The Solar Sail Spaceflight Simulation Software (S5) toolkit provides solar-sail designers with an integrated environment for designing optimal solar-sail trajectories, and then studying the attitude dynamics/control, navigation, and trajectory control/correction of sails during realistic mission simulations. Unique features include a high-fidelity solar radiation pressure model suitable for arbitrarily-shaped solar sails, a solar-sail trajectory optimizer, capability to develop solar-sail navigation filter simulations, solar-sail attitude control models, and solar-sail high-fidelity force models

The Establishment of an Outdoor Elementary Environmental Education Day in the Unified School District of Antigo Using an Appropriate Outdoor Site as a Means to Infuse Environmental Education (EE) into the Elementary Curriculum

Outdoor environmental education in the regular classroom is an experience that students don't often get. In an attempt to expose students to a variety of professionals on the environment and to get the students outdoors, an elementary environmental education day was established. In August of 1993, professionals from the local DNR office and teachers in the fifth grades in the school district were brought together to develop the instruction that would be delivered to the students at the outdoor site. The instruction being done by professionals exposes the students to people trained on the subject, gives credibility to the lesson, and introduces them to possible future careers. A follow up survey and evaluation of fifth grade students and their teachers showed that the outdoor experience was valuable and should be continued. Follow up meetings of instructors showed that things went well but there was room for improvement. This fall will see the fourth year of the program with a few minor changes. There will be district wide inservicing on the importance of the program, the continuation of the infusion process for EE in grades K-12, a shortened outdoor activity day, new subjects and instructors have been brought in, and better pre-instruction and follow-up activities will be given
