BILIPROTEINS FROM THE BUTTERFLY Pieris brassicae STUDIED BY TIME-RESOLVED FLUORESCENCE AND COHERENT ANTI-STOKES RAMAN SPECTROSCOPY
The fluorescence decay time of the biliverdin IX7 chromophore present in biliproteins isolated from Pieris brassicae is determined to be 44 ± 3 ps. This value suggests a cyclic helical chromophore structure. The vibrational frequencies determined by CARS-spectroscopy are compared with those of model compounds. The data confirm that the chromophore in the protein-bound state adopts a cyclic-helical, flexible conformation
NONLINEAR POLARIZATION SPECTROSCOPY (FREQUENCY DOMAIN) STUDIES OF EXCITED STATE PROCESSES: THE B800â850ANTENNA OF RHODOBACTER SPHAEROIDES
Nonlinear polarization spectroscopy in the frequency domain allows rate constant determinations of fast electronic energy and phase relaxations together with characterization of the type of line broadening. Application of this method to the B850 component of the isolated B800â850antenna ofRhodobacter sphaeroides at room temperature shows that B850 is inhomogeneously broadened, with homogeneous widths between 30 and 200 cmâ1, depending on the spectral position of the subforms. The corresponding phase relaxation times are clearly in the subpicosecond range. There is also indication of an up-to-now unspecified1â5 ps energy relaxation channel per subunit
Conductance oscillations in mesoscopic rings: microscopic versus macroscopic picture
The phase of Aharonov-Bohm oscillations in mesoscopic metal rings in the
presence of a magnetic field can be modulated by application of a DC-bias
current I_DC. We address the question of how a variation of I_DC and hence of
the microscopic phases of the electronic wave functions results in the
macroscopic phase of the conductance oscillations. Whereas the first one can be
varied continuously the latter has to be quantized for a ring in two-wire
configuration by virtue of the Onsager symmetry relations. We observe a
correlation between a phase flip by +/- pi and the amplitude of the
oscillations.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
PHYCOBILISOMES AND ISOLATED PHYCOBILIPROTEINS. EFFECT OF GLUTARDIALDEHYDE AND BENZOQUINONE ON FLUORESCENCE
The fluorescence of the biliproteins C-phycocyanin from Spirulina platensis, B-phycoerythrin
from Porphyridium cruentum and of isolated whole P. cruentum phycobilisomes is quenched in the
presence of glutardialdehyde (GA) or benzoquinone (BQ). The kinetics of fluorescence decrease thus
induced is biphasic. If GA is used as a quencher, the fluorescence can be recovered at 77 K. Contrary to
the GA-effect, only a minor recovery takes place with BQ at 77K, thus demonstrating a different
mechanism of action of GA and BQ on biliprotein
Direct mail selection by joint modeling of the probability and quantity of response
Operations such as integration or modularization of databases can be considered as operations on database universes. This paper describes some operations on database universes. Formally, a database universe is a special kind of table. It turns out that various operations on tables constitute interesting operations on database universes as well.
