    AbstractA unicyclic graph is a graph whose number of edges is equal to the number of vertices. Guo Shu-Guang [S.G. Guo, The largest Laplacian spectral radius of unicyclic graph, Appl. Math. J. Chinese Univ. Ser. A. 16 (2) (2001) 131–135] determined the first four largest Laplacian spectral radii together with the corresponding graphs among all unicyclic graphs on n vertices. In this paper, we extend this ordering by determining the fifth to the ninth largest Laplacian spectral radii together with the corresponding graphs among all unicyclic graphs on n vertices

    General stationary charged black holes as charged particle accelerators

    We study the possibility of getting infinite energy in the center of mass frame of colliding charged particles in a general stationary charged black hole. For black holes with two-fold degenerate horizon, it is found that arbitrary high center-of-mass energy can be attained, provided that one of the particle has critical angular momentum or critical charge, and the remained parameters of particles and black holes satisfy certain restriction. For black holes with multiple-fold degenerate event horizons, the restriction is released. For non-degenerate black holes, the ultra-high center-of-mass is possible to be reached by invoking the multiple scattering mechanism. We obtain a condition for the existence of innermost stable circular orbit with critical angular momentum or charge on any-fold degenerate horizons, which is essential to get ultra-high center-of-mass energy without fine-tuning problem. We also discuss the proper time spending by the particle to reach the horizon and the duality between frame dragging effect and electromagnetic interaction.     A simulation data-driven design approach for rapid product optimization

    Traditional design optimization is an iterative process of design, simulation, and redesign, which requires extensive calculations and analysis. The designer needs to adjust and evaluate the design parameters manually and continually based on the simulation results until a satisfactory design is obtained. However, the expensive computational costs and large resource consumption of complex products hinder the wide application of simulation in industry. It is not an easy task to search the optimal design solution intelligently and efficiently. Therefore, a simulation data-driven design approach which combines dynamic simulation data mining and design optimization is proposed to achieve this purpose in this study. The dynamic simulation data mining algorithm—on-line sequential extreme learning machine with adaptive weights (WadaptiveOS-ELM)—is adopted to train the dynamic prediction model to effectively evaluate the merits of new design solutions in the optimization process. Meanwhile, the prediction model is updated incrementally by combining new “good” data set to reduce the modeling cost and improve the prediction accuracy. Furthermore, the improved heuristic optimization algorithm—adaptive and weighted center particle swarm optimization (AWCPSO)—is introduced to guide the design change direction intelligently to improve the search efficiency. In this way, the optimal design solution can be searched automatically with less actual simulation iterations and higher optimization efficiency, and thus supporting the rapid product optimization effectively. The experimental results demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed approach

    A framework for orchestrating secure and dynamic access of IoT services in multi-cloud environments

    IoT devices have complex requirements but their limitations in terms of storage, network, computing, data analytics, scalability and big data management require it to be used it with a technology like cloud computing. IoT backend with cloud computing can present new ways to offer services that are massively scalable, can be dynamically configured, and delivered on demand with largescale infrastructure resources. However, a single cloud infrastructure might be unable to deal with the increasing demand of cloud services in which hundreds of users might be accessing cloud resources, leading to a big data problem and the need for efficient frameworks to handle a large number of user requests for IoT services. These challenges require new functional elements and provisioning schemes. To this end, we propose the usage of multi-clouds with IoT which can optimize the user requirements by allowing them to choose best IoT services from many services hosted in various cloud platforms and provide them with more infrastructure and platform resources to meet their requirements. This paper presents a novel framework for dynamic and secure IoT services access across multi-clouds using cloud on-demand model. To facilitate multi-cloud collaboration, novel protocols are designed and implemented on cloud platforms. The various stages involved in the framework for allowing users access to IoT services in multi-clouds are service matchmaking (i.e. to choose the best service matching user requirements), authentication (i.e. a lightweight mechanism to authenticate users at runtime before granting them service access), and SLA management (including SLA negotiation, enforcement and monitoring). SLA management offers benefits like negotiating required service parameters, enforcing mechanisms to ensure that service execution in the external cloud is according to the agreed SLAs and monitoring to verify that the cloud provider complies with those SLAs. The detailed system design to establish secure multi-cloud collaboration has been presented. Moreover, the designed protocols are empirically implemented on two different clouds including OpenStack and Amazon AWS. Experiments indicate that proposed system is scalable, authentication protocols result only in a limited overhead compared to standard authentication protocols, and any SLA violation by a cloud provider could be recorded and reported back to the user.N/

    Assessing cross laminated timber (CLT) as an alternative material for mid-rise residential buildings in cold regions in China-A life-cycle assessment approach

    Timber building has gained more and more attention worldwide due to it being a generic renewable material and having low environmental impact. It is widely accepted that the use of timber may be able to reduce the embodied energy of a building. However, the development of timber buildings in China is not as rapid as in some other countries. This may be because of the limitations of building regulations and technological development. Several new policies have been or are being implemented in China in order to encourage the use of timber in building construction and this could lead to a revolutionary change in the building industry in China. This paper is the first one to examine the feasibility of using Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) as an alternative solution to concrete by means of a cradle-to-grave life-cycle assessment in China. A seven-storey reference concrete building in Xi'an was selected as a case study in comparison with a redesigned CLT building. Two cities in China, in cold and severe cold regions (Xi'an and Harbin), were selected for this research. The assessment includes three different stages of the life span of a building: materialisation, operation, and end-of-life. The inventory data used in the materialisation stage was mostly local, in order to ensure that the assessment appropriately reflects the situation in China. Energy consumption in the operation stage was obtained from simulation by commercialised software IESTM, and different scenarios for recycling of timber material in the end-of-life are discussed in this paper. The results from this paper show that using CLT to replace conventional carbon intensive material would reduce energy consumption by more than 30% and reduce CO2 emission by more than 40% in both cities. This paper supports, and has shown the potential of, CLT being used in cold regions with proper detailing to minimise environmental impact.</p

    Adiabatic Fidelity for Atom-Molecule Conversion in a Nonlinear Three-Level \Lambda-system

    We investigate the dynamics of the population transfer for atom-molecule three-level Λ\Lambda-system on stimulated Raman adiabatic passage(STIRAP). We find that the adiabatic fidelity for the coherent population trapping(CPT) state or dark state, as the function of the adiabatic parameter, approaches to unit in a power law. The power exponent however is much less than the prediction of linear adiabatic theorem. We further discuss how to achieve higher adiabatic fidelity for the dark state through optimizing the external parameters of STIRAP. Our discussions are helpful to gain higher atom-molecule conversion yield in practical experiments.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure

    Non-perturbative renormalization of overlap quark bilinears on domain wall fermion configurations

    We present renormalization constants of overlap quark bilinear operators on 2+1-flavor domain wall fermion configurations. Both overlap and domain wall fermions have chiral symmetry on the lattice. The scale independent renormalization constant for the local axial vector current is computed using a Ward Identity. The renormalization constants for the scalar, pseudoscalar and vector current are calculated in the RI-MOM scheme. Results in the MS-bar scheme are obtained by using perturbative conversion ratios.
