A collaboration framework to support decision making in new product development with the supply chain
Management use the supply chain features more frequently, as the increasing rate of product introduc-tions demands more efforts from a business to deliver new products effectively and efficiently. To produce products at the targeted cost, time, and quality, the supply chain must be aligned with product development processes. This will allow manufacturing firms to overcome problems such as (partially) failed product launches due to the lack of timely provision of parts and systems caused by insufficient capacities in the supply chain. With integrated New Product Development (NPD) and Supply Chain Management (SCM), enterprises have the benefit of increased supply chain capability, thus increasing the effectiveness of new product introduction and improving their overall performance. In this re-search, the authors have tried to link NPD of an automotive manufacturer to its global network of suppliers. The integration points in the integrated NPD and SCM framework will provide guidelines to identifying where critical decision are made in collaboration with the supply chain
Requirements analysis in the implementation of integrated PLM, ERP and CAD systems
Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system implementation is a major investment when the technology is used in manufacturing companies. This paper provides an analysis of the requirements for the integration of PLM systems with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems incorporating the design aspects of Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) within the product development process. PLM implementation deals with various existing product data and information generated over years both from CAD and ERP systems. Data integration is very challenging and has important impact on future decisions while creating new processes. The information management plays very important role not only in PLM implementation but also in the way this will be used in future production. Therefore it is very important to analyse how product information is transferred to PLM system. It also need to be investigated that what, when and how the data will flow from and to PLM systems
Can We Operate in a Shared Economy: Insights from Global Logistics Sector
The current global environment requires to continue improvement for innovative methods and practices of the business process management to be sustainable performance including three-pillars (economic, social and environment) [1]. The term sharing generally defined as non- ownership and less tangible assets [2]. This paper presents the interconnection of “Sharing Economy” & “Sharing Logistics”. The paper aims to address the understanding of success factors towards sharing economy and development in global logistics and supply chain management. Its achievement is based on a two-research methodology design that consists of the secondary sources review and case studies analysis. The study identifies that share economy logistics has opportunities and benefits from rising costs of warehousing, transportation, and last-mile delivery to create customer value. Beside generate value to the customer it has driven supply chain sustainability with blockchain as well.Keyword: Shared Economy, Shared Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Procurement and Transportatio
Evaluation of Internet of Things (IoT) and its impacts on Global Supply Chains
The research study aims to examine and evaluate the impacts of Internet of Things (IoT) on Global Supply Chain environments. The Internet of Things (IoT) phenomenon, being a part of a digital revolution, is currently considered as a quite profitable factor for the industries and the markets worldwide. Adopting and incorporating the latest technologies, increases competitiveness and develops new ways of communication. The IoT pervades and revolutionizes supply chain sector, influencing its management and way of structure. It is proposed that its impact on Supply Chain Management (SCM) is strong and instrumental, promising profits and innovations. The IoT systems are used more by many companies worldwide, which enjoy their benefits: delivery service improvement, financial profits, cost reducing, wastage minimization, equipment monitoring, preventing and retailers and consumer’s alleviation. Although, the researchers are at the preliminary stages of the research study, this paper aims to adopt an in-depth secondary data collection method through conducting a critical literature review within the field. Through investigative understanding, the researchers aim to adopt a detailed case study approach through service based supply chain providers using a mixed research method. The outcomes and findings will further be analyzed to examine the proposed knowledge framework developed within the research. Even though there is a positive approach for the IoT expansibility dominating the public view, there are still some problems and key challenges that should be taken into consideration. The IoT complicated nature brings to light privacy, security and cost issues that should be faced and solved. However, considering its immature face, time will bring opportunities for problem solving and further development
Green Supply Chain Management in Food Retail Industry: An Exploratory Study
Green Supply Chain management (GSCM) has been the focus of many scholars and researchers in recent years, all with a common interest to determine how companies’ performances are being improved with the adoption of GSCM [1]. However, in most of the studies conducted by researchers, they are mainly concerned with the GSCM in manufacturing industry and less attention was given to the food retail industry. Therefore, this research is relevant and intend to explore GSCM further, especially in the context of Malaysian food retail industry so that the results from the findings will be applicable for food retail stores to contribute to improving the companies’ performances through GSCM. Although, this is the first stage exploratory research from relevant literature within this area, the paper presents the proposed conceptual framework and the research hypothesis to further expand upon in the future research studies.Keyword:Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM), Green Logistics, Food Retail, Waste Managemen
