On the Potential Function of the Colored Jones Polynomial with Arbitrary Colors

We consider the potential function of the colored Jones polynomial for a link with arbitrary colors and obtain the cone-manifold structure for the link complement. In addition, we establish a relationship between a saddle point equation and hyperbolicity of the link complement. This provides evidence for the Chen-Yang conjecture on the link complement.Comment: 21 pages, 18 figure

On the Potential Function of the Colored Jones Polynomial and the AJ conjecture

The AA-polynomial is conjectured to be obtained from the potential function of the colored Jones polynomial by elimination. The AJ conjecture also implies the relationship between the AA-polynomial and the colored Jones polynomial. In this paper, we connect these conjectures from the perspective of the parametrized potential function. We also observe that the AqA_q-polynomial is obtained from the difference equation of the summand of the colored Jones polynomial. Finally, we consider the link version of the AJ conjecture.Comment: 15 pages, 0 figure

First microbiota assessments of children's paddling pool waters evaluated using 16S rRNA gene-based metagenome analysis

SummaryInsufficient chloric sterilization of children's paddling pool waters increases the risk of diarrheal illness. Therefore, we investigated the microbiota changes after children use pools. First, we applied 16S rRNA gene-based metagenome analysis to understand the dynamics of microbiota in pool water, especially with respect to the bio-contamination by potential pathogens. Proteobacteria were major taxa detected in every pool water sample after children spent time in the pool. In more detail, Gammaproteobacteria comprised the dominant class, which was followed by Betaproteobacteria. Five phyla, Bacteroidetes, Firmicutes, Actinobacteria and Deinococcus-Thermus phyla were minor groups. The pool water microbiota are likely to be a consortium of intestinal and skin microbiota from humans. Interestingly, the ratio of Gammaproteobacteria and Betaproteobacteria differed according to the age of the children who used the pool, which means the pool water was additionally contaminated by soil microbiota as a result of the children's behavior. Furthermore, potential pathogens, such as Campylobacter spp., Comamonas testosteroni and Burkholderia pseudomallei, were also found. Considering the standard plate counts, the abundances of these human pathogens are unlikely to be a sufficiently infectious dose. We suggest the importance of sanitary measures in paddling pool waters to reduce bio-contamination from both humans and the environment

The network effects of core values on management controls

Paper presented at American Accounting Association Management Accounting Section Conference 2013, New Orleans, 10-12 Jan 2013Simons’ (1995b, 2000) levers of control have become one of the most prominently utilised management control system frameworks in the accounting literature. In this paper we focus on core values, which guide and motivate an organisation, an area of the framework not examined in the accounting literature. Specifically we examine the process through which a new core value develops. We also show how this process is influenced by and acts upon the other levers of control. We highlight how this process initially involves few actors, little complexity and creates a descriptive definition for the core value. Based on this descriptive definition more actors become involved, resulting in more complexity and focuses on these actors trying to develop an understanding of the practical relevance of the new core value. The process of developing the core value and the search for practical relevance necessitates the creation and transformation of other management controls. These management controls in turn change the core value and other actors within the process. The process of search and discovery provides belief control through embedding elements of the core value in the management controls that were created or transformed. While the core value may be displaced its effects on other controls remain in place thus showing how and why controls embody both technical and social elements
