The differential impact of several teaching strategies upon the integration of economic concepts into the mathematics curriculum
This investigation focuses upon two major problems. The first problem is to determine what effect the inclusion of economics in the mathematics curriculum will have upon student attitudes toward and understanding and retention of economics and mathematics. The second problem is to determine whether different methods of instruction will result in significantly different levels of student attitudes toward and understanding and retention of economics and mathematics
Intrinsic ergodicity beyond specification: beta-shifts, S-gap shifts, and their factors
We give sufficient conditions for a shift space to be
intrinsically ergodic, along with sufficient conditions for every subshift
factor of to be intrinsically ergodic. As an application, we show that
every subshift factor of a -shift is intrinsically ergodic, which
answers an open question included in Mike Boyle's article "Open problems in
symbolic dynamics". We obtain the same result for -gap shifts, and describe
an application of our conditions to more general coded systems. One novelty of
our approach is the introduction of a new version of the specification property
that is well adapted to the study of symbolic spaces with a non-uniform
structure.Comment: 27 pages, 1 figure, minor changes based on referee's suggestions, in

Experimental investigation of the dynamics of large-scale circulations in turbulent mixed convection in a rectangular sample
Mixed convection in a rectangular sample shows flow reconfigurations for a certain range of dimensionless numbers. Stereo PIV was conducted in this parameter range for 6 planes near the left sidewall of the sample to investigate the supposed roll generation process. The analysis displays the relation of the flow structure to the changes in the simultaneously recorded temperature distribution. Further investigations include the propagation of flow structures through the considered planes
