    Predicate Classification Using Optimal Transport Loss in Scene Graph Generation

    In scene graph generation (SGG), learning with cross-entropy loss yields biased predictions owing to the severe imbalance in the distribution of the relationship labels in the dataset. Thus, this study proposes a method to generate scene graphs using optimal transport as a measure for comparing two probability distributions. We apply learning with the optimal transport loss, which reflects the similarity between the labels in terms of transportation cost, for predicate classification in SGG. In the proposed approach, the transportation cost of the optimal transport is defined using the similarity of words obtained from the pre-trained model. The experimental evaluation of the effectiveness demonstrates that the proposed method outperforms existing methods in terms of mean Recall@50 and 100. Furthermore, it improves the recall of the relationship labels scarcely available in the dataset

    Diel feeding rhythms, daily ration, and seasonal changes thereof in marbled flounder Pseudopleuronectes yokohamae

    This paper aims to assess the diel feeding pattern and seasonal variation in the daily ration of immature and mature marbled flounder (Pseudopleuronectes yokohamae ). A day‐night collection by bottom trawls was conducted in Sendai Bay in July 2014. Marbled flounder (131–493 mm total length; Number of collected individuals = 1830, Number of analyzed individuals = 497) fed mainly on polychaetes during the day. At night, stomach content weight decreased with time, but the weight and proportion of bivalve siphons were consistently higher at night than during the day, suggesting nocturnal feeding by the flounder on bivalve siphons. Daily ration was greater in females (<300 mm: 2.6%–3.2% body weight; ≥300 mm: 1.5%–2.5%) than in males (<300 mm: 1.7%–2.6%; ≥300 mm: 1.3%–1.9%). Seasonal surveys were also carried out, and the greater ration in females than males were consistent throughout the year, suggesting that greater growth in females than males attributes to the greater food intake of females. The ration was highest in June, especially for large individuals, although water temperature in June was lower than that in September.     Development of miniaturized pick-up amplification circuit for plasma particle detectors on board satellites

    Plasma particles and waves are important observation targets in space plasmas for understanding the mechanisms of energy and momentum transfer between waves and particles because space plasmas are essentially collisionless. Multi-point observations are crucial for understanding the spatial–temporal variations of space plasmas. To realize such observations by a large number of satellites, onboard instruments should be miniaturized to reduce their required resources. This paper proposes a small amplifier for plasma particle detectors onboard satellites. This charge-sensitive amplifier converts an electron cloud emitted from the detector, for example a microchannel plate, to a current pulse that can be handled by a time-of-flight measurement circuit to determine the particle velocity and thus mass. The amplifier is realized using application-specific integrated circuit technology to minimize size. Its dimensions are estimated to be 2120,mathrmmumtimes1680,mathrmmum2120, mathrm{ mu m }times 1680, mathrm{ mu m}, which are much smaller than those of a conventional amplifier. The response time of the proposed amplifier has a variation of less than 1.2,mathrmns1.2, mathrm{ ns} over the range of expected input levels. The amplifier can handle up to 2times1072times {10}^{7} signals per second and has a sensitivity of 1.5,mathrmV/mathrmpC1.5, mathrm{ V}/mathrm{pC} at 20,mathrmcircrmC20, mathrm{^circ{rm C} }

    Vasospastic angina resulting in sudden cardiac arrest, initially misdiagnosed as a psychiatric disorder

    AbstractA 51-year-old-woman with a history of ablation therapy due to Wolff–Parkinson–White syndrome had been suffering from ambiguous chest pain, prompting investigation by several cardiologists. After being dissatisfied with a psychiatric disorder diagnosis, she was admitted to our hospital for further investigation. She lost her consciousness due to a sudden cardiac arrest shortly after admission. A provocation test indicated vasospastic angina associated with a diffuse spastic pattern of her left anterior descending artery.<Learning objective: This case demonstrates that implantation of a cardioverter defibrillator may be avoided if the angiographic pattern of the vasospasm is recognized, the condition is correctly diagnosed, and appropriate medications are prescribed.

    TNF-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) is a potential chemotherapeutic agent with high selectivity for malignant cells. Many tumors, however, are resistant to TRAIL cytotoxicity. Although cellular inhibitors of apoptosis 1 and 2 (cIAP-1 and -2) are often over-expressed in cancers, their role in mediating TRAIL resistance remains unclear. Here, we demonstrate that TRAIL-induced apoptosis of liver cancer cells is associated with degradation of cIAP-1 and X-linked IAP (XIAP), whereas cIAP-2 remains unchanged. Lower concentrations of TRAIL causing minimal or no apoptosis do not alter cIAP-1 or XIAP protein levels. Silencing of cIAP-1 expression, but not XIAP or cIAP-2, as well as co-treatment with a second mitochondrial activator of caspases (SMAC) mimetic (which results in rapid depletion of cIAP-1), sensitizes the cells to TRAIL. TRAIL-induced loss of cIAP-1 and XIAP requires caspase activity. In particular, caspase 8 knockdown stabilizes both cIAP-1 and XIAP, while caspase 9 knockdown prevents XIAP, but not cIAP-1 degradation. Cell-free experiments confirmed cIAP-1 is a substrate for caspase 8, with likely multiple cleavage sites. These results suggest that TRAIL-mediated apoptosis proceeds through caspase 8-dependent degradation of cIAP-1. Targeted depletion of cIAP-1 by SMAC mimetics in conjunction with TRAIL may be beneficial for the treatment of human hepatobiliary malignancies

    Inner Magnetospheric Response to the Interplanetary Magnetic Field By Component:Van Allen Probes and Arase Observations

    We utilise 17 years of combined Van Allen Probes and Arase data to statistically analyse the response of the inner magnetosphere to the orientation of the IMF By component. Past studies have demonstrated that the IMF By component introduces a similarly oriented By component into the magnetosphere. However, these studies have tended to focus on field lines in the magnetotail only reaching as close to Earth as geosynchronous orbit. By exploiting data from these inner magnetospheric spacecraft, we have been able to investigate the response at radial distances of < 7 RE. When subtracting the background magnetic field values, provided by the T01 and IGRF magnetic field models, we find that the IMF By component does affect the configuration of the magnetic field lines in the inner magnetosphere. This control is observed throughout the inner magnetosphere, across both hemispheres, all radial distances, and all MLT sectors. The ratio of IMF By to observed By residual, also known as the "penetration efficiency", is found to be ~0.33. The IMF Bz component is found to increase, or inhibit, this control depending upon its orientation
