[EN] The introduction of active methodologies inside of the teaching is contributing to analyze the learning as a continue formative procedure of the student, neglecting the master classes partially where the lack of motivation by the student can suppose a obstacule to reach the learning results of the students. The current research describes the introduction of active methodologies in different years in the subject, called “Fluid Mechanics Engineering” that is teaching in the Escuela Politècnica Superior of Alcoi. The contribution specially shows the alphanumeric evaluation of a transversal competence, called “Design and Project”. Energy recovery in wastewater treatment systems through hydraulic micro-machinery. Case study

[EN] The wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) treat the water from domestic and industrial use so that its discharge, once it passes through them, is harmless to the environment. However, large amounts of energy are necessary to carry out this process. Therefore, energy and process optimization are a key issue within these type of plant. One of the possibilities within the WWTPs is the recovery of hydraulic energy. This paper presents alternatives for the recovery of hydraulic energy, through the use of hydraulic micro-machinery such as PATs or hydrostatic pressure wheels. This type of machinery is capable of recovering a part of that energy that until now it was not possible to recover, in a more economical way and assuming an improvement for plants that have the possibility of installing it. In the here described case study, savings of over 4% were achieved with periods of return on investment of less than 5 years.Llácer Iglesias, RM.; Perez Diaz, JM.; Satorre Aznar, JR.; López Jiménez, PA.; Pérez Sánchez, M. Analysis of a wastewater treatment plant using fuzzy goal programming as a management tool: A case study

[EN] Water management is currently a priority in all integrated water cycle sections when a close relation between water and energy is considered. Wastewater treatment plants are high-energy consumers and, therefore, energy reduction is necessary to improve the energy footprint and to also reduce Operating costs. This research presents a combined strategy using linear mathematical programming which, in turn, employs current treatment techniques with dilution through regenerated water at the treatment plant. The strategy used a new model that was adapted to minimise exploitation costs. The strategy also obtained a global solution by considering the uncertainty of the different variables, which are included in the treatment process. This uncertainty was considered by fuzzy goal programming, which allowed water managers to optimise treatment according to energy costs, contaminant loads, and the inlet and outlet concentrations. A mathematical tool was applied to a real case study located in a township in the province of Alicante (Spain). The solution showed a 49.47% reduction in economic cost when comparing the optimised solution to the deterministic solution. This energy reduction was 803 GWh/year and the theoretical reduction of greenhouse emissions was 586.2 tCO(2)/year. (C) 2018 Elsevier Ltd.
