RECOMAC: a cross-layer cooperative network protocol for wireless ad hoc networks
A novel decentralized cross-layer multi-hop cooperative protocol, namely, Routing Enabled Cooperative Medium Access Control (RECOMAC) is proposed for wireless ad hoc networks. The protocol architecture makes use of cooperative
forwarding methods, in which coded packets are forwarded via opportunistically formed cooperative sets within a region, as RECOMAC spans the physical, medium access control (MAC) and routing layers. Randomized coding is exploited at the physical layer to realize cooperative transmissions, and cooperative forwarding is implemented for routing functionality, which is submerged into the MAC layer, while the overhead for MAC and route set up is minimized. RECOMAC is shown to provide dramatic performance improvements of eight times higher throughput and one tenth of end-to-end delay than that of the conventional architecture in practical wireless mesh networks

Effects of total knee arthroplasty on ankle alignment in patients with varus gonarthrosis : do we sacrifice ankle to the knee?
Total knee arthroplasty is one of the most commonly preferred surgical methods in the treatment of patients with varus gonarthrosis. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the radiological changes observed in the ankles after total knee arthroplasty.
Between May 2012 and June 2013, 80 knees of 78 patients with varus deformity over 10A degrees underwent total knee arthroplasty. For each patient, full-leg standing radiographs were obtained pre- and post-operatively. Mechanical and anatomical axes (HKA and AA), lateral distal femoral angle, medial proximal tibial angle, lateral distal tibial angle (LDTA), ankle joint line orientation angle (AJOA), tibial plafond talus angle (PTA) and talar shift were measured for each patient both pre- and post-operatively.
Pre-operatively, the mean HKA was 16.6A degrees and the mean AA was 10.41A degrees, both in favour of varus alignment. Post-operatively, the mean HKA decreased to 3.6A degrees and the mean AA to -2.1. The mean LDTA was 87.3A degrees. Before the operation, the mean AJOA was -7.6A degrees, opening to the medial aspect of the ankle, and it was 0.04A degrees after the operation and opening to the lateral aspect (p < 0.05).
Our study reveals the changes occurring in the ankle after acute correction of long-standing varus deformity of the knee using total knee arthroplasty. In cases undergoing knee arthroplasty, effect of the acute change in the alignment of the knee on the ankle should be taken into consideration and the amount of correction should be calculated carefully in order not to damage the alignment of the ankle
Energy distribution control in wireless sensor networks through range optimization
A major objective in wireless sensor networks is to find optimum routing strategies for energy efficient use of nodes. Routing decision and transmission power selection are intrinsically connected since the transmission power of a node is adjusted depending on the location of the next hop. In this paper, we propose a location-based routing framework to control the energy distribution in a network where transmission ranges, hence powers, of nodes are determined based on their locations. We show that the proposed framework is sufficiently general to investigate the minimum-energy and maximum-lifetime routing problems. It is shown that via the location based strategy the network lifetime can be improved by 70% and the total energy consumption can be decreased to three-fourths to one-third of the constant transmission range strategy depending on the propagation medium and the size of the network
The Determination of Dominant Wind Speed to Increase Efficiency of Wind Energy in Manisa Province
Renewable energy resources is seen as an important source with an increasing interest all over the world in covering the energy requirement owing to the fact that the envoronmental problems increase every other day and the fossile energy sources gradually decrease. The wind energy comes on the top of these energy resources whose usage and technology develop most quickl among these renewable energy resources.
In this study, it has been aimed to determine the most dominant direction of the wind to be able to benefit from the wind energy most effectively in Manisa. It is of vital importance to determine it in terms of locating the tribune in the right direction.In Manisa, the measurement of wind speed and direction for a year has been done and 8760 winds’ blowing direction and speed have been determined. These data has been typed in Excel computer program. Making use of this program, these 8760 winds have also been assessed according to how many different directions and for how long duration they have winded. It has also been evaluated that in which direction winds have overwhelmingly blown registering it in Excel medium and a rose wind has been provided indicating the dominant wind direction. As a result of the researches, the dominant wind direction has been found as North-Northeast and East-Southeast. In Manisa, it was arrived as consensus that when the system is being established it should be paid attention that the direction of the dominant winds should be in an open area to be able to utilise productively the Wind Tribunes
Making Use Of The Wind Tribunes With The Little Power In The Requirement Of The Electricity Energy Need
In this study it has been aimed that a little amount of the electricity energy need of Celal Bayar
Universty Golmarmara Vocational high school in the city Manisa will be covered by the wind tribunes
with the little power.
In this study, the electricity energy amounts, which will be produced by the wind tribunes of 2kW,
3kW and 5kW has been kept as aim. To be able to determine the energy amounts from these tribunes,
the wind speed and direction data of 8260 hours for 1 year has been provided from the meteorology
station. These data of 8760 hours for a year has been registered making use of Excel computer
program. The quivalent of these wind speeds of 8760 hours measured at 10 metres height coinciding at
the altitude of 20m and 30m have also been accounted at excell computer program using Hellman‘s
Relation. The theoretical power, net power and electricity energy values of each hour to be produced
from the 2kW, 3kW and 5kW’ wind tribunes for the altitudes of 10m, 20m and 30 metres have been
accounted one by one.
At the end of the study, it has been concluded that the basic needs such as the enlightening and
computer of the Vocational high school can easily be obtained from a wind tribune with little power
Management of autoimmune hemolytic anemia in children and adolescents: A single center experience
Objective: To present and discuss the treatment of autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA). Materials and Methods: The medical records of all patients (n=19) diagnosed in a tertiary hematology center between 1999 and 2010 were retrospectively reviewed.Results: Median age at diagnosis of AIHA was 5 years (range: 4 months-17 years). In all, 13 patients had primary (idiopathic) AIHA, whereas 2 had primary Evans Syndrome (ES), 2 had autoimmune lymphoproliferative syndrome (ALPS)+ES, and 1 had Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome (WAS)+AIHA. Among the 13 primary idiopathic AIHA patients, 9 recovered following a 4-8-week course of prednisolone treatment without relapses, whereas 3 patients required a longer course of prednisolone. One AIHA patient that was very resistant to prednisolone recovered after cyclosporine A was added to the treatment. All patients with primary idiopathic AIHA were in remission for a median of 3 years (range: 4 months-10 years) at the time this manuscript was written. Among the patients with primary ES, 2 had relapses similar to the ALPS patients. Splenectomy was performed in 1 primary ES patient, who at the time this report was written was also in remission. One ALPS patient required the addition of mycophenolate mofetil due to prednisolone resistance. The WAS patient was treatment resistant and died due to septicemia.Conclusions: Primary AIHA in pediatric patients generally has an acute onset and good response to corticosteroids. Primary or secondary ES has a chronic or relapsing course, and treatment may require other immunosuppressive agents in addition to corticosteroids. Complications of splenectomy must not be underestimated in patients with underlying immunodeficiency. AIHA often causes considerable morbidity and mortality in WAS
ATRA mechanically reprograms pancreatic stellate cells to suppress matrix remodelling and inhibit cancer cell invasion
Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a highly aggressive malignancy with a dismal survival rate. Persistent activation of pancreatic stellate cells (PSCs) can perturb the biomechanical homoeostasis of the tumour microenvironment to favour cancer cell invasion. Here we report that ATRA, an active metabolite of vitamin A, restores mechanical quiescence in PSCs via a mechanism involving a retinoic acid receptor beta (RAR-β)-dependent downregulation of actomyosin (MLC-2) contractility. We show that ATRA reduces the ability of PSCs to generate high traction forces and adapt to extracellular mechanical cues (mechanosensing), as well as suppresses force-mediated extracellular matrix remodelling to inhibit local cancer cell invasion in 3D organotypic models. Our findings implicate a RAR-β/MLC-2 pathway in peritumoural stromal remodelling and mechanosensory-driven activation of PSCs, and further suggest that mechanical reprogramming of PSCs with retinoic acid derivatives might be a viable alternative to stromal ablation strategies for the treatment of PDAC
