After a preliminary test of ripple shielding by a coil using a prereacted pure Nb_3Sn multifilamentary superconducting wire, a few ripple shielding coils were developed employing a Ti-doped Nb-tube method processed multifilamentary Nb_3Sn superconducting wire with so far highest J_c by the so called W&R method, making it possible to measure the temperature dependence of the resistivity in Nb_Ti_ alloy within the accuracy of 10^ at very high magnetic fields above 20 T in the hybrid magnets in the High Field Laboratory for Superconducting Materials at Tohoku University

Relationship between Tourniquet Pressure and a Cross-Section Area of Superficial Vein of Forearm

This study investigated the appropriate tourniquet pressure (TP) and duration of tourniquet application for venipuncture by calculating the venous cross-section (VCS) area on ultrasonography. Twenty healthy volunteers without cardiovascular risk factors were enrolled in this study. A target vein (either a cephalic or median cubital vein) was selected on ultrasonography. The pneumatic tourniquet was inflated using a rapid cuff inflator system at setting pressure for 120sec. TP strength was varied from 20mmHg to 100mmHg, in 20mmHg increments. The order of TP was randomized. Compari-sons among more than 3 groups were performed by one-way repeated-measures ANOVA and the Bonferroni method. The VCS area increased rapidly until 10sec after tourniquet inflation. The VCS area then increased gradually until 30sec after tourniquet inflation. After that, the VCS area did not increase remarkably. The VCS area increased with TP strength up to 80mmHg, but the VCS area at TP 100mmHg decreased to less than that at TP 40mmHg. Based on these results, we recommend a tourniquet pressure of 60mmHg, and duration of tourniquet application is 30 to 60sec for venipuncture

RNA/DNA hybrid duplexes with identical nearest-neighbor base-pairs have identical stability

    Get PDF
AbstractEnergetic behaviors of eight pairs of RNA/DNA hybrid duplexes with identical nearest neighbors have been investigated by UV melting analysis. In the pairs with identical nearest-neighbor pairs, the melting curve traces at the same strand concentration were very similar. The average difference in stabilization energy of these pairs was 4%, which was about expected within experimental error. These results indicate that the nearest-neighbor model is valid for predicting the stability of RNA/DNA hybrid duplexes as well as RNA/RNA and DNA/DNA duplexes

Metallic Pattern Fabrication in Organic Mott Insulating Crystal by Local X-Ray Irradiation

We have fabricated a metallic structure in an organic Mott insulator κ\kappa-(BEDT-TTF)2_2Cu[N(CN)2_2]Cl. The periodic metallic domains of approximately 90×\times90 μ\mum2^2 obtained by X-ray irradiation through a molybdenum mesh mask are visualized by scanning microregion infrared reflectance spectroscopy technique. No deterioration by irradiation is found in a range of nanometer to micrometer scales. We demonstrate that the present processing method is applicable for the fabrication of molecular electronic devices.Comment: 3 pages, submitted to APE

Verification of the versatility of the in vitro enzymatic reaction giving (+)-cis-12-Oxo-phytodienoic acid

Jasmonic acid (JA) is a plant hormone involved in the defense response against insects and fungi. JA is synthesized from alpha-linolenic acid (LA) by the octadecanoid pathway in plants. 12-oxo-Phytodienoic acid (OPDA) is one of the biosynthetic intermediates in this pathway. The reported stereo selective total synthesis of cis-(+)-OPDA is not very efficient due to the many steps involved in the reaction as well as the use of water sensitive reactions. Therefore, we developed an enzymatic method for the synthesis of OPDA using acetone powder of flax seed and allene oxide cyclase (PpAOC2) from Physcomitrella patens. From this method, natural cis-(+)-OPDA can be synthesized in the high yield of approximately 40%. In this study, we investigated the substrate specificity of the enzymatic synthesis of other OPDA analogs with successions to afford OPDA amino acid conjugates, dinor-OPDA (dn-OPDA), and OPDA monoglyceride, and it was suggested that the biosynthetic pathway of arabidopsides could occur via MGDG
