In the title compound, [CdI2(C14H12N2)], the molecule sits on a crystallographic twofold axis. The coordination sphere of the CdII atom is built of two symmetry-equivalent N atoms of one 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline (dmphen) ligand and two symmetry-equivalent I atoms, thus forming a distorted tetrahedral geometry. Inversion-related molecules interact along the c-axis direction by π–π stacking interactions between the phenanthroline ring systems, with centroid–centroid distances of 3.707 (9) and 3.597 (10) Å

Cis P-tau is induced in clinical and preclinical brain injury and contributes to post-injury sequelae

Induction of the cis form of phosphorylated tau (cis P-tau) has previously been shown to occur in animal models of traumatic brain injury (TBI), and blocking this form of tau using antibody was beneficial in a rodent model of severe TBI. Here the authors show that cis P-tau induction is a feature of several different forms of TBI in humans, and that administration of cis P-tau targeting antibody to rodents reduces or delays pathological features of TBI

Response surface analysis of structural, mechanical, and permeability properties of polyethylene/Na+-montmorillonite composites, prepared by slurry-fed melt intercalation

Samples were produced by injecting Na+-montmorillonite (Na+-MMT) slurry into a co-rotating twin-screw extruder. Na+-MMT was modified inside the extruder, in an in-situ process, and blended with the LDPE/LLDPE in melt state. Three different types of alkyl ammonium salt (ALAMS) were used as modifier to study the effect of chemical composition and chain length of ALAMS on the dispersion of nanoparticles. Also, the effect of nanoclay content on structural, mechanical, and permeability properties of the samples was investigated. To translate the data into intelligible trends, response surface method was utilized to analyze the effects of the factors on the results. Moreover, transmission electron microscopy was implemented to observe the dispersion of nanoclay platelets. The results suggested that the chain length of ALAMS dramatically affects its ability to modify nanoclay platelets. What is more, while nanoclay increase deteriorates nanoparticles dispersion, it brings about better mechanical and gas barrier properties. The improvement in the properties was higher than those of nanocomposites prepared by conventional method. By studying the effects of feeding rate on nanoclay dispersion, we proved that unlike conventional melt intercalation, water-assisted melt intercalation is controlled by diffusion rather than shear stress. In the end, we proposed a mechanism for this process

Modal Analysis of Multilayer Conical Dielectric Waveguides for Azimuthal Invariant Modes

By using field expansion in terms of the Legendre polynomials and Schelkunoff functions, Maxwell's equations in the spherical coordinate system are cast into a matrix form which lends itself to the analysis of a multilayer conical waveguide. The matrix formulation is then used to obtain an eigen-value problem whose eigen-values are the allowable wave-numbers for propagation in the radial direction. To verify the proposed numerical approach, it is used to evaluate the resonance frequency of a partially filled spherical resonator. The computed resonance frequencies are then compared with those obtained using commercial software based on the finite-element method. The computation time is enormously reduced using the semianalytical method of this work. Although results are shown for lossless isotropic dielectrics, the method is also applicable to conical waveguides made of lossy dielectrics even with negative permittivity
