    Two Higgs doublet models for the LHC Higgs boson data at s=\sqrt{s}= 7 and 8 TeV

    Updated LHC data on the new 126 GeV boson during the 7 and 8 TeV runnings strengthen the standard model Higgs boson interpretation further. Through the global χ2\chi^2 analysis, we investigate whether the new particle could be one of the scalar particles in two Higgs doublet models. Four types (Type I, II, X and Y) are comprehensively studied. Taking the recent analysis on the spin-parity of the new boson, we consider two scenarios: the new boson is either the light CP-even one (h0h^0) or the heavy CP-even one (H0H^0). It is found that both scenarios are consistent with the new data, not only in the parameter regions near the decoupling limit but also in other regions far from the decoupling limit. In addition, the current data are compatible with the possibility that the light Higgs boson h0h^0 is hidden in the mass window of 90-100 GeV. The diphoton or ττ\tau\tau channel can provide a probe of this possibility by the enhanced signal rates.Comment: To appear in JHE

    Efficacy of endoscopic third ventriculostomy in old aged patients with normal pressure hydrocephalus

    Normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) is a chronic disorder caused by interrupted CSF absorption or flow. Generally, shunt placement is first option for NPH treatment. Due to complications of ventriculo-peritoneal (VP) shunt placement, endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) can be considered as an alternative treatment option. Here we report the efficacy of ETV especially in old aged patients with normal pressure hydrocephalus. Total 21 old aged patients with communicating hydrocephalus with opening pressure, measured via lumbar puncture, less than 20cm H2O underwent ETV. 15 patients had primary/idiopathic NPH and 6 patients had secondary NPH. All patients were studied with a MRI to observe the flow void at aqueduct and the fourth ventricle outflow. And all of them underwent ETV. In a group with peak velocity was higher than 5cm/s, nine patients (75%) were evaluated was ‘favorable’ and three of them (25%) was scored ‘poor’. In another group with peak velocity less than 5cm/s, three of them were scored ‘poor’ and two of them were scored ‘stable’. None of them was evaluated as ‘favorable’. We also evaluated the outcomes according to etiology: 12 patients (80% of the patients with primary NPH) were evaluated with ‘favorable’ after ETV treatment. Two patients (13.3%) were as ‘stable’. And one patient was as ‘poor’ evaluated. Five patients (83.3%) among patients with secondary NPH were as ‘poor’ evaluated and one of them was stable and no patient was as ‘favorable’ evaluated. 4 patients, which was as ‘poor’ evaluated in the group with the secondary NPH, underwent additional VP shunt implantation. Overall, the outcomes of the group with the idiopathic NPH after ETV treatment were more favorable than of the group with the secondary NPH. Our study suggest that ETV can be effective for selected elderly patients with primary/idiopathic NPH, when they satisfy criteria including positive aqueduct flow void on T2 Sagittal MRI and the aqueductal peak velocity, which is greater than 5cm/s on cine MRI

    Development and characterization of stable cell lines constitutively expressing the porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus nucleocapsid protein

    Despite global efforts to control porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) infection, the virus continues to cause economic problems in the swine industry worldwide. In this study, we attempted to generate and characterize a panel of stable BHK cell lines that constitutively express the nucleocapsid (N) protein of type 1 or type 2 PRRSV. The established BHK cell lines were found to react well with N-specific antibodies as well as the hyperimmune serum of pigs raised against each genotype of PRRSV. Taken together, the data implicate a potential usefulness for the newly generated stable cell lines as a diagnostic reagent for PRRSV serology

    Nanopores of carbon nanotubes as practical hydrogen storage media

    We report on hydrogen desorption mechanisms in the nanopores of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). The as-grown MWCNTs show continuous walls that do not provide sites for hydrogen storage under ambient conditions. However, after treating the nanotubes with oxygen plasma to create nanopores in the MWCNTs, we observed the appearance of a new hydrogen desorption peak in the 300–350 K range. Furthermore, the calculations of density functional theory and molecular dynamics simulations confirmed that this peak could be attributed to the hydrogen that is physically adsorbed inside nanopores whose diameter is approximately 1 nm. Thus, we demonstrated that 1 nm nanopores in MWCNTs offer a promising route to hydrogen storage media for onboard practical applications
