylic acid, jasmonic acid and ethylene pathways were analyzed and compared between 'Guijiao 9' and Williams. Genes associated with defense-related metabolites synthesis such as NB-LRR proteins, calmodulin-binding protein and phenylpropanoids biosynthesis genes were significantly up-regulated in 'Guijiao 9' resistant to Foc-TR4 infection. Taken together, this study highlights the important roles of plant hormone regulation and defense gene activation in mediating resistance in 'Guijiao 9'
