The tectonics and stratigraphy of the transitional zone between the Pieniny Klippen Belt and Magura Nappe (Szczawnica area, Poland)
The Pieniny Klippen Belt is a narrow, complex structure stretching along a tectonic boundary between the Central and Outer Carpathians. Its formation involved two main evolutionary stages, the first, related to Late Cretaceous-Paleocene folding and thrusting, and the second, associated with Miocene orogenic events in the Outer Carpathians. Interactions between the Pieniny Klippen Belt and Outer Carpathians during both the sedimentation and deformation stages have resulted in the establishment of a peri-klippen transitional zone (named the Šariš Transitional Zone), in which the tectonic deformation effects gradually decrease towards the north. The stratigraphy and tectonic position of this zone have been controversial for decades. The key stratigraphic problems concern 1) the lithologic identity and position of the Szlachtowa (“black flysch”), Opaleniec and Pieniny formations and 2) the relation of the Jarmuta Formation, associated mainly with the Šariš Transitional Zone, to the Szczawnica and Zarzecze formations of the Magura Nappe. We provide an early Paleogene dinoflagellate cyst stratigraphic record of deposits that, according to some recent reinterpretations, represent the Neogene “Kremna Formation”. The legitimacy of new lithostratigraphic assignments of the “Kremna Formation” at Jaworki is put into question upon the basis of the primacy of units introduced for the same strata earlier

Nasledovanie vybrannykh kolichestvennykh priznakov khmelja obyknovennogo
The respective investigations were carried out by the Department of Plant Genetics and Breeding, Agricultural University of Lublin, in 1982-1983. Variability and heritability in the population of 89 hop plants bred for the earliness trait were determined. The highest heritability has been found for the content of alpha-acids /h² = 0.77/. length of lateral shoots /h² = 0.59/ and growth period length /h² = 0.54/. Inheritance of the remaining six traits lay within the limits of 0.22-0.43.
Single-Cell Omics in Dissecting Immune Microenvironment of Malignant Gliomas—Challenges and Perspectives
Single-cell technologies allow precise identification of tumor composition at the single-cell level, providing high-resolution insights into the intratumoral heterogeneity and transcriptional activity of cells in the tumor microenvironment (TME) that previous approaches failed to capture. Malignant gliomas, the most common primary brain tumors in adults, are genetically heterogeneous and their TME consists of various stromal and immune cells playing an important role in tumor progression and responses to therapies. Previous gene expression or immunocytochemical studies of immune cells infiltrating TME of malignant gliomas failed to dissect their functional phenotypes. Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) and cytometry by time-of-flight (CyTOF) are powerful techniques allowing quantification of whole transcriptomes or >30 protein targets in individual cells. Both methods provide unprecedented resolution of TME. We summarize the findings from these studies and the current state of knowledge of a functional diversity of immune infiltrates in malignant gliomas with different genetic alterations. A precise definition of functional phenotypes of myeloid and lymphoid cells might be essential for designing effective immunotherapies. Single-cell omics studies have identified crucial cell subpopulations and signaling pathways that promote tumor progression, influence patient survival or make tumors vulnerable to immunotherapy. We anticipate that the widespread usage of single-cell omics would allow rational design of oncoimmunotherapeutics
Yielding of hop on light soils in the region of Towy Tomyśl
The respective studies were carried out in 1982 - 1985 at Cicha Góra near Nowy Tomyśl on the sandy water-abundant soil of the 5th valuation class. The share of sand (1 - 0,1 mm) on the level of 0 - 45 cm was within 82%. Four varieties and 8 clones of hop were analysed. The results have proved that in these site conditions high yield of hop can be obtained (about 3,0 t/ha) provided suitable varieties would be chosen. The standard variety - Lubelski - gave the lowest yield of all the varieties. Clones PCU 180 and LGR 380 took the first two places, as their yield was 100% higher than that of the standard variety. An additional value of these clones is the good technological value of cones, which was confirmed by organoleptic estimation of beer
The estimation of variability and correlation of quantitative traits in spring durum wheat collection of Afghan origin
W latach 2007–2010 przeprowadzono badania z 73 genotypami jarej pszenicy twardej (Triticum durum Desf.) pozyskanymi z National Germplasm Resources Laboratory USDA, ARS, Beltsville. Były to populacje miejscowe pochodzące z Afganistanu, głównie z prowincji Helmand, Herat, Kabul i Kandahar. W odniesieniu do liczby ziaren w kłosie i kłosku można sądzić o znacznej interakcji genotypowo-środowiskowej, o czym świadczą nieistotne współczynniki korelacji pomiędzy wszystkimi latami badań. A study on 73 spring durum wheat (Triticum durum Desf.) genotypes obtained from National Germplasm Resources Laboratory USDA, ARS, Beltsville was carried out in 2007–2010. They were local populations originating from Afghanistan, mainly from Helmand, Herat, Kabul, Kandahar provinces. All genotypes were assessed in detail during the four year cycle of field experiment conducted at the Experimental Field Station of the University of Life Sciences in Czesławice near Nałęczów. The following traits were analyzed: number of days from emergence to heading, vegetation period, plant height, spike rachis length, number of spikelets per spike, spike density, number of grains per spike and spikelet, weight of grains per spike, 1000 grain weight and total protein content in the grain. The obtained results indicate a large differentiation of tested materials regarding all analyzed traits, although the number of grains per spike, weight of grains per spike and 1000 grain weight were characterized by highest values of variability coefficients (CV = 15.7%; CV = 23.8%; CV=15.0%). The number of grains per spike and spikelet indicate considerable genotype-environmental interaction, which was proved by insignificant values of correlation coefficients between years. The weight of grains per spike depended mainly on number of grains per spike (rxy= 0.810) and spikelet (rxy= 0.824) and 1000 grain weight (rxy= 0.772). The correlation coefficient of above mentioned trait with protein content in grain was insignificant (rxy= -0.172). However, in analyzed population a lot of genotypes had high and stable in years weight of grains per spike and high protein content in the grain. They can be an interesting initial material in a practical breeding of durum wheat in Poland
