Graphene/Li-Ion battery
Density function theory calculations were carried out to clarify storage
states of Lithium (Li) ions in graphene clusters. The adsorption energy, spin
polarization, charge distribution, electronic gap, surface curvature and dipole
momentum were calculated for each cluster. Li-ion adsorbed graphene, doped by
one Li atom is spin polarized, so there would be different gaps for different
spin polarization in electrons. Calculation results demonstrated that a smaller
cluster between each two larger clusters is preferable, because it could
improve graphene Li-ion batteries; consequently, the most proper graphene anode
structure has been proposed.Comment: 19 pages, 7 figures, 1 tabl
Rice Chilling Aeration: Assessment of Impacts on Grain Quality, Process Modeling and Validation
The goal of this study is to demonstrate the effectiveness of applying chilling temperatures during on-farm, in-bin drying and storage to maintain rice quality. Specific objectives include to demonstrate the effectiveness of chilling aeration to preserve rice quality characteristics, determine the drying kinetics of rice under low temperature environments, and develop models to predict heat and mass transfer in rice kernel during drying at low temperature environment. To date, there is limited research describing storability or drying behavior of rice in chilled environments. However, it is understood that chilling of high-moisture, \u3e 21% wet basis rough rice could reduce the time pressures on commercial and on-farm dryers to reduce the rough rice moisture content below 12% within two weeks of harvest. Chilling aeration of rice could also eliminate the pre-parboil steps where rice that has been dried to \u3c 11% moisture, must be soaked in water to ~35-38% moisture prior to parboiling. Eliminating this initial drying step potentially reduces energy and operations costs. It is important to investigate suitability of chilling aeration for rice by considering implications on rice milling yields and quality, and process operation costs
On the Picard-Fuchs Equations of N=2 Supersymmetric E_6 Yang-Mills Theory
We obtain the Picard-Fuchs equations of N=2 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory
with the exceptional gauge group E_6. Such equations are based on E_6 spectral
curve.Comment: Latex, 5 pages, few misprints are corrected, conclusion is adde
Gradient Flow in Logarithmic Conformal Field Theory
We establish conditions under which the worldsheet beta-functions of
logarithmic conformal field theories can be derived as the gradient of some
scalar function on the moduli space of running coupling constants. We derive a
renormalization group invariant version of this function and relate it to the
usual Zamolodchikov C-function expressed in terms of correlation functions of
the worldsheet energy-momentum tensor. The results are applied to the example
of D-brane recoil in string theory.Comment: 12 pages LaTeX; references updated, one added; to be published in

Diamond-Like Carbon film from Liquid Gas on Metallic Substrates
Liquid gas was used to produce DLC films on Cu, Al and steel substrates by DC
plasma technique. The absorption in IR reflectance indicates, grown films are
DLC. By deconvolution of room temperature UV-visible spectra of the films grown
at 50 mtorr and 200C, in addition to the spectra lines reported for
CL, PL, PLC and ESR, some new spectra lines were obtained. We also, have seen
exciton absorption line at room temperature.Comment: 6 pages, Postscript, 2 figure
