    Enabling MPSoC design space exploration on FPGAs

    Future applications for embedded systems demand chip multiprocessor designs to meet real-time deadlines. These multiprocessors are increasingly becoming heterogeneous for reasons of cost and power. Design space exploration (DSE) of application mapping becomes a major design decision in such systems. The time spent in DSE becomes even greater with multiple applications executing concurrently. Methods have been proposed to automate generation of multiprocessor designs and prototype them on FPGAs. However, only few are able to support heterogeneous platforms. This is because heterogeneous processors require different types of inter-processor communication interfaces. So when we choose a different processor for a particular task, the communication infrastructure of the processor also has to change. In this paper, we present a module that integrates in a multiprocessor design generation flow and allows heterogeneous platform generation. This module is area efficient and fast. The DSE shows that up to 31% FPGA area can be saved when heterogeneous design is used as compared to a homogeneous platform. Moreover, the performance of the application also improves significantly

    Making rainfed agriculture sustainable through environmental friendly technologies in Pakistan: A review

    Abstract:Pakistan is an agricultural country spreading over an area of about 79. 6 million hectares (Mha) with an arid and semi arid climate. Of 79. 6 Mha, about 23 Mha is suitable for crop production and nearly 25 percent of the total cultivated area is designated for rainfed agriculture. Unfortunately, rain-fed agriculture is constrained with multifarious problems such as moisture stress, soil erosion and crusting, nutrient deficiency, depletion and poor nutrient use efficiency, and weed infestation limiting the yield potential of these lands. In addition, deforestation and poor crop husbandry techniques are commonly noticed features. To meet the food requirements, farmers bring all the available pieces of lands under plough including steep slopes. Farming on steep slopes if not managed on scientific lines, results in severe erosion. The problems faced by the farmers are due to the unsustainable practices they adopt to practice dryland agriculture, limiting the productive potential of these important ecosystems. However, their potential can be improved by adopting suitable rainwater harvesting techniques; employing scientific soil and water conservation methods and using sustainable agricultural practices. This paper highlights some important issues associated with the rainfed agriculture of Pakistan. Working strategies for realizing optimum and sustainable yields have been outlined while conserving both land and water resources

    A Case of an Anomalous Right Coronary Artery Arising from the Left Coronary Cusp

    An anomalous origin of the right coronary artery is usually asymptomatic. It is mostly found incidentally on an invasive diagnostic angiogram. It does lead to an increased risk of sudden cardiac death, especially in younger patients. We present a case of a 41-year-old who had presented to the hospital with complaints of chest pain. The patient was evaluated by cardiology who performed an angiography that identified an anomalous origin of the right coronary artery arising from the left coronary cusp but no evidence of coronary artery disease. Once identified, these anomalous vessels should be corrected surgically, as these conditions increase the risk of sudden cardiac death arrhythmia and ischemic events

    A classification of spherically symmetric spacetimes

    A complete classification of locally spherically symmetric four-dimensional Lorentzian spacetimes is given in terms of their local conformal symmetries. The general solution is given in terms of canonical metric types and the associated conformal Lie algebras. The analysis is based upon the local conformal decomposition into 2+2 reducible spacetimes and the Petrov type. A variety of physically meaningful example spacetimes are discussed

    PHYOX2: a pivotal randomized study of nedosiran in primary hyperoxaluria type 1 or 2

Oxalate overproduction is the hallmark of all genetic subtypes of primary hyperoxaluria (PH). In this double-blind, placebo-controlled study, we randomly assigned (2:1) 35 participants with PH1 (n = 29) or PH2 (n = 6) with eGFR ≥30 mL/min/1.73 m2 to subcutaneous nedosiran or placebo once monthly for 6 months. The area under the curve (AUC) of percent reduction from baseline in 24-hour urinary oxalate (Uox) excretion (primary endpoint), between day 90–180, was significantly greater with nedosiran vs placebo (least squares mean [SE], +3507 [788] vs −1664 [1190], respectively; difference, 5172; 95% CI 2929–7414; P < 0.001). A greater proportion of participants receiving nedosiran vs placebo achieved normal or near-normal (<0.60 mmol/24 hours; <1.3 × ULN) Uox excretion on ≥2 consecutive visits starting at day 90 (50% vs 0; P = 0.002); this effect was mirrored in the nedosiran-treated PH1 subgroup (64.7% vs 0; P < 0.001). The PH1 subgroup maintained a sustained Uox reduction while on nedosiran, whereas no consistent effect was seen in the PH2 subgroup. Nedosiran-treated participants with PH1 also showed a significant reduction in plasma oxalate versus placebo (P = 0.017). Nedosiran was generally safe and well tolerated. In the nedosiran arm, the incidence of injection-site reactions was 9% (all mild and self-limiting). In conclusion, participants with PH1 receiving nedosiran had clinically meaningful reductions in Uox, the mediator of kidney damage in PH

    Seasonal weather and climate prediction over area burned in grasslands of northeast China

Grassland fire dynamics are subject to myriad climatic, biological, and anthropogenic drivers, thresholds, and feedbacks and therefore do not conform to assumptions of statistical stationarity. The presence of non-stationarity in time series data leads to ambiguous results that can misinform regional-level fire management strategies. This study employs non-stationarity in time series data among multiple variables and multiple intensities using dynamic simulations of autoregressive distributed lag models to elucidate key drivers of climate and ecological change on burned grasslands in Xilingol, China. We used unit root methods to select appropriate estimation methods for further analysis. Using the model estimations, we developed scenarios emulating the effects of instantaneous changes (i.e., shocks) of some significant variables on climate and ecological change. Changes in mean monthly wind speed and maximum temperature produce complex responses on area burned, directly, and through feedback relationships. Our framework addresses interactions among multiple drivers to explain fire and ecosystem responses in grasslands, and how these may be understood and prioritized in different empirical contexts needed to formulate effective fire management policies

    SWIFT Code Assessment for Two Similar Transonic Compressors

    One goal of the NASA Fundamental Aeronautics Program is the assessment of computational fluid dynamic (CFD) codes used for the design and analysis of many aerospace systems. This paper describes the assessment of the SWIFT turbomachinery analysis code for two similar transonic compressors, NASA rotor 37 and stage 35. The two rotors have identical blade profiles on the front, transonic half of the blade but rotor 37 has more camber aft of the shock. Thus the two rotors have the same shock structure and choking flow but rotor 37 produces a higher pressure ratio. The two compressors and experimental data are described here briefly. Rotor 37 was also used for test cases organized by ASME, IGTI, and AGARD in 1994-1998. Most of the participating codes over predicted pressure and temperature ratios, and failed to predict certain features of the downstream flowfield. Since then the AUSM+ upwind scheme and the k- turbulence model have been added to SWIFT. In this work the new capabilities were assessed for the two compressors. Comparisons were made with overall performance maps and spanwise profiles of several aerodynamic parameters. The results for rotor 37 were in much better agreement with the experimental data than the original blind test case results although there were still some discrepancies. The results for stage 35 were in very good agreement with the data. The results for rotor 37 were very sensitive to turbulence model parameters but the results for stage 35 were not. Comparison of the rotor solutions showed that the main difference between the two rotors was not blade camber as expected, but shock/boundary layer interaction on the casing
