Polarization and `Model Independent' Extraction of from and
We briefly discuss the predictions of the heavy quark effective theory for
the semileptonic decays of a heavy pseudoscalar to a light one, or to a light
vector meson. We point out that measurement of combinations of differential
helicity decay rates at Cleo-c and the factories can provide a model
independent means of extracting the ratio
. We briefly discuss the corrections to this prediction.Comment: 8 pages, LaTeX, 1 figur
Transition Form Factors between Pseudoscalar and Vector Mesons in Light-Front Dynamics
We study the transition form factors between pseudoscalar and vector mesons
using a covariant fermion field theory model in dimensions. Performing
the light-front calculation in the frame in parallel with the
manifestly covariant calculation, we note that the suspected nonvanishing
zero-mode contribution to the light-front current does not exist in our
analysis of transition form factors. We also perform the light-front
calculation in a purely longitudinal frame and confirm that the form
factors obtained directly from the timelike region are identical to the ones
obtained by the analytic continuation from the spacelike region. Our results
for the decay process satisfy the constraints on the
heavy-to-heavy semileptonic decays imposed by the flavor independence in the
heavy quark limit.Comment: 20 pages, 14 figure
Charm and Bottom Semileptonic Decays
We review the present status of theoretical attempts to calculate the
semileptonic charm and bottom decays and then present a calculation of these
decays in the light--front frame at the kinematic point . This allows us
to evaluate the form factors at the same value of , even though the
allowed kinematic ranges for charm and bottom decays are very different. Also,
at this kinematic point the decay is given in terms of only one form factor
. For the ratio of the decay rates given by the E653 collaboration we
show that the determination of the ratio of the Cabibbo--Kobayashi--Maskawa
(CKM) matrix elements is consistent with that obtained from the unitarity
constraint. At present, though, the unitarity method still has greater
accuracy. Since comparisons of the semileptonic decays into and either
electrons or muons will be available soon from the E791 Fermilab experiment, we
also look at the massive muon case. We show that for a range of the
symmetry breaking is small even though the contributions of the
various helicity amplitudes becomes more complicated. For decays, the decay
at involves an extra form factor
coming from the photon contribution and so is not amenable to the same kind of
analysis, leaving only the decay as a
possibility. As the mass of the decaying particle increases we note that the
symmetry becomes badly broken at .Comment: Latex, 19 pages, two figures are attached, a minor change in the

Bounds on Heavy-to-Heavy Mesonic Form Factors
We provide upper and lower bounds on the form factors for B -> D, D^* by
utilizing inclusive heavy quark effective theory sum rules. These bounds are
calculated to leading order in Lambda_QCD/m_Q and alpha_s. The O(alpha_s^2
beta_0) corrections to the bounds at zero recoil are also presented. We compare
our bounds with some of the form factor models used in the literature. All the
models we investigated failed to fall within the bounds for the combination of
form factors (omega^2 - 1)/(4 omega)|omega h_{A2}+h_{A3}|^2.Comment: 27 pages, 10 figure
Heavy to Light Meson Exclusive Semileptonic Decays in Effective Field Theory of Heavy Quark
We present a general study on exclusive semileptonic decays of heavy (B, D,
B_s) to light (pi, rho, K, K^*) mesons in the framework of effective field
theory of heavy quark. Transition matrix elements of these decays can be
systematically characterized by a set of wave functions which are independent
of the heavy quark mass except for the implicit scale dependence. Form factors
for all these decays are calculated consistently within the effective theory
framework using the light cone sum rule method at the leading order of 1/m_Q
expansion. The branching ratios of these decays are evaluated, and the heavy
and light flavor symmetry breaking effects are investigated. We also give
comparison of our results and the predictions from other approaches, among
which are the relations proposed recently in the framework of large energy
effective theory.Comment: 18 pages, ReVtex, 5 figures, added references and comparison of

Covariant Light-Front Approach for s-wave and p-wave Mesons: Its Application to Decay Constants and Form Factors
We study the decay constants and form factors of the ground-state s-wave and
low-lying p-wave mesons within a covariant light-front approach. Numerical
results of the form factors for transitions between a heavy pseudoscalar meson
and an s-wave or p-wave meson and their momentum dependence are presented in
detail. In particular, form factors for heavy-to-light and B to D**
transitions, where D** denotes generically a p-wave charmed meson, are compared
with other model calculations. The experimental measurements of the decays B^-
to D** pi^- and B to D D**_s are employed to test the decay constants of D**_s
and the B to D** transition form factors. The heavy quark limit behavior of the
decay constants and form factors is examined and it is found that the
requirement of heavy quark symmetry is satisfied. The universal Isgur-Wise (IW)
functions, one for s-wave to s-wave and two for s-wave to p-wave transitions,
are obtained. The values of IW functions at zero recoil and their slope
parameters can be used to test the Bjorken and Uraltsev sum rules.Comment: 59 pages, 6 figures. Version to appear in Phys. Rev. D. Changes are:

Semileptonic B decays to excited charmed mesons
Exclusive semileptonic B decays into excited charmed mesons are investigated
at order in the heavy quark effective theory. Differential
decay rates for each helicity state of the four lightest excited mesons
(, , , and ) are examined. At zero recoil,
corrections to the matrix elements of the weak currents can
be written in terms of the leading Isgur-Wise functions for the corresponding
transition and meson mass splittings. A model independent prediction is found
for the slope parameter of the decay rate into helicity zero at zero
recoil. The differential decay rates are predicted, including
corrections with some model dependence away from zero
recoil and including order corrections. Ratios of various exclusive
branching ratios are computed. Matrix elements of the weak currents between
mesons and other excited charmed mesons are discussed at zero recoil to order
. These amplitudes vanish at leading order, and can be
written at order in terms of local matrix elements.
Applications to decay sum rules and factorization are presented.Comment: 39 pages revtex including 10 figures, uses epsf. Substantial

Semileptonic B decays into even parity charmed mesons
By using a constituent quark model we compute the form factors relevant to
semileptonic transitions of B mesons into low-lying p-wave charmed mesons. We
evaluate the q^2 dependence of these form factors and compare them with other
model calculations. The Isgur-Wise functions tau(1/2) and tau(3/2) are also
obtained in the heavy quark limit of our results.Comment: 11 pages, 2 figure
Rare exclusive semileptonic b -> s transitions in the Standard Model
We study long-distance effects in rare exclusive semileptonic decays B -> (K,
K*) (l+ l-, nu bar{nu}) and analyze dilepton spectra and asymmetries within the
framework of the Standard Model. The form factors, describing the meson
transition amplitudes of the effective Hamiltonian are calculated within the
lattice-constrained dispersion quark model: the form factors are given by
dispersion representations through the wave functions of the initial and final
mesons, and these wave functions are chosen such that the B -> K* transition
form factors agree with the lattice results at large q**2. We calculate
branching ratios of semileptonic B -> K, K* transition modes and study the
sensitivity of observables to the long-distance contributions. The shape of the
forward-backward asymmetry and the longitudinal lepton polarization asymmetry
are found to be independent of the long-distance effects and mainly determined
by the values of the Wilson coefficients in the Standard Model.Comment: revtex, 17 pp., 5 figures with epsfig.st
Kaon electroweak form factors in the light-front quark model
We investigate the form factors and decay rates for the semileptonic decays
of the kaon( using the light-front quark model. The form factors
are calculated in frame and analytically continued
to the time-like region, . Our numerical results for the physical
observables, , (the
